to think I once saw the archives with my own eyes

i was going to say "hey if anyone manages to find something cool send a link" but i'm not sure links would work?
like, this is a link to Le Noise: does it work for anyone else: http://www.neilyoungarchives.com/#/album?id=A_072&_k=x71iqr
― Karl Malone, Friday, 1 December 2017 19:05 (eight years ago)
nope
― Οὖτις, Friday, 1 December 2017 19:06 (eight years ago)
lol at this thing. there are pop-ups on top of pop-ups
― Karl Malone, Friday, 1 December 2017 19:07 (eight years ago)

on the individual songs there are also "official videos" for songs i didn't know had official videos
what a lunatic
― Universal LULU Nation (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 1 December 2017 19:09 (eight years ago)
I have to say this is DEFINITELY better than Dylan's "let's release a steady stream of affordable 2CD sets with great liner notes" approach that everyone was so sick of
sort of wish neil had never heard of the internet
― tylerw, Friday, 1 December 2017 19:09 (eight years ago)
ok, maybe i should actually read through the tutorial for this, but...what is the structure of this thing? it's chronological, only some of the songs from albums are visible unless you click the folder tabs? and why do some songs have multiple tabs on the same row (left and right side)? i get that the middle tab is for albums and other official releases, but...wtf is going on here
― Karl Malone, Friday, 1 December 2017 19:10 (eight years ago)
forget it karl it's shakeytown
― tylerw, Friday, 1 December 2017 19:12 (eight years ago)
that link started working for me, but then took like 10 minutes and still didn't finish loading.
― sleeve, Friday, 1 December 2017 19:15 (eight years ago)
btw Neil Young in Berlin is on the timeline too so Solo Trans is not the concert on YouTube
Different shows. Berlin is the last TransBand show, filmed by Michael Lindsey-Hogg in late '82 and originally shown on HBO. Solo Trans is an American concert from the next year's Trans TV tour, with was Neil by himself and with the Shocking Pinks on the encore.
Solo Trans is up in bits and pieces on Youtube.

yeah Berlin (which is readily available) is 82. solo trans is 83 w/ shocking pinks, and only popped up in full on youtube briefly a couple years ago. might've been released on VHS though?
― tylerw, Friday, 1 December 2017 19:20 (eight years ago)
also is there going to be (god help us)...an app?
― Universal LULU Nation (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 1 December 2017 19:24 (eight years ago)
that '83 tour is a great Neil time-capsule. At the time fans/critics seemed generally confused at what he was going for but in the context of the height of Reagan-era in the US Neil's p much right in stride with what was going on culturally - synthesizers, 50s nostalgia, a general hokiness and cardboard-thin optimism

so it's basically the blu-ray version of the archives with the next 40something years tacked on (in varying stages of completion).
― tylerw, Friday, 1 December 2017 19:32 (eight years ago)
I should've just rented a U-haul, stolen all those reels, and digitized them myself

it's hard to make a website with yourselfwhen you're old enough to drupaland young enough to html
― Universal LULU Nation (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 1 December 2017 19:59 (eight years ago)
Neil being a champion of all things analog, the server for the archives site is actually a giant abacus.
― Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Friday, 1 December 2017 20:03 (eight years ago)
it will employ over 3 dozen abacus workers, toiling round the clock to keep up with the server demand

flip that neil switch!!!! not bragging just saying my audio quality is 2,877 right now, feels great
I love that the search icon is a keyhole from the game Myst
― Universal LULU Nation (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 1 December 2017 20:05 (eight years ago)
keyhole = search is seriously grade A classic neil
― Karl Malone, Friday, 1 December 2017 20:07 (eight years ago)
woah i got over 3,800 in audio quality then it crashedicarus flew too close to the sun
― Universal LULU Nation (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 1 December 2017 20:13 (eight years ago)
i'm not even gonna bother with this tbh
just gonna wait until neil dies and someone else puts this stuff out in a reasonable way
― marcos, Friday, 1 December 2017 20:15 (eight years ago)
Drawer makes clacky ratchet sound when it opens, but folders don't make whispy shuffle sound as you flip through them.
― Mungolian Jerryset (bendy), Friday, 1 December 2017 20:16 (eight years ago)
neil saw some late 90s "enhanced cd-rom" things and was impressed
― marcos, Friday, 1 December 2017 20:19 (eight years ago)
Needs to integrate winamp visualizer plugins for full psychedelic pill effect.
― Mungolian Jerryset (bendy), Friday, 1 December 2017 20:22 (eight years ago)
it is kinda hilarious how much this resembles his Blu-ray menu crap from the late 90s/early 00s
― Οὖτις, Friday, 1 December 2017 20:27 (eight years ago)
neil: gedda hold of this idea: you'll be able to click on the jpeg, and that'll open up other things you can play with!neil hanger-ons ('the booger boys'): sounds great neil
― Karl Malone, Friday, 1 December 2017 20:30 (eight years ago)
Neil would never use the word jpeg
― Οὖτις, Friday, 1 December 2017 20:32 (eight years ago)
Do you have to "log in" in order to get access? Neil, you shouldn't have to log in to get into the Doghouse

Elliott Roberts kicks open the office door: "GODDAMMIT WHICH ONE OF YOU MOTHERFUCKERS SHOWED NEIL MYST?! THIS ARCHIVE IS NEVER GOING FUCKING MAKE SENSE!"
(joke h/t to trylerw)
― chr1sb3singer, Friday, 1 December 2017 20:35 (eight years ago)
Also please tell me that Neil's management office is a Mad Men/Barney Miller style office bullpen where people smoke and discuss Neil albums that don't eventually get released and there is office intrigue and Elliott Roberts has a big office at the far end of the room and omg this could be a prestige cable drama!

does anything on the search function work?
― tylerw, Friday, 1 December 2017 21:01 (eight years ago)
If you land on the front page, and click the 'back' button in the top left it takes you back to... the page you were on before you went to the Neil Young Archives! In my case: Google, googling Neil Young Archives. This is insanity!
