just when things were going so well...

This album ended up not being as bad as I expected it to be—I even liked a full half of the songs—but why people gathered around this plodding bore is a mystery.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:02 (eight years ago)
i quite liked the ending to the titular track
― nxd, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:02 (eight years ago)
don't get why this placed, ok but far from a highlight on their worst album
― ufo, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:04 (eight years ago)
mourning for all the songs i voted for that won't place atm
― human and working on getting beer (longneck), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:04 (eight years ago)
jesus christ, this sounds like the band suicide reimagined as a lump of uncooked pastry dough
― faust apes (NickB), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:08 (eight years ago)
not one of the two or three pretty-good songs off that album, disappointing development
― Simon H., Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:12 (eight years ago)
yeah i'm not so biased as to not concede that one of the tracks (think it's 'i used to') is decent, and i guess one could be allowed to like 'call the police' as well
― #TeamHailing (imago), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:14 (eight years ago)
And the 2007 poll continues with...

― Simon H., Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:18 (eight years ago)

― nxd, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:19 (eight years ago)
continued lol at Johnny Jewel's refusal to ever release the fucking album
― Simon H., Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:20 (eight years ago)
Justice vs Simian next.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:21 (eight years ago)
haven't seen TP3 yet so uh no spoilers pls
― #TeamHailing (imago), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:21 (eight years ago)
They stand on a stage and sing this song.
"Shadow" is great, especially for Twin Peaks fans, although it does bite a classic Sonic Youth track.
― Moodles, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:21 (eight years ago)
lol xp
― #TeamHailing (imago), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:22 (eight years ago)
the lift from "Wish Fulfillment" is pretty damn brazen though I must say (xxp!)
― Simon H., Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:23 (eight years ago)
i think i voted for this in 2015. the 9 minute 'last dance night of the club edit' which seems to have been scrubbed from existence was fantastic i remember
― ufo, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:23 (eight years ago)
oh that's "last dance of the night club edit" lol
Great this made it.

Oh Baby is one of the songs I listened to the most in 2017, might be the best SONG James Murphy has ever written. Especially the great ending where the drums finally kick into the next gear, and then it only lasts a few seconds, and then he stumbles on. Murphy will never be as important as he was ten-fifteen years ago, but I think he became a better songwriter in his retirement. I'll take something like Yeah! over it any day of the week, but Oh Baby is great in a different way.

Somebody's gotta explain this one to me.

― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:33 (eight years ago)
it's the best song of the year, p simple
― #TeamHailing (imago), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:33 (eight years ago)
2 #1s, woah
― Simon H., Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:34 (eight years ago)
loved the album but "soldier" was my fave jam from it
― Well bissogled trotters (Michael B), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:35 (eight years ago)
this should be a fun listen for the bobbins cru
― Simon H., Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:35 (eight years ago)
yeh i went back to 'ogre' more than i did the album tbh, great song love the ending
― nxd, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:36 (eight years ago)
Second thing to place from my ballot
― No purposes. Sounds. (Sund4r), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:37 (eight years ago)
Voted for the other Dawson nom but yeah this rules
― devvvine, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:37 (eight years ago)
full disclosure: the two #1s were me and tt
kind of expected it to be higher, guess we'll have to wait for the albums poll for that though
after a first half of glimmering and beautiful melody, the second half feels like i'm participating in some ancient pagan ritual as the whole world spins beyond my consciousness. it's too much almost
― #TeamHailing (imago), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:37 (eight years ago)
I would much prefer game show host Richard Dawson (r.i.p.) singing the best of Skinny Puppy to this audio travesty.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:38 (eight years ago)
voted for the album but that was the highlight from it, great track and what a climax
― ufo, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:38 (eight years ago)
Great song. Ogre and Soldier are the twin... erm high points of the album for sure but I gave my vote to the LP.
― Gavin, Leeds, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:38 (eight years ago)
also it's a brexit anthem, done classily: the townsfolk blame an ogre for their troubles and pursue it madly, ritualistically...but it is not there...
― #TeamHailing (imago), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:39 (eight years ago)
Voted for the lp, but could easily have voted for Ogre as well.
― Frederik B, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:40 (eight years ago)
I'd have probably voted for it if I'd had more slots
― Simon H., Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:41 (eight years ago)
Hang on, I'm thinking of Beggar rather than Soldier.

As a k-pop agnostic, I do kind of like this one
― Simon H., Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:45 (eight years ago)
yay, just missed out on my ballot, fav kpop tune of last year behind blackpink
― nxd, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:45 (eight years ago)
Ogre!
― ♫ very clever with maracas.jpg ♫ (Le Bateau Ivre), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:47 (eight years ago)
love dawson's guitar playing first & foremost and there are some glorious turnarounds on ogre
― ogmor, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:47 (eight years ago)
Will admit that I sometimes wish he were (or employed) a better singer. I like the tunes, the playing, the ideas, the feel, though.
― No purposes. Sounds. (Sund4r), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:51 (eight years ago)
love red flavor & had it very high, it's pure excitement and the percussion is fantastic.
― ufo, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:53 (eight years ago)
no idea what's with the 'interviewing fruits' mv concept though.
i don't expect any more kpop to place at this point but 4 tracks is a great showing
― ufo, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:55 (eight years ago)
Ogre was #5 for me. Should be a hit!
― cajunsunday, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:55 (eight years ago)
so tasty!
― morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:56 (eight years ago)
I thought Richard Dawson was unlistenable shite the first time I heard him. The video for "The Vile Stuff" helped me cross that line. Voted for "Soldier", but this is a close second favourite.
― mike t-diva, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:56 (eight years ago)
I would reverse the order of all K-Pop entries so far. "Likey" is clearly the best, "Red Flavor" the worst.
