This could easily have fitted on Kaleidoscope Dream and (especially) on Wildheart, it doesn't feel like such a radical left turn for me. Travis Scott should be nowhere near it obviously, but it's otherwise fine.

travis scott sounds good on it i think... it nods at his sound w/o being a direct rip off. my main problem is that i can't credibly buy miguel singing about his haters

It's not the subject matter I have a problem with; it's the intrinsic lameness. He sounds like a colossal doofus

also I he could tone down the boyishness and maybe turn up the grown-man factor a bit. like the song is this close to having a line about how warm coco feels good in his tum tum

lol oh dear. it is not completely awful but it is very... meandering? and yes goofy. sounds like an interlude that shouldn't have been extended to a full-length song.

will not stand for the Sremmlife 2 slander but I agree the rock direction was getting grating. His voice was made for R&B

This single kind of reminds me when Janelle Monae put out Yoga a couple of years ago. It didn't really fit in with what she'd be doing before (musically and quality-wise) and sounded like she wanted to try and desperately get that summer hit. With the Janelle single, it did give her her first solo Billboard entry but thankfully didn't start the campaign for her third album (although I'd just like signs that there will be a third album at this stage). Hopefully Sky Walker isn't anywhere near Miguel's next album. The song in the Snoop clip sounds much more promising.

On All I Want Is You and Kaleidoscope Dream (and even the Mischief tape) he was so hungry for the music he was making, he was just fiending for it. Not he seems so indifferent and disengaged. Not into it at all; feels like he's lost his muse and doesn't even care to replace it

That Late Show tv version of "Skywalker" sounds better than the Miguel by numbers version I have heard on late-night programming on a Baltimore r'n'b/rap station. The radio version isn't terrible, just formulaic mostly.

ugh saw Miguel on the new music list and got excited, pretty bad though

i've come all the way around on "sky walker", i think it's a really fun song. the video sells it well too.
