fine to like it less, but being critical, treating it like a step back rather than part of a brilliant continuum is kind of annoying, that's all

i like this one slightly less than TPAB, even though lots of people were down on its 'jazziness' at the time i feel like that made it more distinct than much of this record

i love 'loyalty' though, great song

Among mainstream rap albums, I play the 2 Chainz album a lot.

this is very, very much in character and I apologise for it, but um the new Dälek is great

Brockhampton's Saturation II. Very different record, but it scratches the same itch

basically if you ever wished for another proper Lauryn Hill rap album, this new Rapsody is pretty damn flawless imo (a terrible busta verse excepted)

Big Fish Theory is one of the year's most disappointing albums for me. A Vince Staples record sapped of everything I loved about Vince Staples.

I don't think there's much love for J.I.D. on ilx, but he's about as "riyl Kendrick Lamar" as it gets.

Tee Grizzly and Milo have nothing to do with Kendrick but those are both sensational records. And yeah it's almost surreal how good the new 2 Chainz is.

the Milo record annoyed me but it's probably worth a listen

I was really digging the new Devin the dude album last night

the hip hop albums (with singles being a very different animal) that i've liked most thus far this year are from migos, kendrick, quelle chris, sob x rbe, fat joe and remy ma, THEY, Devin, Oddisee, 2 chainz, freddie gibbs, run the jewels, wiley, dj quik, stormzy, big boi, snoop, vince staples, gunplay, a-wax,

also worth trying/need to listen again closer: wifisfuneral, lacrae, vince staples, YoungBoy NBA, Ski Mask the Slump God, wifisfuneral, rich homie quan, 21 savage

endorse many of these forks jawns -- Snoop esp was a nice surprise this year!

also deej really rode for Keydo Foolfunk - Funklyfe 3: Rickjamesshawty and it's definitely something everyone should hear IMO

The album is great yes

Valee's "VTM" is better than a lot of the stuff mentioned so far

didn't mention Playboi Carti because the odds of any given Kendrick fan loving that one are pretty bad. That album is sheer joy though, maybe even a top 10 of the year for me

I mean, the mix doesn't make it easy. Even with headphones it's like listening to an album that's playing in the next room by pressing an empty glass to the wall. If he's got bars I'm not hearing them at all.

Actually I really like the mix.

holy shit that hadn't even occurred to me... was listening on Apple Music and the difference between the Soundcloud mix is night and day. The Apple mix is so thin and muddy and clipped, almost sickly. I assumed it was some kind of extreme, deliberate aesthetic statement.

Think this is a fluke or should I be worried Apple Music does this to other tapes? I use it as my main streaming service for everything these days
