Funny how those happy trax records have ended up being his most sought after stuff now!

― saer, Monday, 4 December 2017 17:46 (eight years ago)
yes, see also the soul city label! though i imagine part of it is due to the fact that it was pressed in smaller quantities and unlike UR stuff never repressed ...
i love this mix so much

Never heard this Kraftwerk track before, I like it a lot. Assumed anything they were doing this late in their career would be a bit thin but this is good!

so i first heard this track on this comp
https://www.discogs.com/Various-Nuphonic-02/release/129539
when it first came out (all of 18 years ago!)
and i promptly forgot about it until a few days ago when it popped up in itunes shuffle.
man, what a track! moves through broken beat and larry heard styles before settling on a crispy drum loop from which you can trace a neat line to today's lo-fi producers of note

― brimstead, Friday, 5 January 2018 00:50 (eight years ago)
i also have an mp3 of a dub mix of "road trip" that has a wicked "rude movements" type synth solo
― brimstead, Friday, 5 January 2018 00:53 (eight years ago)
yes i have waxed rhapsodic about "flim flam" on here many times
several years ago i posted that "flim flam" was perfect and eternal and better than any given maurizio or basic channel side (still stand by this) but i can't find it
:-(
― the late great, Friday, 5 January 2018 02:10 (eight years ago)
Hell yeah. The guitar riff in "film flam" is like a massive glittering comet or something... I've never heard anything like it... totally classic future disco
― brimstead, Friday, 5 January 2018 23:28 (eight years ago)

Came across this minimal acid gem from late-90s Playhouse for the first time via Nick Hoppner's latest mix for NTS.

LIKEMIND IS THE SHIT
― brimstead, Monday, 22 January 2018 22:30 (eight years ago)
it sure is
btw imo nuron >> fugue
both are the same guy, amazing stuff in the b12 tradition, but for me his tracks "eau rouge" and "electric arc" (also on likemind) just edge out "contrapoint" as his best work
― the late great, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 00:08 (eight years ago)
I'm surprised Philip Sherburne didn't know this stuff already. I guess you can't know it all.
― brotherlovesdub, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 00:27 (eight years ago)
i know it all
at least people tell me i'm a know it all
:)
― the late great, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 00:43 (eight years ago)
Cool, I'll check out the label's other releases and the 'nuron' stuff. It looks like there's a comp that has 'Contrapoint' and other things from that era, which may be a somewhat affordable way to get this stuff.

Whatever happened to Nurmad Jusat?
there's a Malaysian racing car driver with the same name but as to whether it the same person or not, seems unknown

i have that comp. Contrapoint is the best track on there. The pressing is okay, if a little on the quiet side.
― mmmm, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 17:06 (eight years ago)
if you like this kind of music, these comps are pretty great too

― the late great, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 18:24 (eight years ago)
Cool, thanks for sharing. I only know the bigger releases from that era (B12, Black Dog, other big stuff on Warp, so these are a great way to get deeper into this sound).
― Federico Boswarlos, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 20:53 (eight years ago)
Bring It Home is one of my favourite records but whenever I venture any further into Skulls back catalogue never really find much of interest.
until today!

the first two are the two with the best two tracks on! (kissing game, and bring it home). I don't know the third though, will check that out
Bring It Home has become so ubiquitous in recent years, no complaints though, never get bored of it! I love how its so simple and jaunty but also too fast and too slow at the same time and also very seasick, lurching around like a Geordie in the wind
― saer, Friday, 26 January 2018 19:29 (eight years ago)
its like when the seabed gets up out of the sea and turns up at the pub on Sunday morning, pockets full of Garys.
― saer, Friday, 26 January 2018 19:34 (eight years ago)
my favorite track off those reissues is "reconstruction", which also has that seasick twisting vibe
