yeah that was kind of uneventful lol

I was certainly hoping for something a little more adventurous since the track is a collaboration with Eno. It's pretty standard stuff. And it could comfortably fit in an intro to a Sigur Ros song circa the parenthesis/brackets (()) album (I mention them as a band who exploited this sound the most in recent times).

I have found that Eno pushed himself a little more, or at least produced more captivating or interesting sounds, when working with Harmonia. I listen to a few of their tracks every so often and the nature and treatment of the tones is so captivating that it's hypnotic. I think even after all these years, some of their tracks sound refreshing, whereas this new track sounds like some stock samples, though I'm not saying they are.

the sound of space, Wednesday, 25 October 2017 18:16 (eight years ago)

I liked that but it needed to be 35min long and through the stereo and with me not at work listening to other people's phone calls.

Weirdly, it's been on Adult Swim Singles' Soundcloud page for two days and has only had 21 plays.

Michael Jones, Wednesday, 25 October 2017 18:23 (eight years ago)

Holy shit, that is something I never expected to happen. Sounds great to me, basically exactly as billed.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 25 October 2017 19:12 (eight years ago)

Though this is as strange a place for that to land as when that Mark Hollis fragment made it onto that TV drama or wherever.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 25 October 2017 19:16 (eight years ago)

wonder if we will actually get a new album next year

global tetrahedron, Wednesday, 25 October 2017 19:18 (eight years ago)

Someone should speed this up 800x and see if it's actually Justin Bieber.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 25 October 2017 19:19 (eight years ago)

thanks Shakey!

Van Horn Street, Wednesday, 25 October 2017 19:50 (eight years ago)

that's an example of 1+1<1, so generic and boring. two of the most interesting musicians working together and creating nothing.

Ich bin kein Berliner (alex in mainhattan), Wednesday, 25 October 2017 20:26 (eight years ago)

I like their nothing

at least it would be over quicker.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 25 October 2017 22:11 (eight years ago)

Maybe coming into it without time for form expectations helps, as I find it to be quite stunning.

BrianEmo, Wednesday, 25 October 2017 22:18 (eight years ago)

yeah it's a beautiful thing to listen to.

Van Horn Street, Wednesday, 25 October 2017 23:10 (eight years ago)

sounded okay on headphones but sounds amazing on sound system at home. love all mbv but they can be a little claustrophobic at times in terms of mixing/mastering, love how spacious this is. would be thrilled if the new record were more 'songy' but with this depth of sound

global tetrahedron, Wednesday, 25 October 2017 23:48 (eight years ago)

this is pretty rad. glad i waited until it was dark and lit some candles for this. oh yeah.

i like how raw it sounds. sounds like a live mix or something. lovely washes of sound. i like hearing the rhythm submerge for minutes at a time and maybe you just get it from the bass or something. wonderful.

AdamVania (Adam Bruneau), Thursday, 26 October 2017 00:06 (eight years ago)

shakey is my hero for today

cosmic brain dildo (Sparkle Motion), Thursday, 26 October 2017 01:13 (eight years ago)

I'm really enjoying it. Pretty much what I was hoping for.

No purposes. Sounds. (Sund4r), Thursday, 26 October 2017 01:52 (eight years ago)

this is good, gets better as it goes oln

k3vin k., Thursday, 26 October 2017 02:12 (eight years ago)

Yeah, quite great.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 26 October 2017 02:15 (eight years ago)

This is great, very much in the vein of Shields' other "ambient" pieces on that 'Offbeat' compilation and for La La La Human Steps - the track "2" from that time is one of my favorites.

the obvious Kevin part starts at 41 secs

Spencer Chow, Thursday, 26 October 2017 04:20 (eight years ago)

thanks for posting that, i had never heard it!

i feel like i'm a level 8/10 mbv fan because i think i have heard everything but there is always more stuff out there that i was clueless about, and also gotta leave 10 free so you have something to work towards

Karl Malone, Thursday, 26 October 2017 04:46 (eight years ago)

this new one sounds better with each listen, too.

the second half is just incredible

Karl Malone, Thursday, 26 October 2017 05:02 (eight years ago)

Yep, this is great. There's so much going on, so many currents flowing in different directions. Spaciousness otm.

Le Bateau Ivre, Thursday, 26 October 2017 07:37 (eight years ago)

sounds like Flying Saucer Attack: Classic or Dud?

am0n, Thursday, 26 October 2017 13:49 (eight years ago)

wow this is lovely

proton, neutron, electron and crouton (bizarro gazzara), Thursday, 26 October 2017 14:20 (eight years ago)

xp. really? spacious is not the term i'd associate with this track. i find it claustrophobic and oppressive, as if a dark cloud would be above me which is just about to disintegrate into pouring rain. it has got a little bit of the godspeed crescendo formula going on where the music is building up all the time which i find really annoying these days. in the end the music builds down again but it does not really help. i very much prefer the tracks from "on land". i guess that is as there are real nature recordings on it and not onyl synthie washes.

Ich bin kein Berliner (alex in mainhattan), Thursday, 26 October 2017 14:55 (eight years ago)

I knew I could count on you to hate this amazing music

sleeve, Thursday, 26 October 2017 15:16 (eight years ago)

i find it claustrophobic and oppressive, as if a dark cloud would be above me which is just about to disintegrate into pouring rain.

Sounds like a rave review!

Karl Malone, Thursday, 26 October 2017 15:36 (eight years ago)

yeah, i mean that sounds right, but at some point the cloud suddenly clears and you are bathed in glorious sunlight, you know?

tylerw, Thursday, 26 October 2017 15:50 (eight years ago)

the part 2/3 in where the accompaniment (presumably eno's?) drops out, and then the sound comes back in - goosebumps. so good. also i feel like a doofus because i don't know how to refer to whatever shields is doing (presumably - also i feel like a doofus because i'm just assuming kevin shields is doing the kevin shieldsy-noise and eno is making the eno-noise) - "the sound"? the guitar? waves of guitar noise? fuck. it's good though.

Karl Malone, Friday, 27 October 2017 00:21 (eight years ago)

^^ yes especially when the pitch starts to bend up and the noise kicks back in

brimstead, Friday, 27 October 2017 00:34 (eight years ago)

maybe that note isn't bending... hard to tell before it gets subsumed back into the wall of noise

brimstead, Friday, 27 October 2017 00:36 (eight years ago)

Any way to download an MP3 of this somewhere?

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Friday, 27 October 2017 06:51 (eight years ago)

Οὖτις’s link above still works

willem, Friday, 27 October 2017 06:53 (eight years ago)

Grabbed it on slsk last night

calstars, Friday, 27 October 2017 14:08 (eight years ago)

Getting Blade Runner vibes off this. The chimes obviously, but also the sweeping bendy notes, CS-80 swapped out for guitar.

Noel Emits, Friday, 27 October 2017 17:55 (eight years ago)

Good new interview with more engaging lies from Kevin about when a new album will come out.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 1 November 2017 15:59 (eight years ago)

Hey Kevin: less talk, more action

calstars, Wednesday, 1 November 2017 16:16 (eight years ago)

Less talk?

imago, Wednesday, 1 November 2017 16:19 (eight years ago)

Good interview with him. I sort of feel the same way he feels about volume. I've seen lots of shows and lots of loud shows and rarely ever wear earplugs, yet I don't think my years at 42 are bad. In fact, I think they're still pretty good, and I've always wondered if that had something to do with how I listen to music versus how loud I listen to music. Though tbh, I don't listen to music at home or in the car, or on headphones, at high volumes.
