yeah but hasn't she said she's keeping it off streaming services?
― Simon H., Wednesday, 8 November 2017 18:18 (eight years ago)
Oh right, I thought she put her old stuff back up though. Does that not apply to the new album?
― flappy bird, Wednesday, 8 November 2017 18:22 (eight years ago)
school of thought i've heard is she'll go to #1 in week one, see how week two goes and then go back to #1 on week three when she puts it on streaming if it makes sense
― Chocolate-covered gummy bears? Not ruling those lil' guys out. (ulysses), Wednesday, 8 November 2017 18:41 (eight years ago)
in other words, we're dealing with an egomaniac, not an artist
― imago, Wednesday, 8 November 2017 18:51 (eight years ago)
false binary, whatever. she's evil
bc she's gaming billboard? who the fuck cares?
― Mordy, Wednesday, 8 November 2017 18:52 (eight years ago)
I can't defend this cogently but she gives me the vibe of a cult leader

yeah no contest
― flappy bird, Wednesday, 8 November 2017 19:18 (eight years ago)
the reaction to the initial singles has been tepid enough that people will listen to whatever else.
(it's a lot harder to go platinum on streams alone)
― maura, Wednesday, 8 November 2017 19:38 (eight years ago)
an egomaniac, not an artist
interesting distinction

Vox has the first long read of undoubtedly many more to come about why her change of persona isn't working this time around.
― Le Bateau Ivre, Thursday, 9 November 2017 13:18 (eight years ago)
Appears Twitter accounts are getting suspended left, right and centre at the moment for so much as hinting they're going to leak the album.
Not sure what purpose the suspensions serve given that it'll inevitably be all over the internet at some point today/tomorrow for those that want to download it illegally.
― groovypanda, Thursday, 9 November 2017 14:16 (eight years ago)
The real question is, has the Master of Puppets boxed set leaked yet?
― Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 9 November 2017 14:25 (eight years ago)
Vox has the first long read
-> 'tryhard swift'
― j., Thursday, 9 November 2017 14:51 (eight years ago)
it’s also true that to the best of my knowledge, Ed Sheeran and Bruno Mars aren't seeding hints about who their songs are about throughout their liner notes and then sending their fans off on a scavenger hunt.
this is interesting because I seem to remember a certain incident of doing just that with "Don't" and Ellie Goulding
― sick, fucking funny, and well tasty (katherine), Thursday, 9 November 2017 15:35 (eight years ago)
Has Skrillex written a song about his Ellie Goulding breakup?

every time i hear the "baby let THE games BEgin" bridge in "ready for it" i think about fgti's posts about the awkward syllabic contortions in "wildest dreams"

there were bound to be a few songs i really loved on this, the first so far is "delicate"
― ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 9 November 2017 17:40 (eight years ago)
the way she says "sad" really bugs me in "gorgeous"
― you are juror number 144 and we will excuse you (Sufjan Grafton), Thursday, 9 November 2017 17:47 (eight years ago)

oh hell yeah @ "getaway car"
― ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 9 November 2017 17:54 (eight years ago)
i wish the whole album were like this :\
― ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 9 November 2017 17:56 (eight years ago)
^^hm on second listen i think i just admitted that i want to hear a taylor album where she's just singing over bleachers songs
― ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 9 November 2017 19:07 (eight years ago)
gotta be true to yourself
― crüt, Thursday, 9 November 2017 21:14 (eight years ago)
Maybe I came into this with very low expectations but it wasn't as bad as expected. "Look what you made me do" is way more bearable in the context of the album than as a single. And again, many of the "deep cuts" (??) are way better than the singles.
But she really needs to leave this "biggest pop star in the world" rat race she's in and go back to country ASAP. It's become a sort of trap that does not play to her strengths as singer/songwriter.
― cpl593H, Thursday, 9 November 2017 21:21 (eight years ago)
seriously the return to her roots swerve to elder stateswoman cannot come soon enough
― illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 9 November 2017 21:24 (eight years ago)
Yeah, Getaway car is really good. It continues the trend of great swift songs featuring vehicles.
― cpl593H, Thursday, 9 November 2017 21:24 (eight years ago)
sorry to say but even in shitty N Ga country bars they have replaced bands with DJs, karaoke nights, etc.
― AdamVania (Adam Bruneau), Thursday, 9 November 2017 21:46 (eight years ago)
some false advertising: the old taylor is alive, but just on “new year’s day”
― ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 9 November 2017 22:08 (eight years ago)
Yes. It's Long Live part II.
― cpl593H, Thursday, 9 November 2017 22:50 (eight years ago)

I don't know that a reaction away from pop necessarily involves going back to country. There were a lot of styles she was exploring on Red in particular that seemed to really suit her - I think an album of fake rock (basically the space mapped out by "State of Grace" and "Holy Ground") would be a great look for her while still allowing her to "mature" in terms of tone, subject matter etc.
― Tim F, Friday, 10 November 2017 21:16 (eight years ago)
But if she does that, it probably will involve Dave Grohl, and noboby wants that.
