talking about the big poll, I wonder what/if any metal will make the 77?
I seem to remember a previous metal poll winner not making the 77 yet lower down albums did.

Will a lack of metal poll being up first hurt chances of enough consensus to make main poll?

I've always thought when it comes to main poll that everyone's already voted for metal so leave it out in main poll.

i voted for 8 (arguably 9) metal albums in the main poll. the one i voted lowest is the only one of those i half-expect to show up though

the electric wizard album wasn't nommed in main poll and they usually showed up in the 77 i think? Converge maybe has the best chance

would be weird if the electric wizard did badly in polls after how the older fans felt it was a return to form after the last few*

oh Chelsea Wolfe will make the 77. Will be very disappointed if it doesn't go top 10 tbh

I haven't campaigned for it here as I just assumed everyone will vote for it but if you haven't heard the Chelsea Wolfe album then please do. It's terrific. I always play it back to back with the Myrkur.

There seems to be much less campaigning going on than past years was everyone just unenthusiastic about metal in 2017?

Can't speak for others but I was enthusiastic! I just suck at campaigning. Still, my favorite metal albums this year that no one else seemed to care about, and actually my favorite metal albums period, were Entheos - Le Zahir which is free/name-your-price on bandcamp, and Anakim - Monuments to Departed Worlds which I didn't nominate because I heard it after the deadline. The former are from Quebec and make atmospheric, *cough* post *cough* black metal which manages to not be boring, the latter are a technical death metal band from UK and the album is just fucking great.

Ex Eye's selft-titled was great too but I don't think it needs campaigning.

Another one I loved this year is Der Weg Einer Freiheit - Finisterre.

tbh I think everything needs campaigning. I think we are wrong to assume everyones heard what you think are the major releases.

I don't even know if everyone who liked Agalloch have even heard Pillorian.

I'll say one thing though - the rolling metal thread last year was really quiet and it felt like the core group of posters on it was small.

oh and dinsdale simon could add that album for you. With (i hope) 90% of ballots still to be cast, there is a very real chance voters will give it a listen and vote for it.

I forgot to mention Cavernlight - As We Cup Our Hands And Drink From The Stream of Our Ache... I don't know if that one was talked about in the rolling thread but it was my favorite doom release this year.

Bummed I didn't nominate some stuff - loved - Resurgency - No Worlds... Nor Gods Beyond , Bufihimat - I , Droid - Terrestrial Mutations, Slow - V - Oceans , Sutrah - Dunes , Madrost - The Essence of Time Matches No Flesh , Toxic Shock - TWENTYLASTCENTURY - but, alas, they weren't listed.

well people requested longer voting times and wanted the year to end so all albums that came out in december got in. And seandalai can only do it before xmas or after big poll.

as it turned out with my mum being in hospital for 2 weeks in december there wouldve been no way i couldve run it and simon wouldve been left on his own

No big deal! Good year for metal - there were a lot of records I really liked a re-visited many times that all made my top 50. I'll rep those missing ones though - esp. the Resurgency.

I dont expect any except maybe Chelsea Wolfe. Anything else would be a surprise. Qotsa might not make it because of Josh kicking that photographer, I dont think ILM is prepared to put music on its own after some horrible behaviour like that. I did vote for it but I did want to put in brackets Josh was a knob after it.

Electric Wizard wasn't even nominated for the big poll.

I suppose Jute Gyte might get in since less votes might be needed and his usual 5 voters amongst us might sneak him in

Has there been any debut albums by bands that have made an impact this year?
Most of the big impact albums I can think of this year are by established acts or related to big bands (Pillorian, avatarium,Au champ des morts)
