― Brolotov Cocktail (n/h) (M@tt He1ges0n), Saturday, 16 May 2009 19:57 (seventeen years ago)
and yeah matt bush of ghosts was marked at $5, which is probably less than a better record store would have it at? i feel like all the expensive stuff my place has is stuff i'm not interested in but the good stuff i always find in crates under the shelves for cheap
― k3vin k., Saturday, 16 May 2009 19:59 (seventeen years ago)
$5 is a really good deal if it's in good condition IMO...seems more like a $10 record
― Brolotov Cocktail (n/h) (M@tt He1ges0n), Saturday, 16 May 2009 20:00 (seventeen years ago)
yeah actually all five of those were marked at five bucks but there must have been a special or somethin. walked out of there a happy kid
― k3vin k., Saturday, 16 May 2009 20:02 (seventeen years ago)
"i feel like all the expensive stuff my place has is stuff i'm not interested in but the good stuff i always find in crates under the shelves for cheap"

i like the woods single, DDG 12", bitters 12", and beets LP best. i like the blank dogs 12" pretty well, but it aint my favorite one.

african scream contest - good but not great, doesn't quite live up to the promise of the title. I probably have too many of these comps now
― dmr, Friday, 22 May 2009 03:00 (seventeen years ago)
^speaking of which, this just arrived on vinyl, after a long wait. it's great.

i havent heard this one -- is it afro-funk? i think pretzel walrus likes it. sometimes, i cant get past the lame-o covers on those comps, which i know is grade-a retarded.
― 69, Friday, 22 May 2009 16:59 (seventeen years ago)
what bugged me about african scream contest was the misuse of the word "psychedelic". cuz none of it is, really. but it's still pretty good stuff. and the exaustive history lesson/liners are cool too.
― scott seward, Friday, 22 May 2009 17:01 (seventeen years ago)
you know what reissues ive been staring at uncontrollably for the past few weeks? BITCHES BREW and IN A SILENT WAY. i have all the sessions CDs, so i never got them on LP, but they just look SO BEAUTIFUL.
― 69, Friday, 22 May 2009 17:06 (seventeen years ago)
African Scream Contest is definitely not psychedelic, but it is really really good.
― YAWNN 0))) (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Saturday, 23 May 2009 03:31 (seventeen years ago)
was the misuse of the word "psychedelic". cuz none of it is, really.
yeah exactly! but it's still pretty cool. just not as good as Love's a Real Thing or Ghana Soundz
― dmr, Saturday, 23 May 2009 05:09 (seventeen years ago)
shit i totally pwned myself this weekend. won a couple original music LPs at the end of last week, then asked the seller if hed consider changing a couple more (ones with no bids yet) to buy-it-nows. he agreed, but i checked at 9am yesterday, and theyd sold 20min earlier, 10min after becoming buy-it-now. thats what i get for trying to monkey with the system!
oh well. i at least got
FROM THE COPPERBELT (zambian miner songs) LPAFRICAN ACOUSTIC vol 1 (gtr music from tanzania, zambia, and zaire) LP
and also
ONEIDA -- secret wars LP

― 69, Tuesday, 26 May 2009 17:11 (seventeen years ago)
yeah it's cool, like at worst it is very enjoyable 70s rock, at its best (usually the whitten stuff) it's kinda special...
― your porno name is rodd tundgren (M@tt He1ges0n), Tuesday, 26 May 2009 17:13 (seventeen years ago)
it's crazy (sic) how the Rhino Handmade thing of the Crazy Horse stuff sold out immediately .. bummer. they gotta repress that shit
― Plunge Protection Team, Tuesday, 26 May 2009 17:28 (seventeen years ago)
I love that Kathi McDonald "Insane Asylum" record upthread. The title track is the Koko Taylor classic redone by as a duet with Sly Stone. Lots of great session credits: John Cipollina, Ronnie Montrose, Papa John Creach, Pointer Sisters...
I saw her touring with Long John Baldry a bunch in the 80s/90s.

Picked up a bunch of non-indie underground punk and rock thread fodder in Seattle:Worlds Lousy vol 8TyvekThe Rats "intermittent Signals"Factums "The Sistrum"that same Eddy Current Suppression Ring single 69 mentioned above.Pink Reason "Borrowed Time" 7"also got King Sunny Ade's AURA for five bucks. Three tracks a side, 1984, seemed like it would be worth it. I love "Juju Music" and "Synchro Sound" and every other early 80's King Sunny I've heard, come to think of it.
― Trip Maker, Tuesday, 26 May 2009 17:53 (seventeen years ago)
Love that Factums record.
― ian, Tuesday, 26 May 2009 17:54 (seventeen years ago)
There was an Illes record (the Hungarian prog band) record on the wall at this one store, priced at ninety bones. It was in this minimal sleeve, just the name of the band stamped on the front and few notes on the back that looked scrawled by hand. "Dedicated to Angela Davis." Really wanted to hear it but not prepared to drop that kind of cash on a record, even if I'll probably never see it anywhere else.
― Trip Maker, Tuesday, 26 May 2009 18:00 (seventeen years ago)
wow I never knew those African Head Charge LPs were repressed.
the other day I found the Slits untitled early sessions LP on Y records for 4 bucks, been looking for that since the late 80's. also got Martin Rev's 1st (?) solo LP on Lust/Unlust which is great.
