Just wanted to mention that Romeo Santos' "Imitadora" (which I already listed upthread) is great in various ways, despite some drawbacks.

SAICOBAB. New project of YoshimiO. Vocals + sitar + frame drum + bass. Whole album is great, but "Bx Ax Bx" is a good a place to start as any.

Justin Adams - Ribbons

It is partly a more abstract take on various world music, which sounds like a frightening description, but I think the music is good nevertheless. Some tracks have Anneli Drecker on them (not someone I am familiar with, although I guess I have been very vaguely aware of the existence of Bel Canto). "Crow Dream" is a standout track (ahem, ulysses).

Electric guitar-oriented.

Was just listening to the accompanying playlist on shuffle and after a couple songs I wasn't too thrilled about, I hit one that finally made me ask "What is this?!" meaning: this is awful. Arcade Fire.

first listen (cursory), this is some cut n'pasty, OPN-like bullshit. 2nd listen, this is nowhere near KOCH levels. Third listen, 'holy shit!' - it's **dope** "af".. ultra-lean and concise, need to hear it again.

It's a fantastic album, one of his best (up there with 'Diversions').

Jungle/dnb died 16, 17 years ago*. Metalheadz, Fabio, Grooverider, Optical & Rush, Doc Scott: I commend them for plowing on, but it's sad really. *Nothing* of note, nothing evolutionary, nothing forward thinking - let alone brash futuristic, a core element of the genre - has come out since 2000 or so.

The only to in some way do justice, and use the breaks and synths of jungle past, is what Gamble does so masterfully. He doesn't do 'nods', but echoes and mutates what was so great about it and incorporates it into a sound palette of now.

I think I like Mnestic Pressure even more than Diversions, it's definitely one of my favorite albums of the year

the Errorsmith album is good except the last track which is garbage but if you can get the chance you absolutely should go see him DJ, I saw him in January and it was INCREDIBLE, just so much energy and looseness and humour

I’m still unsure about many of these not my final list. Almost every artist in there has another song or two which I can gladly replace. I have my own stupid rule of only one song per artist though... I might end changing some of these in the following qeeks.

I do too, actually. At least as far as the rollout goes (highest voted song by the artist is their de facto single appearance), but people would riot.

Especially since I'm guessing the # of nominated tracks and albums goes up every year with the hyperavailability offered by streaming services

I wrote in some other thread the same proposal. 77 songs, no repeating artists and maybe acknowledge the next two most voted songs from artists with more than one song in the real top 77. when the rollout is over post the 'real' top 77 with repeating artists. In 2014 we had like 5 Taylor Swift songs and in 2015 4 CRJ and 3 Grimes songs. This year I think will be a tad more surprising but we'll still get 3 or more Kendrick songs in there.

I see the problem about changing the rollout and I don't really see it happening but you can't deny it would be a bit more interesting. After all the real surprises are always in the lower numbers.

I propose that every year and get shouted down but imo we should take an actual vote or something

I'm in but someone else should do the writeup about the proposal in a poll. I suck at explaining things convincingly, specially in english.

If we get two more posters in who like the idea I could draft it.
