Did anyone give these a listen?

I hope you all give the Solstafir, Sannhet and Au Champ des Morts albums a listen

Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Tuesday, 9 January 2018 13:46 (eight years ago)

Also what did you all think of the Electric Wizard album? It seems that those who didn't like the last few loved this one.

Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Tuesday, 9 January 2018 13:47 (eight years ago)

oh and I hope Agalloch fans checked out the excellent Pillorian album. I wonder when the other ex members of Agalloch will get an album out

Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Tuesday, 9 January 2018 13:48 (eight years ago)

the Solstafir record is pretty solid

Simon H., Tuesday, 9 January 2018 13:50 (eight years ago)

Au champ des morts is excellent indeed!

Siegbran, Tuesday, 9 January 2018 14:15 (eight years ago)

Sannhet is great, although I'm not sure if I would call it metal.

ArchCarrier, Tuesday, 9 January 2018 14:32 (eight years ago)

they will always be Gannnet to me

#TeamHailing (imago), Tuesday, 9 January 2018 14:44 (eight years ago)

Sannhet is great, although I'm not sure if I would call it metal.

if not metal at the very least it is Heavy Rock.

beard papa, Wednesday, 10 January 2018 00:49 (eight years ago)

I liked the Sannhet a lot

the man from P.O.R.L.O.C.K. (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 10 January 2018 18:37 (eight years ago)

seandalai how many ballots do we have so far?

Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Thursday, 11 January 2018 16:58 (eight years ago)

On a less false note, I need to also stump for Lich King's insanely fun the Omniclasm, the rare metal album that a) has a non-corny sense of humor and b) still manages to rock the fuck out. Even the sequencing is witty, pairing "Cut the Shit", a rant against scene police and self-serious political bands, with "Our Time to Riot"...a sincere political song about destroying the American government. Also: a song about how awful parenting is ("Preschool Cesspool"), and (along with Kreator) one of the year's two explicitly pro-LGBT thrash songs ("Offense").

Simon H., Thursday, 11 January 2018 18:58 (eight years ago)

I know this hasn't actually been discussed among the pollrunners yet but I'm wondering if it might be wise to extend the voting period for one more week, since the main trax/albums rollout won't actually wrap up until (I believe) February 2nd, and I'm a little concerned there may not leave be lot of spare air for \metal/ while that's going on

Simon H., Friday, 12 January 2018 13:35 (eight years ago)

To be honest? I'd prob move it back to Sunday, to give people the weekend to focus on their metal ballots, but I doubt much more would be needed. That way you benefit from the momentum coming off the albums poll

I think this is the first time that metal poll happens after the big poll...? Usually metal poll acts an okay hype vehicle for like the top 2 or 3 to make it onto the albums poll, but I don't really kniw what the effect will be now that we're reversing the order. Shoukd be interesting...

the man from P.O.R.L.O.C.K. (Drugs A. Money), Friday, 12 January 2018 18:16 (eight years ago)

Yeah this is a first try at doing it in this order AFAIK

Simon H., Friday, 12 January 2018 18:18 (eight years ago)

the longer we open the poll the more people put things off and wait til the last hour to vote

Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Friday, 12 January 2018 18:37 (eight years ago)

and then ask for another 24 hours..

Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Friday, 12 January 2018 18:37 (eight years ago)

we only have 6 ballots so far btw, hoping to see more campaigning for albums to encourage others.

Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Friday, 12 January 2018 20:33 (eight years ago)

I will definitely be voting. Be patient.

I likely won't wait until the last minute either since I am very happy with my Top 60 and placing. I had to get some lists together for earlier deadlines and don't anticipate changing much when I vote here.

For those who are interested, I created a Spotify list of my favorite tracks from my favorite albums of 2017. The metal-to-non-metal ratio is about 4-to-1 so if you put it on random and let 'er rip, it won't all be the devil's music. But most of it is.

I totally forgot to nominate Emyn Muil - Elenion Ancalima but it is total Summoning worship that will be high on my ballot, easily better than the actual new Summoning record.

Délétère - Per Aspera Ad Pestilentiam : excellent Canadian BM, excellent mix of the usual fast/furious and catchy rockin' stuff.

Goatpenis is absolutely kickass. Ungfell - Tôtbringære if you like Peste Noire. Slagmaur if you like Ceremony-era Samael. Colotyphus if you like Drudkh. Contaminated if you'd have liked Entombed to be doomier. Lingua Ignota if you like Diamanda Galas.

Siegbran, Monday, 15 January 2018 00:08 (eight years ago)

Goatpenis

alpine static, Monday, 15 January 2018 09:09 (eight years ago)

Let's make a Goatpenis victory happen, we can do it.

Siegbran, Monday, 15 January 2018 10:33 (eight years ago)

Siegbran, I added Emyn Muil to the list.

Simon H., Monday, 15 January 2018 14:05 (eight years ago)

Merci!

Siegbran, Monday, 15 January 2018 14:36 (eight years ago)

billy woods' album Known Unknowns is fantastic and well worth a listen.

Also the Buddy track Find Me was great: https://youtu.be/NWTNbDkalAQ

Other tracks I am campaigning for:
Blanck Mass - Please
Four Tet - Two Thousand and Seventeen

octobeard, Tuesday, 16 January 2018 07:36 (eight years ago)

^ ^ ^ Goddamnit wrong thread. NO metal in any of that.

octobeard, Tuesday, 16 January 2018 07:37 (eight years ago)

I don't know how much appeal it will have, since I'm still kind of puzzled by it still after all these months, but I think Locust Leaves - A Subtler Kind of Light is worthy of consideration. Manages to incorporate tech-death, black metal, progressive metal and ambient within 35 minutes, featuring Ayloss from Spectral Lore on lead guitar. If that helps.

And if you anyone ever liked the idea of Peste Noire but found them too problematic, then Ungfell - Tôtbringære is for you.

Oh also while I was tinkering with my ballot earlier I noticed The Clearing Path album appears twice, once under the name 'Clearing Path.'

Duplicate removed, thanks!

Simon H., Tuesday, 16 January 2018 21:01 (eight years ago)

Please vote!

Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Friday, 19 January 2018 10:58 (eight years ago)

I feel like a Wyoming voter in this thing. Vote if for no other reason than to stop me from having so much influence!

beard papa, Saturday, 20 January 2018 03:24 (eight years ago)

This is a total false pick but the Sundays & Cybele album Chaos & Systems is totally tremendous J-psych. The last track here, "Paradise Come" brings to mind a more paisley Acid Mothers Temple:

the man from P.O.R.L.O.C.K. (Drugs A. Money), Saturday, 20 January 2018 13:44 (eight years ago)

I thought Imago & TT would have been campaigning/liveblogging albums by now

Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Saturday, 20 January 2018 14:09 (eight years ago)

Soon...

#TeamHailing (imago), Saturday, 20 January 2018 15:59 (eight years ago)

Saints alive, "Yarinareth, Yarinareth, Yarinareth" is such a motherfucker.

There's always one song on every new JG album that's just reaches and grabs me and convinces me that it's best thing guy has ever done, and this time YYY is absolutely the winner

the man from P.O.R.L.O.C.K. (Drugs A. Money), Saturday, 20 January 2018 16:21 (eight years ago)

I VOTED

you can make fun of birthday parties all you want (ultros ultros-ghali), Saturday, 20 January 2018 17:11 (eight years ago)

YYY isn't my favourite track on the album (it's...third?) but the way it dissolves at the end is some insane audio magic

#TeamHailing (imago), Saturday, 20 January 2018 17:19 (eight years ago)

Not voting but just wanted to pop in and thank Siegbran for bringing Lingua Ignota to my attention a little while ago. Loved that record so much I wrote it in for the main poll.

emil.y, Saturday, 20 January 2018 19:56 (eight years ago)

you are allowed to vote for just one album

Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Saturday, 20 January 2018 20:34 (eight years ago)

talking about the big poll, I wonder what/if any metal will make the 77?
I seem to remember a previous metal poll winner not making the 77 yet lower down albums did.

Will a lack of metal poll being up first hurt chances of enough consensus to make main poll?

Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Saturday, 20 January 2018 20:38 (eight years ago)

I've always thought when it comes to main poll that everyone's already voted for metal so leave it out in main poll.

Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Saturday, 20 January 2018 20:39 (eight years ago)

i voted for 8 (arguably 9) metal albums in the main poll. the one i voted lowest is the only one of those i half-expect to show up though

#TeamHailing (imago), Saturday, 20 January 2018 20:39 (eight years ago)

the electric wizard album wasn't nommed in main poll and they usually showed up in the 77 i think? Converge maybe has the best chance

Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Saturday, 20 January 2018 20:46 (eight years ago)

would be weird if the electric wizard did badly in polls after how the older fans felt it was a return to form after the last few*

*the last few were awesome and those fans wrong

Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Saturday, 20 January 2018 20:47 (eight years ago)

oh Chelsea Wolfe will make the 77. Will be very disappointed if it doesn't go top 10 tbh

Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Saturday, 20 January 2018 20:50 (eight years ago)

I haven't campaigned for it here as I just assumed everyone will vote for it but if you haven't heard the Chelsea Wolfe album then please do. It's terrific. I always play it back to back with the Myrkur.

Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Saturday, 20 January 2018 20:51 (eight years ago)

voted for 7 metal albums in the main poll but I don't expect any of them to make the list

Dinsdale, Saturday, 20 January 2018 20:55 (eight years ago)

At least half my big poll is *metal*

the man from P.O.R.L.O.C.K. (Drugs A. Money), Sunday, 21 January 2018 00:13 (eight years ago)

I usually leave out the metal.

Siegbran, Sunday, 21 January 2018 12:33 (eight years ago)
