i think 'dud' was harsh; like this is obviously good music, i think my expectations of miguel are just high cuz i know what he's capable of and there didn't seem to be anything in that zone
― flopson, Monday, 11 December 2017 01:36 (eight years ago)
I actually want him to go further down the Latino R&B route
otmx1000
― flopson, Monday, 11 December 2017 01:37 (eight years ago)
I think if his had been his first album after Kaleidoscope Dream this might scan as a major disappointment, but this is about the same step down from Wildheart as Wildheart was from KD.
Big picture the guy has released four consecutive good to exceptional albums and is probably the most consistent R&B albums artist of the 2010s. Small picture this is p clearly his worst album.
― Evan R, Monday, 11 December 2017 02:06 (eight years ago)
the most consistent R&B albums artist of the 2010s
I'd say K Michelle is
― morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 11 December 2017 02:08 (eight years ago)
i would say dawn but R&B is open to interp

point taken about 2010 being a bad time for r&b albums ever coming out but
"an album w/o marquee guests and a clear slam-dunk single"
"'All I Want Is You' is the debut single by American R&B recording artist Miguel released as the lead single from his debut album All I Want Is You (2010). The song features rapper J. Cole and was produced by Salaam Remi."
Cole was coming off a guest spot on Blueprint 3 and an XXL Freshman namecheck, among other signs that he was a "priority artist"
― maura, Monday, 11 December 2017 17:34 (eight years ago)
Cole hadn't had anything resembling a hit at that point, nor had he released an album. He was just an industry bench player; definitely not a draw with a halo effect.
― Evan R, Monday, 11 December 2017 17:39 (eight years ago)
Looking back at the chart history it looks like "All I Want Is You" was performing respectably on the charts around the time the album came out, so I may be relying on faulty memory, but there was something chintzy and rushed about the album's release. It didn't feel at all like the rollout of a star.
Just kind of seemed like in an era of aggressive A&R tinkering and shoehorned Wayne and Ross features the album slipped under the label's radar in some ultimately fortuitous ways.

K Michelle, Fantasia, two albums worth of Kehlani -- I'm cool with any of them.
― morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 12 December 2017 00:17 (eight years ago)
rihanna not doing too bad from that time period either

yikes, low bar with some of these picks
miguel/beyonce solid contenders
― k3vin k., Tuesday, 12 December 2017 01:04 (eight years ago)
which picks?
― morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 12 December 2017 01:04 (eight years ago)
yours mostly lol
i dunno, i really like some of the music K michelle and fantasia have put out but i have a hard time seeing anyone making an enthusiastic case for them as artists of the decade. maybe i'm too out of step with the R&b consensus these days though
― k3vin k., Tuesday, 12 December 2017 01:09 (eight years ago)
who said anything about artists of the decade? I said they were the most consistent R&B artists of the decade in that they've made consistently excellent albums.
― morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 12 December 2017 01:10 (eight years ago)
ah yes my fault, fair enough
― k3vin k., Tuesday, 12 December 2017 01:13 (eight years ago)
at any rate these women ain't getting airplay beyond adult R&B and maybe late night play on regular R&B stations so they deserve any patronage.

A profile, in which the sexual assault allegation is raised.

I believe her; given the circumstances, though, I find it hard to imagine this gaining much traction (unless of course there are more incidents to be unearthed)
― Simon H., Wednesday, 13 December 2017 14:26 (eight years ago)
given what circumstancesalso read all his quotes in that article as Russell Brand's character from Sarah Marshall it's too perfect

i love Miguel but does every single song have to be about how he is about to have sex, i mean i'm glad he's having sex, but
― alpine static, Thursday, 21 December 2017 12:01 (eight years ago)
we're listening to the spotify eoy tracks playlist and a Miguel song came up and it was literally just Sexual Healing

"skywalker" was his biggest hit since "adorn"
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 6 March 2018 20:30 (eight years ago)
it's a great album
― Nourry, Tuesday, 6 March 2018 20:37 (eight years ago)
yeah I hear "Skywalker" on 99 Jamz (thanks, Travis Scott), but #29 in 2018 pop feels like #35 pop in 1981.
― morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 6 March 2018 20:43 (eight years ago)
DC go-go bands are all doing renditions of “Skywalker.”
I like his duet with Lafourcade on that song from Coco too.
― curmudgeon, Tuesday, 6 March 2018 21:20 (eight years ago)
i hear skywalker in public and that hasn't been the case for a miguel single since adorn
― maura, Wednesday, 7 March 2018 00:26 (eight years ago)
yeah skywalker is in daily rotation on my iheart radio-owned terrestrial rap station

#29 in 2018 pop feels like #35 pop in 1981
what does this mean?
― alpine static, Wednesday, 7 March 2018 07:23 (eight years ago)
only that uptempo R&B making the Billboard top 15 was as odd in 1981 as it is in 2018.
― morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 7 March 2018 11:21 (eight years ago)
sky walker isn't really what i want from miguel
pineapple skies and come through and chill are great though. the latter reminds me of voodoo-era d'angelo
― illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 7 March 2018 13:01 (eight years ago)
every time i thought about miguel performing at the oscars i wished he was singing 'caramelo duro.' that is a jam and i hope it gets released as a summer single
― maura, Wednesday, 7 March 2018 13:13 (eight years ago)
OTM. Album's best chorus too.
― morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 7 March 2018 13:20 (eight years ago)
lmfao he has just released his own "it ain't me"
― dyl, Friday, 16 March 2018 14:29 (eight years ago)
saw miguel on monday night and 'caramelo duro' ended his main set, which gives me hope for its summer jam status. also he dropped one of the songs from the just can't get enough polls into 'do you' and it was sublime
he also released a spanish version of 'sky walker'

"come thru and chill" is so good, i consider it miguel canon. they actually play it on the radio too
― J0rdan S., Friday, 15 June 2018 13:55 (seven years ago)
I heard it on the radio today! I had no idea it was that popular.
― billstevejim, Sunday, 24 June 2018 23:27 (seven years ago)
He wandered onto and off the BET Awards stage last night to do short contributions to Meek Mill's new "Stay Woke" song. His voice was great
― curmudgeon, Monday, 25 June 2018 12:47 (seven years ago)
feature on the goldlink song is not bad
― ||||||||, Monday, 25 June 2018 18:58 (seven years ago)
