im angry that dan bejar uses the name "destroyer" tbh
― marcos, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 18:43 (eight years ago)
yay loona, goood track
― nxd, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 18:43 (eight years ago)
that 'girl front' is the best k-pop to place so far imo, i voted for 'new' though
― karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Tuesday, 23 January 2018 18:44 (eight years ago)
Destroyer is a good name.
― billstevejim, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 18:45 (eight years ago)
It made more sense before he shortened it from Destroyer? I Don't Even Know Her!
― EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 18:45 (eight years ago)

― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 18:47 (eight years ago)
oh this is studio right
― nxd, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 18:49 (eight years ago)
Basically.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 18:50 (eight years ago)
yeh i dug this track earlier last year, completely forgot about it!
― nxd, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 18:51 (eight years ago)
my number one
most west coast sounding thing he's done in 10 years
― gr8080, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 18:52 (eight years ago)
Lissvik has really let himself go. I can't believe I turned off L'Rain to listen to that.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 18:53 (eight years ago)
Is the whole L'Rain album in this vein? Because this is astonishing.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 18:54 (eight years ago)
also, as someone recently pointed out on the thread, "atejle" is swedish for "studio", from the same etymology as "atelier"
― gr8080, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 18:54 (eight years ago)
On one hand this is very light and bouncy and "west coast," but on the other hand it sounds like a mid-90s Blur album cut.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 18:54 (eight years ago)
yeh xps
― nxd, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 18:54 (eight years ago)
down with demandand down with the maaaan
― nashwan, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 18:55 (eight years ago)
Tinseltown is one of the good songs on one of the year's most disappointing records.I must protest, dunno where ILM got the idea that there's anything disappointing about that record, it's as good as most Destroyer records, that is, it's not as good as Rubies or Kaputt or Nighthawk, but it's pretty damn good!
47 DUA LIPA ft. MIGUEL "Lost In Your Light" [179 points, 5 votes, 2 first place votes]this otoh I have no idea what the appeal is and there is so much compression on her voice it's hardly human
― niels, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 18:55 (eight years ago)
I should've voted for 'Zephyr' over '50/50' really - the former is as good as his stuff from ten years ago if you prefer his long instrumental meanders.
― nashwan, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 18:57 (eight years ago)
Pretty much all mainstream pop is mastered like that now and TBF Dua Lipa has a good enough voice that she'd probably benefit from a lot more space in her records.

Meant to vote for Atelje but did tracks ballot in a rush and forgot (same for Oktoberklubben although don't imagine that will place).Great track and as mentioned the most Studio thing he's done in years.
― groovypanda, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 19:00 (eight years ago)
i voted for 'zephyr' instead. also voted for oktoberklubben, but i'm guessing i'm the only one
― karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Tuesday, 23 January 2018 19:01 (eight years ago)
The brightness of the production does that Lissvik record no favours at all, particularly the vocals - part of the whole appeal of West Coast was the *haze*, this just feels like its sitting there in the unforgiving bright lights.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 19:03 (eight years ago)
you're an unforgiving bright light
― gr8080, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 19:04 (eight years ago)
I liked the Atelje album from a year or two back, but this is pretty weakkinda want to punch this guy for singing "ring the alarm" :/

― flamenco drop (BradNelson), Tuesday, 23 January 2018 19:09 (eight years ago)
oh I didn't know Atelje had done new stuff. The dubby album he did a while ago was amazing
― Badgers (dog latin), Tuesday, 23 January 2018 19:09 (eight years ago)
This for me too, but I've compensated by listening to it 1000 times in the past two weeks
― hoooyaaargh it's me satan (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 23 January 2018 19:12 (eight years ago)
This sounds like closing credits music for a Julia Roberts movie.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 19:13 (eight years ago)
The outro measures are kinda neat, tho.
ok mr. i voted for jason isbell xp

― flamenco drop (BradNelson), Tuesday, 23 January 2018 19:15 (eight years ago)
actually, further to Matt's question about L'Rain...while the rest is in that vein, it's probably a bit chiller - this one, being longer and climactic, gets a bit more into a swirling-death-disco-jam vibe. but hopefully you'll like the rest just as much
― #TeamHailing (imago), Tuesday, 23 January 2018 19:18 (eight years ago)
I didn't realize Atelje was the guy from Studio. I heard the song through the noms and was getting bad late 90s vibes of stuff like Sublime, Smash Mouth and Jack Johnson from it for some reason.
― MarkoP, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 19:25 (eight years ago)
WTF is Little Big Town? Was gonna ask about the youtube link being missing but looking at them I'm not sure if I want to find out...

Nu country. They seem to be "unofficial uploads" averse re: youtube.

xp I couldn't find Lost in California on youtube. It is on soundcloud though

not enough machismo to sound like those guys. that descending melody after "ring the alarm" is vintage studio vibes
xp to MarkoP
