TS: "Glutes" vs. Bicep
― (the blues version in his Broadway show) (crüt), Tuesday, 23 January 2018 17:12 (eight years ago)
Glutes vs Glue.
(Judging by the list so far Bicep are definitely turning up at some point unless there's been mad vote splitting)
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 17:13 (eight years ago)
I voted for the other Bicep track iirc. Sorry.
― emil.y, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 17:14 (eight years ago)
Way prefer Bicep to 'Glutes', though, if we're doing anatomical music comparisons. 'Glutes' is nice but it doesn't do anything to make itself stand out to me.
― emil.y, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 17:15 (eight years ago)
I ended voting for the other nominated destroyer track. This one very good too though. I think the album is great, though not up there with his best.
― silverfish, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 17:16 (eight years ago)
Feel like I need to do the obligatory *yawn* at Destroyer, but tbh I can't even be arsed to do that. ILM gonna ILM.
― emil.y, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 17:16 (eight years ago)
Ken Destroyer sure loves the 1980s!
― #TeamHailing (imago), Tuesday, 23 January 2018 17:17 (eight years ago)
ILM gonna ILM.
I came sooooo close to prefacing the post with that, but deleted it at the last moment. Thankful 4 U.

"truth" is a fantastic piece of music
― marcos, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 17:18 (eight years ago)
glutes didn't really do a lot for me, but patrick baumel totally reminded me that i never did read that other jerome k jerome book
― faust apes (NickB), Tuesday, 23 January 2018 17:19 (eight years ago)
i love destroyer but nothing from him this year came close to making my ballots

wow 2 number ones, i should probably listen to this one
― hoooyaaargh it's me satan (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 23 January 2018 17:21 (eight years ago)
this was an ok miguel track but didn't really strike me as anything special
― ufo, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 17:21 (eight years ago)
I voted for it (but I'm not one of the number ones). It's grebt.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 17:22 (eight years ago)
my no. 1
― flamenco drop (BradNelson), Tuesday, 23 January 2018 17:22 (eight years ago)
It's basically half the tracks from the first Miguel album mashed into one new song.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 17:23 (eight years ago)
I loved Lost In Your Light so much when I first heard it that both artists' subsequent albums felt like a letdown, then promptly forgot to vote for it.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 17:23 (eight years ago)
Destroyer live last year made me appreciate the album a lot more. Love the track.
― call me by your name..or Finn (fionnland), Tuesday, 23 January 2018 17:28 (eight years ago)
I was the other number one vote for Lost In Your Light. There were a lot of really great song and video combinations in 2017, but this one was the most perfect. As Brad said on the Dua Lipa thread, "it totally embodies what it's like to listen to the song". Their voices blend together so beautifully. My favourite song of the year by quite a long way. It should have been as big as New Rules (which I'm sure is coming later).
― kitchen person, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 17:30 (eight years ago)
destroyer video should be a zine imo

At the risk of sounding like a scold, y'all know embedding youtubes in these threads is a no-no.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 17:39 (eight years ago)
Voted for the other one and the album but this is great. Big take from the run down so far is I need to start watching music videos again

record collection rock
I suspect if I'd heard Glutes out I'd feel differently about it. The way I feel about Vertigo after hearing Michael Mayer drop it at a festival a few years ago. Nothing else by Patrice Baumel has ever stuck with me like that, his tracks are custom made to precision to blow the roof off

Here 4 it

Every generation gets their own Lenny Kravitz.
― EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 17:45 (eight years ago)
wasn't Childish Gambino a punchline a few years ago?
― #TeamHailing (imago), Tuesday, 23 January 2018 17:46 (eight years ago)
he is so much better at everything else than he is at music
― hoooyaaargh it's me satan (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 23 January 2018 17:46 (eight years ago)
xp it helps that he stopped rapping
I'm definitely a champion of any contempo r&b that pulls inspiration from Sly Stone.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 17:46 (eight years ago)
wasn't this 2016, i know year of impact but im surprised that itd be that way for enough people to make it now if it didn't last year
― ufo, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 17:47 (eight years ago)
that's good for you johnny feves
― flamenco drop (BradNelson), Tuesday, 23 January 2018 17:47 (eight years ago)
I kinda like this (was it really not nominated last year?).
― nashwan, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 17:48 (eight years ago)
I got a couple votes in last year's poll (didn't place), but it charted in August 2017. xps
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 17:48 (eight years ago)
connan mockasin "caramel" is a better tune and i don't really care about childish gambino but this is still a pretty good tune imo!
― marcos, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 17:48 (eight years ago)
also just remembered the scene in Atlanta where that GC record cover is in shot (on the rich white ally dude's shelf) ha
― nashwan, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 17:49 (eight years ago)
Redbone got a lot of spins this year in Cincinnaaaatiiii :P
(xps)

also it was pretty good as used in "get out"
― marcos, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 17:49 (eight years ago)
the thing is, "I'd Rather Be With You" and Isaac Hayes' "The Look of Love" (or even Jay-Z's "Can I Live") haven't been scrubbed from existence, so i can just listen to those songs instead of Glover's middling imitation
― hoooyaaargh it's me satan (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 23 January 2018 17:50 (eight years ago)
;_;
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 17:51 (eight years ago)
plus, those songs have singers that can actually sing
― hoooyaaargh it's me satan (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 23 January 2018 17:51 (eight years ago)
(btw, this fell in the unranked portion of my ballot, so my stanning here isn't really back up with force)
I will say that this is the first time a Gambino album was front to back corny af
