My Bottom 5 of the year:
1. Ed Sheeran - "Shape of You"2. Taylor Swift - "Look What You Made Me Do"3. Fall Out Boy - "Young and Menace"4. JMSN – Drinkin’5. Kesha - Praying (never posted to the thread, but idgi, sorry)
I actually don't mind "Sign of the Times" or "Malibu."

can’t believe queen reformed this year to make a song about ariana grande’s brother
― monotony, Friday, 5 January 2018 03:12 (six years ago) link
anyway the answer is either “galway girl” or “rockstar”
― monotony, Friday, 5 January 2018 03:15 (six years ago) link
There might be worse songs present, but I can't see Meghan Trainor on a worst list and not vote for whatever she's responsible for.
― Johnny Fever, Friday, 5 January 2018 05:11 (six years ago) link
I immediately voted for Father John Misty because earlier in the year I had to hear the album at work and it really is one of the worst things I've ever heard, but I just watched the Ansel Elgort video at the top of the list and I'm seriously regretting my choice. I urge people to check it out before voting.

Queen? And, more importantly, Crazy World of Arthur Brown?
Eh?

For lyrical content I hope everyone can take the time to appreciate Fellatia Geisha's "Peaches and Ann Coulter" take on intersectional feminism
― mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Friday, 5 January 2018 09:32 (six years ago) link
I have, mainly due to having no radio anymore, not heard or at least not recognised what I was hearing for the vast majority of these. The remainder I have heard have not irked me .
From the titles of the unheard I imagined I would enjoy 'Fellatia Geisha - Gross Bitch' the least, that is until I saw 'U2 – American Soul'. Ugh.

a relief to finally be able to vote sheeran the worst - castle on the hill probably the one I hated the most this year
― niels, Friday, 5 January 2018 19:27 (six years ago) link
Voted U2, significantly bad even for 00s U2.

bunding the ed sheeran songs together means i won’t vote for him. “shape of you” is awful but i like “castle on the hill”― flamenco drop (BradNelson)

lol wow those song titles are either dismally generic or just plain terrible.
going to guess there has been a song called "Rockstar" on the charts every year since that movie came out in 2001.
― AdamVania (Adam Bruneau), Friday, 5 January 2018 20:02 (six years ago) link
voted Jake Paul – I Love You Bro / It’s Everyday Bro cos this anthropomorphic manifestation of a douchebag shamelessly profits from suicide
― AdamVania (Adam Bruneau), Friday, 5 January 2018 20:04 (six years ago) link
a lot of these songs are obvious in their awfulness but the Liam Payne one is the one that makes my blood run cold - such an awful, lifeless, cynical performance by someone who clearly has no place being a popstar
― boxedjoy, Friday, 5 January 2018 20:07 (six years ago) link
again: you're not voting for the body of work, you're voting for the line with your least favorite song included
lol i should read
if it were body of work though this’d be the chainsmokers. maybe it still is

― dyl, Friday, 5 January 2018 23:29 (six years ago) link
i like stargate as producers more than i assume most ppl here do, so i will vote for them because it is truly shameful that the first time they decide to release music under their own name, it's for something so ignorable and featureless
― dyl, Friday, 5 January 2018 23:31 (six years ago) link
xp lol, i kinda thought they were the same person too

― porg and bess (voodoo chili), Sunday, 7 January 2018 14:45 (six years ago) link
I'm voting for Ed Sheeran, because although a case can be made that his songs are subjectively (even objectively) less terrible than some of the other dross listed above, they're inescapable and impact negatively on my life. By comparison, I know I will never be forced to listen to 'Hot Nickel Ball on a Pussy'.

True, the likelihood of hearing the song while sitting in a dentist's chair is a factor too often neglected.

Ok, given the admonishment above about worst song on this list (no lifetime achievement awards), these are pretty horrifying.Love Me Tinder, Prozzakyoung and menace, Fall Out Boywaterfall, stargate
I liked the Chance The Rapper and Cigarettes After Sex tracks. still tempted to dish out a lifetime achievement award.
― campreverb, Thursday, 18 January 2018 00:23 (six years ago) link
This Fall Out Boy song...doesn't seem real. Like, it doesn't seem like a real song someone could have actually made and released and thought was okay. Even some of the egregiously bad ones I kind of "get" what they're going for or they're kind of novel/stunty in a cringeworthy way, but have issued forth from a reality I recognize.

"Body Like A Backroad" came on the other day while I stood in line at a department store, waiting for the cashier to finish helping the guy in front of me, who was trying to return shoes without a receipt. Ruined my entire fucking week.
― bernard snowy, Thursday, 18 January 2018 02:46 (six years ago) link
okay, I'm trying not to fall down a rabbit hole where I listen to all the songs I've never heard before and gripe about how uniformly terrible they are, but... surely Qveen Herby's "Busta Rhymes" deserves some special demerit for thinking this:
Can’t keep me in a cage, no canaryGot a lot I wanna say, a library
... is something that would fly in 20-goddamn-17

― austinb, Thursday, 18 January 2018 03:04 (six years ago) link
Gotta disagree re: "Body Like A Back Road." It's such a fun, catchy bro-country track. Really well-produced too, with all the tasty organ and pedal steel licks careening in and out of the mix. And the "ay! ay! ay!s" keeping it hype, but mixed tastefully low. I feel sorry for anyone who can't enjoy it.
Fuck "Shape of You" tho.
