To all of the N.E.R.D/Neptunes/Startrak/Anything related to the Neptunes haters, fuck you. You dont know shit about music. You KNOW you havnt even heard all of the Neptunes' songs so you cant judge them. Oh and to that bitch who said Dr. Dre is a good producer, if he's sucha good producer, why did he have to have DJ Quik ghost produce for him on "The Chronic"? Yeah, the Neptunes are the best producers ive ever heard of, every single one of their songs could be a single in a second. All of you Neptunes haters can suck my dick, happy now? You know you wanna... puto..
You fuckers who listen to rock and compare the neps to sum fuckin old rock group or sum shit, fuck you, the neps rnt no fuckin rock group, i thin you just bought the wrong cd

oh and one more thing, Sunday, 25 May 2003 02:31 (twenty-one years ago) link

Precis: Neptunes roxor U R all gay.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 25 May 2003 11:36 (twenty-one years ago) link

you phat.

nathalie (nathalie), Sunday, 25 May 2003 12:18 (twenty-one years ago) link

How exactly do the Neps produce so many tracks? I mean, over the last, say 4 years, how many have they done? They must have some kind of template they work to, maybe diverting for some of the more out-there productions like "Grindin'", but even so, they're phenominally prolific considering the quality of what they produce. They just seemed to have discovered the recipe for pure booty-shakin'.

Nick H, Sunday, 25 May 2003 12:51 (twenty-one years ago) link

i think they spent a lot of time stockpiling beats, loops and hooks prior to the release of the Noreaga and Mystikal stuff a few years back which i think really blew them up. in addition to that, their stuff is so minimal and simple most of the time that its similar to the old SAW production line setup - they're able to churn so much stuff out because so much of it is reliant on the same basic templates

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 25 May 2003 14:10 (twenty-one years ago) link

You KNOW you havnt even heard all of the Neptunes' songs so you cant judge them.

OK, fair enough, but you haven't read every word ever written, so you can't judge anything said in writing.

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Sunday, 25 May 2003 14:22 (twenty-one years ago) link

That's what I thought Stevem, there are obvious definite ways of making a Neps track, but it just struck me looking at the listings above that the sheer volume of tracks they make is astounding and only seems to have increased in the last 18 months or so. Incidentally, this period has coincided with Pharrell's rise to stardom, which makes you think about how the work is distrubuted between him and Chad.

All I know is me a my boy was riding around last night and we spent 20 minutes naming all the neptunes shit and all the shit was tight.
Even if some of them have the same foundation they still flip that bitch every time out. Like that song from common vs. the ll cool J song. Then compare that to Mystikal's "shake ya ass" vs. busta's "what it is right now." There is no doubt when their song comes in the club the dance floor get's crowded and when it comes on in your car- now matter how many time the played it you listen anyway. I counted yesterday and the WIZ FM here in Cincinnati played 6 Neptune produced songs in the hour between 2-3pm on a saturday no less. That's primetime baby.

one year passes...

LSD- Not to change the subject entirely, but can you explain “Light a candle, run laps
around the English Channel, Neptunes’ got a cocker spaniel”?
N- Well, when you light a candle, that’s saluting your dead peoples. Light a Candle.
And then, what’s the English Channel? It’s a big pool of water and it’s overseas. So I’m
trying to say that when I light a candle I’m that strong that I can run laps around the
English Channel. And Neptunes have a cocker spaniel. ‘Cause they homo.
LSD- Oh. All right.
N- Neptunes is homo. You won’t hear another Neptunes track again on Noreaga again in
your life. I didn’t know that they hand was broken. [makes limp-wristed gesture]
LSD- Is this a recent discovery?
N- It’s a recent discovery after the “Oh No” video. After money had the tight choker on
in that video. And we started asking questions, and people from Virginia started telling
us that he’s a straight Flagrino. And he takes it up the ass. I cut him off.
LSD- Even though the beats–
N- Fuck the beats!
I can’t fuck with nobody that Mohammed used to throw off the hill. You know,
Mohammed used to take all the homo niggas in the village, and he’d take ‘em to the top
of the hill and he tricked them. He’d tell ‘em ‘Yo, jump down there’, and when they’d
jump down there, they killed they self. We don’t fuck with homo. I like lesbians,
though. I’ma stand up–I like lesbians and dykes. If you’re lesbian and dyke you’re okay
to me, but if you’re a homo, I don’t even like you.

Yeah, I remember that making the rounds in 03 or 04, N.O.R.E. is like the proto-Beanie Sigel. And then he went and did that shitty "I'm A G" song with Pharrell anyway.

Glancing at this thread, this feels more like a "can you cut 'n' paste" thread.

neptunes is homo?

pc user, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 19:52 (sixteen years ago) link

keeping rappers away from the neptunes in 2007 is a good idea & i dont care if its cuz they hate gay dudes or think theyre inhabited by alien parasites or whatever long as it happens

and what, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 19:53 (sixteen years ago) link

apparently

I know, right?, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 19:53 (sixteen years ago) link

i liked the neps when they stay away from the live instruments and stick with the synths and drum machines, that second edition of "in search of" with the band playing on it was awful..

pc user, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 19:55 (sixteen years ago) link

superthug is still classic material

and what, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 19:59 (sixteen years ago) link

i think the neptunes track on "king" (the one w/common) might be the worst thing i've ever heard from them.

five months pass...

the beat for the new common song is great. the chorus from pharrell is shit though.

mr x, Thursday, 29 May 2008 20:43 (fifteen years ago) link

i don't like it, drums sound cheap.

neptunes' music hasn't really aged well at all. I think they're kind of dud for the most part.

The Brainwasher, Thursday, 29 May 2008 20:44 (fifteen years ago) link

or maybe i just need to do some revisiting of the good neptunes tracks, because everything they've done for the last 2 years or so has lowered my opinion of them (Solange's "I Decidied" is pretty hot tho)

The Brainwasher, Thursday, 29 May 2008 20:47 (fifteen years ago) link

classic when they stick to their "cheap", ice-cold, synthy, programmed bangers. (superthug, drop it like it's hot, milkshake, etc...)

dud when they get the live band on the go and try and fuck around with rock music. that recording of "in search of..." with the live instruments was awful.

jeremy waters, Thursday, 29 May 2008 20:49 (fifteen years ago) link
