Konal Doddz (blueski), Thursday, 27 July 2006 08:48 (nineteen years ago)

It's true love.

alext (alext), Thursday, 27 July 2006 08:58 (nineteen years ago)

She ain't nasty, she just don't brook no shit from scummy men. Go sister!

I like the album, but she's going to be a better actress than pop star.

Pete W (peterw), Thursday, 27 July 2006 09:15 (nineteen years ago)

...a comparable reinvention of the musical wheel...

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Thursday, 27 July 2006 09:20 (nineteen years ago)

you're listening to him whY?

yeah - i know, dreadful thing to admit, but was taking the offspring to childcare, which isn't far enough to power up the mp3 player - so easy option.

mark e (mark e), Thursday, 27 July 2006 09:24 (nineteen years ago)

Lilly Allen = good.
-- Dom Passantino (juror...), March 16th, 2006.

SEE ME

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Thursday, 27 July 2006 09:24 (nineteen years ago)

sounds like dom and i had a similar experience. for 2/3 weeks i loved the album, then something clicked and the nastiness/unpleasantness really came home, the video subsequently sealed my opinion.

mark e (mark e), Thursday, 27 July 2006 09:30 (nineteen years ago)

Loved the album for a month and LOVE IT STILL!

can't see the fuss either from the haytaz. the same people never ever mention the background of your thom yorkes or your mike skinners but suddenly it's a *girl* and everyone's got their
knickers in a twist.

and that paris hilton song i've just heard BY THE WAY and let me tell you it stinks. BLOODY AWFUL it is.

pisces (piscesx), Thursday, 27 July 2006 12:24 (nineteen years ago)

the same people never ever mention the background of your thom yorkes or your mike skinners but suddenly it's a *girl* and everyone's got their knickers in a twist.

yes. yes, that's what it is.

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Thursday, 27 July 2006 12:27 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, nobody ever called Mike Skinner out on his accent Pisces, that's a pretty salient observation.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 27 July 2006 12:28 (nineteen years ago)

And, man, if Thom Yorke does one more song about his rough urban upbringing, I'm gonna scream!

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 27 July 2006 12:29 (nineteen years ago)

Does Lily Allen sing about rough urban upbringings? If so I'm glad I missed those; it's kind of hard to imagine.

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Thursday, 27 July 2006 12:34 (nineteen years ago)

Speaking of Skinner:

Ms_smile writes:
"You may or may not know that one of Lily Allen's best friends is the beautiful t4 presenter Miquita Oliver. A couple of yearsago, Miquita was seeing The Streets' Mike Skinner and told Lily she was missing him, as Skinner was performing in Japan. She wasn't aware at the time that Lily had flown out to Tokyo for 24 hours to shag him."

Raw Patrick (Raw Patrick), Thursday, 27 July 2006 19:51 (nineteen years ago)

I hear Lily Allen was best friends with MIA but then Lily slept with Diplo and MIA got all mad but then she found herself getting aroused and they totally did it.

(Note to self: write ILM slash.)

Eppy (Eppy), Friday, 28 July 2006 02:19 (nineteen years ago)

i fucking hate thom yorke and mike skinner even more than lallen.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 28 July 2006 07:08 (nineteen years ago)

You may or may not know that one of Lily Allen's best friends is the beautiful t4 presenter Miquita Oliver

Beautiful?

Sploshette Moxy (Dada), Friday, 28 July 2006 08:49 (nineteen years ago)

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Friday, 28 July 2006 08:50 (nineteen years ago)

She looks healthy, I'll give you that

Sploshette Moxy (Dada), Friday, 28 July 2006 08:50 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, but unfortunately she knows it.

(xpost)

StanM (StanM), Friday, 28 July 2006 09:04 (nineteen years ago)

"considering the amount of prang you'd done you looked amazing on cd ukpopworld"

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Friday, 28 July 2006 09:07 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, but unfortunately she knows it.

Weird. I don't get it at all.

Sploshette Moxy (Dada), Friday, 28 July 2006 09:11 (nineteen years ago)

how would you describe her? 'average-looking T4 presenter'?

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 28 July 2006 09:17 (nineteen years ago)

I'd rather shag Simon.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 28 July 2006 09:46 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, that's exactly how I would descibe her (xpost)

Sploshette Moxy (Dada), Friday, 28 July 2006 09:46 (nineteen years ago)

i think miquita is pretty.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 28 July 2006 10:16 (nineteen years ago)

simon looks like a squashed hamster.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 28 July 2006 10:16 (nineteen years ago)

ESTEBAN BUTTEZ The Unstoppable Troll Machine (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Friday, 28 July 2006 10:17 (nineteen years ago)

i think miquita is pretty

She's not ugly, she's just extremely average looking

Sploshette Moxy (Dada), Friday, 28 July 2006 10:19 (nineteen years ago)

she's no anastasia myskina, that's for sure!

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 28 July 2006 10:23 (nineteen years ago)

she is prettier than lily allen though. what was skinner thinking?

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Friday, 28 July 2006 10:26 (nineteen years ago)

she's no anastasia myskina, that's for sure!

But of course! Anastasia's legs are miles better for a start!

Sploshette Moxy (Dada), Friday, 28 July 2006 10:30 (nineteen years ago)

... and she doesn't flash them anything like as often as Miquita!

Sploshette Moxy (Dada), Friday, 28 July 2006 10:31 (nineteen years ago)

Miquita is cute in a very real sense.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 28 July 2006 10:46 (nineteen years ago)

Well, it's all a matter of personal preference I suppose

Sploshette Moxy (Dada), Friday, 28 July 2006 10:51 (nineteen years ago)

this 'naive' song is a cover of a kooks song, right?

well, anyway, i dont know which version ive heard, but its v reminiscent of a cardigans song, i just cant think which one...

"Myspace hero"?!

Louis Jagger (Haberdager), Sunday, 6 August 2006 12:10 (nineteen years ago)

"The album followed a No. 1 single, 'Smile,' a lilting reggae confection that sounds so sunny on first listen that it is shocking to realize that it is a vengeful goodbye to a contrite cheater."

SHOCKING!

Martin Van Buren (Martin Van Buren), Sunday, 6 August 2006 12:46 (nineteen years ago)

"She is a pretty, petite woman whose trademark outfit — a vintage evening dress accessorized with flashy sneakers, a 60’s updo, heavy eyeliner, door-knocker earrings and gold chains — recalls Gwen Stefani in the way it stylishly synthesizes a dizzying array of influences."

OMG I am DIZZY because of her many different kinds of clothes! Only Gwen Stefani has ever dressed so outrageously!

Martin Van Buren (Martin Van Buren), Sunday, 6 August 2006 12:51 (nineteen years ago)

If only she were a rich girl.

Louis Jagger (Haberdager), Sunday, 6 August 2006 12:52 (nineteen years ago)

Also, thanks for telling me what the president of her record label thinks of her music, Newyorktimes!

Martin Van Buren (Martin Van Buren), Sunday, 6 August 2006 12:57 (nineteen years ago)

REMEMBER BACK IN 1936 WHEN HITLER WAS "VERY NOW"???

Domenico Buttez (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Sunday, 6 August 2006 13:05 (nineteen years ago)

"reggae confection" = Bassett's Liquorice Israelites

Louis Jagger (Haberdager), Sunday, 6 August 2006 13:15 (nineteen years ago)

i had some lily allen album tracks playing last night at a bbq and was asked "what is this" many, many times.

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Sunday, 6 August 2006 14:32 (nineteen years ago)

the day sia michel writes an article for the times that doesn't mention the looks of whoever she's writing about is the day that the world ends.

maura (maura), Sunday, 6 August 2006 23:34 (nineteen years ago)

What exactly are the words Belle and Sebastian doing on this thread?

I think they are misprints for "Belle Stars" (also see below).

my colleague compared her to a "watered-down version of Pauline Black" from the Selecter, which I thought was a bit weird.

Hm interesting! Can I ask how old s/he was? As an outsider in nationality and (partly) time, I definitely get a UK 1979-81 feeling from the four songs I've heard -- "Oh this must be on Stiff Records", if you see what I mean.

The Vintner's Lipogram (OleM), Monday, 7 August 2006 00:22 (nineteen years ago)

vintner, he is 40 this year and is a big music fan but grew uip in the punk/postpunk eras.
