Should have at least ended that article with a YouTube video of the Seinfeld theme.

yeah i mean at least Stranger Things has the older brother that inexplicably has tapes of The Smiths in 1983 in Indiana

Jerry Seinfeld is coming to Netflix with a new hour-long special. It’s called Jerry Before Seinfeld, and it will feature previously unreleased material, including footage from his childhood and “a library of legal pads with every joke he’s written since 1975.”
Not the thread for it but who the hell is interested in that? "I'm Jerry Seinfeld, I tell jokes for a living and these are the ones from waaay back. Also some home videos."

I feel like something went horribly awry during the "Jerry shows his 'pads" pitch meeting and now.

because the world demands it, joan crawford grades yr top ten of the 60s
Aretha - A, Aretha is automatic A deep into the 80sMiles - A, but the Second Great Quintet is the 60s, it's called "Great" for a reason and Silent is...also great, but like...Miles playing straight jazz is also great, look into itRevolver - no grade, haven't heard it, people say it's great though, I'm sure it's fineJames Brown Live at the Apollo - A. Come on this one's obviousBlonde on Blonde - this album is way too long. BWild is the Wind - AWhite Album - this album is also too long and has "Ob-La-Di." C+A Love Supreme - A+, always even better than I rememberPet Sounds - D, this album sucks so badVelvet Underground & Nico - B+, huge album obviously but can we just exhale & admit "Venus in Furs" is a slog and "Black Angel's Death Song" is like mandatory reading for a class

otm especially during "I am tired" sequence
some cats don't dig Trane, but I love those sheets of sound just want to snuggle up in them and take a nap

I remember reading in the Trouser Press guide about a semi-joke '80s indie act called Proof of Utah who had a winky John Coltrane riff called "I Love Ice Cream" (say it out loud).

plan it

live at birdland is 10x better than love supreme although that album is good
Freewheelin is my favorite. Blonde on Blonde is kind of a mess.

*list
if we're getting all canonical Highway 61 is undeniably the best of Dylan's "electric period" peak, all killer no filler
fave VU for me is (like Tyler) probably Live 1969 tbh

blonde on blonde is my favorite dylan and the white album is my favorite beatles but i love big messy double albums

i am kinda surprised at how conventional the top 10 is
10 years ago it would not have included Nina Simone and that's about the only big difference I can detect

yea Wild is the Wind is the only one that stuck out

61 is so great. best Dylan band easily. the garage junkyard act.
the intro to "Queen Jane Approximately" is magic. also the mandolin on "Desolation Row". the sky is opening up.

agreeing w/d40 a lot today, White Light is peak, debut is a lot of good songs that'd be better with a better drummer
honestly I could grouse about Venus in Furs all day, even when I was a huge fan of Lou & the band I thought it was so basic. "I read a naughty book! here's some stuff I read in the naughty book."
― she carries a torch. two torches, actually (Joan Crawford Loves Chachi), Tuesday, 22 August 2017 22:11 (six years ago) link
Since they were explicitly trying to include albums with great singles, seems odd that Cosmo's Factory isn't on there/marcos otm.
― albvivertine, Tuesday, 22 August 2017 22:12 (six years ago) link
At some point every Velvet album has been my favorite (including VU) except Loaded, so I don't care if the banana album isn't embraced. Every Velvet album has a horrible experiment I never listen to but wouldn't cut.
― the Rain Man of nationalism. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 22 August 2017 22:14 (six years ago) link
I think the fact it came out in 1970 is probably the biggest reason it's not on there. xp

lyrics aside, sonically it's the most arresting/groundbreaking cut on the first album, can't really think of any precedents in rock/pop for that kind of baroque, droning, sinister sort of sound.
