Been enjoying the DJ Seinfeld album lately. Only one mention of him on the whole of ilx (from a mix or something).

DJ Seinfeld is good.
― Daniel_Rf, Monday, 4 December 2017 10:46 (six years ago) link
dj seinfeld is pretty good ... i have the season 1 and ruff hysteria EPs and like them a lot but didn't feel compelled to pick up the album
i actually think dj ross from friends is a bit better
― the late great, Monday, 4 December 2017 19:22 (six years ago) link
feel like we should have a lo-fi house thread but not sure why
The dj seinfeld album has some good tracks but I really don't get that deliberately shitty production style, always find it borderline obnoxious
― i know kore-eda (or something), Monday, 4 December 2017 20:17 (six years ago) link
i have a couple dozen "lo fi house" records and while i like listening to them, i think a lot of people don't realize (and probably don't care) how terrible these tracks sound on a real system and how difficult that production style makes mixing w/ vinyl
― the late great, Monday, 4 December 2017 20:22 (six years ago) link
Like, one of house music's best features is its functionality and that function is to sound great on the dancefloor. To deliberately make a track sound like shit just seems like hipster fetishism at best
― i know kore-eda (or something), Monday, 4 December 2017 20:22 (six years ago) link
in my experience it takes more effort to make something sound that lo-fi
― boxedjoy, Monday, 4 December 2017 20:36 (six years ago) link
I'd be up for a lo-fi house thread. I hear the lo-fi aspect but to say it sounds "shit", can't agree there (not with the DJ Seinfeld album at least).
Is the Ross from Friends any good?
― Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 4 December 2017 20:48 (six years ago) link
Maybe it does but that's not necessarily a point in its favour xp
― i know kore-eda (or something), Monday, 4 December 2017 20:49 (six years ago) link
yeah that's what I find so strange about it. Why make all that effort to make something so functionally useless and frustratingly unsatisfying?
― boxedjoy, Monday, 4 December 2017 20:50 (six years ago) link
ahoy mates, its another track from record with the Walt Ever track on - not as good as that one but its got a bit of the same motorbike charm.

bah essentialismilx has been through all this before on the hipster house thread surely, but i think maybe certain 'raw' house/tech visions of detroit/chicago led to the extreme lofi these guys are proffering, but yeah these new tracks probably don't have enough BOUNCE/dynamic range to rock hips adequately... these people probably are hipsters that like early industrial music and stuff though..

― i know kore-eda (or something), Monday, 4 December 2017 21:43 (six years ago) link
ha for sure! the stuff i like (such as the No Moon track i posted), goes for a more FACT home listening vibe
― brimstead, Monday, 4 December 2017 21:51 (six years ago) link
we can put a lid on this can of worms if it's good, i didn't mean to track dirt in the temple

That No Moon track isn't bad at all, I also loved stuff like Torn Hawk and Eleventeen Eston a couple of years back but they didn't seem intended for the floor
― i know kore-eda (or something), Monday, 4 December 2017 22:04 (six years ago) link
not at all, eleventeen eston is more like instrumental hall and oates demos or something

Any ideas on either of the records Francesco is playing? The Paris one I think mightn't be easy but the Montevideo one seems like it shouldn'tbe too hard. I don't know what either is and they might be better off on the bobbins of the past thread but one of the moderators said that thread isn't accessible to most people, something to do with TCP/IP whatever that is
― saer, Tuesday, 5 December 2017 06:41 (six years ago) link
I reckon we need a "Can you ID this House record played by a Romanian DJ" thread?

how difficult that production style makes mixing w/ vinyl

I'm curious what you mean exactly?
I'm sure you're right about how it sounds on a system. I wouldn't call myself a fan of the lo-fi house thing but I like the over-saturated, over-compressed textures as a deliberate aesthetic choice. Probably better for headphones.
