I was really excited for the original gig, and really gutted that they had to cancel, but now I'm not so sure. Partly 'cos it's a Monday and I have stuff to do on Mondays, partly 'cos everyone else who'd come with me is going to see Tenniscoats that night, which I actually have a ticket for already - I think I'd rather see GGD, but part of me thinks I should use the conflict to decide going to evening class is best. Listened to the album again to try and get enthusiastic, but it didn't quite work, not sure why.

Stryder's on the Orme (j.o.n.a), Wednesday, 13 May 2009 19:49 (seventeen years ago)

one year passes...

Listening to Saint Dymphna on Spotify right now...I get it, I get it. It's so eclectic: I can hear these really well-executed touches of Afro-pop, UK garage, new wave, but mainly it reminds me of Black Dice if they actually lived up to James Murphy's description as a 'pop band'.

New album, s'il vous plait?

I'm so excited for this. 3 years seems like a long time between drinks with these Brooklyn bands.

Tim F, Monday, 21 February 2011 21:39 (fifteen years ago)

That one fire really stopped then in their tracks like *forever*.

ka£ka (NickB), Monday, 21 February 2011 21:40 (fifteen years ago)

you guys should seek out Kamakura in the meantime—nice stopgap EP

Damn this thread seems so....different without ilxor (ilxor), Monday, 21 February 2011 21:45 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah I really like Kamakura.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Monday, 21 February 2011 21:50 (fifteen years ago)

Not heard of them, where are they from?

ka£ka (NickB), Monday, 21 February 2011 21:51 (fifteen years ago)

It's the 15 minute single track EP Gang Gang did for ;Latitudes.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Monday, 21 February 2011 21:55 (fifteen years ago)

Interesting.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Monday, 21 February 2011 21:56 (fifteen years ago)

Oh duh, not a band then!

ka£ka (NickB), Monday, 21 February 2011 22:02 (fifteen years ago)

hence my posting it in the GGD thread—and referring to it as an EP :)

New album is great — even richer and fuller than the last one i think. A couple songs, including a disco track, are the poppiest stuff they've ever done

prior, Tuesday, 22 February 2011 04:15 (fifteen years ago)

ordinarily what you just said would scare the shit out of me but after House Jam i'm cool with them doing disco and pop.

Cosmo Vitelli, Tuesday, 22 February 2011 04:26 (fifteen years ago)

whaaaaaat!!!

Damn this thread seems so....different without ilxor (ilxor), Tuesday, 22 February 2011 04:27 (fifteen years ago)

That ReleaseRPM track with Lizzie on it is terrific by the way. Psyched for this.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 22 February 2011 09:45 (fifteen years ago)

i love their poppier stuff

just sayin, Tuesday, 22 February 2011 09:48 (fifteen years ago)

oddo futre wolf ganso kilgallon thome aldair (nakhchivan), Thursday, 24 February 2011 13:38 (fifteen years ago)

Wow, didn't realise it was out so soon. Really excited about this. Does it merit its own thread?

Matt DC, Thursday, 24 February 2011 13:50 (fifteen years ago)

i haven't heard it but, yes, yes it does.

Tim F, Thursday, 24 February 2011 13:52 (fifteen years ago)

so excited

just sayin, Thursday, 24 February 2011 14:06 (fifteen years ago)

someone start a thread!

Damn this thread seems so....different without ilxor (ilxor), Thursday, 24 February 2011 14:39 (fifteen years ago)

this is on my 'most anticipated 2011' shortlist easy

Damn this thread seems so....different without ilxor (ilxor), Thursday, 24 February 2011 14:39 (fifteen years ago)

yeah it merits it's own thread... before it's even leaked. wtf? NO!

it's more interesting/informative to keep threads rolling imho and as someone who's also anticipating this, but feels like ilx has gone to sh!t pretty badly in the last few years I can't condone the retardness (despite being guilty of it myself here now & then...!)

side splitting genital based username (fndgo), Thursday, 24 February 2011 18:46 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah heaven help we start a thread anticipating a record by a band whose last album was one of ILM's top 5 of that year. Of all the things to get weirdly meta about.

Matt DC, Thursday, 24 February 2011 19:23 (fifteen years ago)

it's funny how arbitrary the new-thread-for-new-album process is - both of the new amerykah albums have been anticipated and adored on an old general badu thread dating back to 03, i believe, w/no problems!

lex pretend, Thursday, 24 February 2011 19:27 (fifteen years ago)

have people on this thread heard the new album Eye Contact yet? that's all I want to know...

hapshash jar tempo (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 24 February 2011 23:16 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, as an ilx user since when it was just ILM, I can't see why anyone would have a problem with a thread for an anticipated album.

Only just caught on to this band though, so great stuff on the last album especially Vacuum, but then I've always been an MBV stan.

have people on this thread heard the new album Eye Contact yet? that's all I want to know...

yes. it's really excellent.

lex pretend, Friday, 25 February 2011 10:38 (fifteen years ago)

Really looking forward to new Gang Gang, one of my fave bands for sure.

jimitheexploder, Friday, 25 February 2011 12:36 (fifteen years ago)

Xpost how has this been allowed to happen? How have you heard this?

hapshash jar tempo (Drugs A. Money), Friday, 25 February 2011 12:55 (fifteen years ago)

lex pretend, Friday, 25 February 2011 13:03 (fifteen years ago)

hapshash jar tempo (Drugs A. Money), Friday, 25 February 2011 15:47 (fifteen years ago)

yah maybe you wont have to wait until may why because things leak why because of various reasons

plax (ico), Saturday, 26 February 2011 01:56 (fifteen years ago)

i don't do leaks!

call all destroyer, Saturday, 26 February 2011 02:14 (fifteen years ago)

Damn this thread seems so....different without ilxor (ilxor), Wednesday, 2 March 2011 18:25 (fifteen years ago)

fuck I was almost feeling like apologising for griping but... Lex makes the point fine.

Threads are random enough (entertainingly so) round here without bisecting a perfectly good one with history because "Top 5 on ILX in..."??

That's not a "process" (wait, there's a process?) it's just a weak sauce justification for mindless forking.

but if you're a real lover of requiring the search function to go back in time and aping what 99% of every other forumblog does then... hurrah?

side splitting genital based username (fndgo), Wednesday, 2 March 2011 20:43 (fifteen years ago)

2nd half of this song is OMG-level awesome
