So Culture II is 105 minutes long...
― josh az (2011nostalgia), Friday, 26 January 2018 05:40 (six years ago) link
not long enough
― lag∞n, Friday, 26 January 2018 05:41 (six years ago) link
oh shit, it's out! And it's mahoosive
― Badgers (dog latin), Friday, 26 January 2018 09:20 (six years ago) link
wow new album already ? I had no idea !that might deserve a new thread, no ?

when "t-shirt" crosses the 57 million youtube view rubicon i will consider myself defeated

New album is very long, yes, but also surprisingly good in a low key way.
― human and working on getting beer (longneck), Friday, 26 January 2018 09:51 (six years ago) link
"surprisingly" ?
― AlXTC from Paris, Friday, 26 January 2018 10:11 (six years ago) link
who on earth wants 105 minutes from these dudes?! give us your best 40 and call it good.
― alpine static, Friday, 26 January 2018 10:23 (six years ago) link
Surprisingly as in - I wasn’t blown away by Supastars, the vibe is pretty samey all the way through, but I found myself loving it nonetheless.
― human and working on getting beer (longneck), Friday, 26 January 2018 10:31 (six years ago) link
ah ok. I will give it a try later on today but I really like "stir fry" so far.
― AlXTC from Paris, Friday, 26 January 2018 10:33 (six years ago) link
Bit daunted by a double-length. I really loved Culture but rarely listened all the way through. That said, Culture II so far is really really catchy and immediate so maybe?
― Badgers (dog latin), Friday, 26 January 2018 10:54 (six years ago) link
It’s a vibe.
― human and working on getting beer (longneck), Friday, 26 January 2018 11:00 (six years ago) link
lmao holy shit at the length. I assume they'll trim it down for a physical release (if they bother with one).
― Simon H., Friday, 26 January 2018 11:37 (six years ago) link
I like the panache of releasing such a mammoth !that said, it's only the equivalent of a double CD album.
― AlXTC from Paris, Friday, 26 January 2018 11:47 (six years ago) link
There's way too many songs on it produced by Quavo, lol. But in hindsight, it seems like the inevitable bloated follow-up to a lean masterpiece, and then it might as well be as bloated as can be. Enough good stuff on it to be worthwhile, but it's no Without Warning.
― Frederik B, Friday, 26 January 2018 12:15 (six years ago) link
Culture is "lean" only by comparison lol, it's an hour long!
― Simon H., Friday, 26 January 2018 12:52 (six years ago) link
can't get into this one today . gonna give it another try over the weekend
― (•̪●) (carne asada), Friday, 26 January 2018 15:45 (six years ago) link
wow "stir fry" is horrible
― flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 26 January 2018 15:49 (six years ago) link
a trend I really don't like is artists overloading their albums to goose streaming numbers. More tracks = more streams = better chart position, but worse listening experience
― hoooyaaargh it's me satan (voodoo chili), Friday, 26 January 2018 16:00 (six years ago) link
I mean, I guess they realize that people are just gonna cherrypick the tracks they like, so why not improve your chances at a surprise hit by releasing everything you've ever recorded
― hoooyaaargh it's me satan (voodoo chili), Friday, 26 January 2018 16:01 (six years ago) link
heard a rumour that nobody forces you to listen to it all in one go
― palace of swears reversed (Noodle Vague), Friday, 26 January 2018 16:01 (six years ago) link
Are they really saying "G.I. Jew" on "Autopilot"?
― somebody toucha my fgti (Whiney G. Weingarten), Friday, 26 January 2018 16:08 (six years ago) link
I remember that one from being a kid in Florida in the Eighties iirc
― somebody toucha my fgti (Whiney G. Weingarten), Friday, 26 January 2018 16:10 (six years ago) link
looking at the tracklists for culture and culture 2 the songs are pretty long lots of 4:30s and 5:00s
― lag∞n, Friday, 26 January 2018 16:15 (six years ago) link
ive listened to culture all the way through a lot of times and just learned itt that its an hour long always kind thought of it as short lol
― lag∞n, Friday, 26 January 2018 16:17 (six years ago) link
yeah same
― palace of swears reversed (Noodle Vague), Friday, 26 January 2018 16:18 (six years ago) link
anyway a long album is cool with me more tunes man
― lag∞n, Friday, 26 January 2018 16:18 (six years ago) link
unless this album is exceptional (and who knows, maybe it is but I haven't scratched the surface yet), the length isn't going to do them many favours I think. Sure it's not the first double-length hip hop album, but it's not like there's a conceptual reason to do an epic like this
― Badgers (dog latin), Friday, 26 January 2018 16:19 (six years ago) link
Culture seams leaner because it only has 13 tracks and apart from Dj Khaled no, like, intros or skits or stuff like that. What I wrote was meant to be a joke about Without Warning, though ;)
― Frederik B, Friday, 26 January 2018 16:20 (six years ago) link
god i hated that khaled intro the whole album has such a soft nice sound except for the beginning that has this very annoying man yelling extremely aggressively
― lag∞n, Friday, 26 January 2018 16:24 (six years ago) link
yeah i hate it too. always skip it if i can.
― Badgers (dog latin), Friday, 26 January 2018 16:29 (six years ago) link
i hate the term 'fuckboy' too
yup

i guess you can have your own thoughts and opinions but i have no idea how you could disrespect yourself by enduring that production
― flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 26 January 2018 16:43 (six years ago) link
Stir Fry is okay but I find the hook frustratingly unsatisfying, like it's not quite been thought-through enough or like it's not really finished off. Motorsport sounds like the whole of the Culture album at once
― Badgers (dog latin), Friday, 26 January 2018 16:52 (six years ago) link
i really like stir fry but i fully understand why someone wouldn't

the entire conceptual suite will become clear when they release Culture III and it's three hours long
also Brad otm, thought maybe I was being too hasty, but Stir Fry is bad

So far (almost halfway), I enjoy it.The beats and production seem more varied than on Culture.

24 tracks is a bit muchI would have been happy with 17 and an intro

too much jewelry is hilariously maximalist, can't decide whether i love or hate the vocoder at the end, but that's the highlight for me so far.
