I think if it hadn't all been leaked for like a year it'd feel more fresh and exciting, as it is it's a minor mis-step but I'm sure her 4th album will get her back on track
yeah you may be right but it's still disappointing to me cuz this was supposed to be her ~shit~, you know? i do really like this album but anything less than mindblowing is disappointing really
― k3vin k., Saturday, 9 May 2009 00:47 (seventeen years ago)
Also I think Young Jeezy narrowly edges out Tom Waits and Bob Dylan at the top of my list of people who should never, ever be allowed near autotune. He sounds ridiculous.
― Enormous Epic (Matt DC), Saturday, 9 May 2009 00:48 (seventeen years ago)
"work" and "pucker up" and the ones like that just fall kinda flat to me
"ciara to the stage", "keep dancing" and ESPECIALLY "lover's thing" sound like the best
― triple-hater protection (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 9 May 2009 00:48 (seventeen years ago)
What idiot put this thing together? It's one of the worst sequenced albums I've ever heard, given that it plods and drags through the first half and absolutely FLIES through the second half.
lol i was gonna completely agree w/ u but it's the second half that i can't get with right now
― k3vin k., Saturday, 9 May 2009 00:48 (seventeen years ago)
yeah "echo" is straight up inexcusable and like i said she's soooo great over airy ballads - she should just make a whole album of those imo
and stuff on the leak is so much better - "rattla" and "click flash" for starters
― triple-hater protection (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 9 May 2009 00:49 (seventeen years ago)
xp yeah I know, I was so excited for this project at first and everything about it practically has been disastrous. And now it's going to sell barely 70K copies first week... it's really sad actually, I think if they'd released "High Price" as the first single like they planned on doing then none of this would've happened.
― sex and gambling (The Brainwasher), Saturday, 9 May 2009 00:49 (seventeen years ago)
ESPECIALLY "lover's thing"
knew you'd love this
― k3vin k., Saturday, 9 May 2009 00:49 (seventeen years ago)
"I Don't Remember" is already one of my favorite Polow productions... kind of reminds me of Goldfrapp
― sex and gambling (The Brainwasher), Saturday, 9 May 2009 00:51 (seventeen years ago)
Not including these two, especially Click Flash, is inexcusable.
― Enormous Epic (Matt DC), Saturday, 9 May 2009 00:51 (seventeen years ago)
yeah "Lover's Thing" is nice, but it's kind of a standard L.O.S. beat so I can't get that excited about it... "Keep Dancin' On Me" on the other hand... MASSIVE.
― sex and gambling (The Brainwasher), Saturday, 9 May 2009 00:52 (seventeen years ago)
btw - have los da maestro and terius ever made a song that's not a non-classic? they're like... 9 for 9 or something?
― triple-hater protection (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 9 May 2009 00:52 (seventeen years ago)
er that's not a classic i guess i mean
one of my favorite leaks:

I think if it hadn't all been leaked for like a year it'd feel more fresh and exciting
and
I think if they'd released "High Price" as the first single like they planned on doing then none of this would've happened.
otm.
i think it's a really good album...actually a lot better than i was expecting after the botched campaign. sequencing is pretty perfect, dunno what matt is on about! big insane uptempos ==> slow down ==> club jams ==> abstract close. obv 'echo' and 'i'm on' should be on the album proper but what can one do...
interesting: 'turntables', despite no promotion in its own right whatsoever, is in the UK itunes top 40. looks like leaving cbreezy on it was a good sales tactic :/ and also :(
― lex pretend, Saturday, 9 May 2009 02:05 (seventeen years ago)

"I don't remember" is gorgeous. By very far my fave on this (which otherwise is pretty meh after a few listens). It has a bit of the sweet/melancholia vibe of "why should I be sad" on britney's blackout.

i've been comparing keri's "where did he go" to "why should i be sad" a lot in my mind.
i'm excited to hear this album in more depth, can't really comment yet.
― Surmounter, Tuesday, 12 May 2009 21:24 (seventeen years ago)
we put this on last night, and had to turn it off after the 7th or 8th track and put on the keri album.
the most interesting thing i heard was Work. and i didn't completely mind Like a surgeon.
― Surmounter, Friday, 15 May 2009 13:52 (seventeen years ago)
but yeah my bf and i defffinitely turned off by it. not even the production was really happening for me.

ya, this is good. vocals sound good too.
― Surmounter, Friday, 15 May 2009 14:22 (seventeen years ago)
I love the synth, background vocals and bass on it (especially when it's just instrumental, right at the end). the melody, is nice too.I guess that's the subject of the song that makes it kinda blackout/britney-esque !
― AleXTC, Friday, 15 May 2009 15:11 (seventeen years ago)
odd how different tracks on this album affect people so entirely disparately; there's a lot of "i love it/i hate it" in this thread, but no one wants to chuck the whole album and i don't think there's a consensus top record... though LSM seems to be the least hatable.
― the toxic Internet art of constant callous one upsmanship (forksclovetofu), Friday, 15 May 2009 15:23 (seventeen years ago)
i pretty much love all of it to varying degrees but the nature of how it's leaked means i've already evaluated most of the tracks individually, there isn't a great deal of new-to-me material and i'm more persnickety about how it could be better - like i'm sure i'd love this version of 'work' if i hadn't heard the leaks, the awesome beat is still intact and the breakdowns at the end are amazing, but the solo non-missy version is just so much better. and i've got about another cd's worth of leaks which never made it, and i could easily swap out 'like a surgeon' and 'g is for girl' for 'walk on the wall', 'feeling on my ass' and 'the fit of love'. ('rattla' would have been a good bonus track, it's 'oh' redux but still great.) you know, i think sticking with the three-disc concept could've actually worked!
it's really good to finally hear 'high price', 'i'm on' etc in HQ - like, whoa, these songs have BASS!
― lex pretend, Friday, 15 May 2009 15:38 (seventeen years ago)
actually looking at the original concepts for the triple-disc...you know, this would've totally worked. i would have ADORED an album packaged like this:
GROOVE CITYciara to the stagenever everlover's thingthe fit of lovekeep dancin' on meone favori don't remember
CRUNK TOWNhigh pricefeeling on my assechoroll callg is for girlgo girlrattla
KINGDOM OF DANCElove sex magicturntableswhen ipucker upworkwalk on the walli'm on
middle disc would be the weakest (albeit with the two standout tracks), but there isn't a single song i dislike in this package. re-record chris brown's vocal (ne-yo maybe?), chuck missy off 'work' and then we're talking.
― lex pretend, Friday, 15 May 2009 15:46 (seventeen years ago)

― the toxic Internet art of constant callous one upsmanship (forksclovetofu), Friday, 15 May 2009 17:29 (seventeen years ago)

― k3vin k., Friday, 15 May 2009 19:23 (seventeen years ago)
Don't have much of an opinion on this -- not liking it as much as her other two by quite a bit, but don't dislike it, just think it's a little...I dunno, low-stakes? -- but "Like a Surgeon" could just as easily have been an R. Kelly track, albeit one with an uncomfortable Dead Ringers vibe. Also, if you're going to do a song with a "Weird Al" did, you should at least avoid the "sign a waiver" line. Or maybe that's great. Jury's out.
― dabug, Friday, 15 May 2009 19:37 (seventeen years ago)

Agree with Matt's analysis although I kind of like it when albums pan out this way. Why put all the good stuff up front? Anyway, this record surprised me. I went in hopeful but sceptical, am coming out more of a fan than hitherto.

― sex and gambling (The Brainwasher), Saturday, 16 May 2009 01:51 (seventeen years ago)
eh, the keri album has good songs on it, but completely fails at making me want to listen to it again. I'll probably take "Turnin' Me On" over anything on the Ciara album tho
― yo is it true rev got sbed by a wite kid after a ilx beef?????? (The Reverend), Saturday, 16 May 2009 01:57 (seventeen years ago)
turnin me on is the best out of both but ciara's album is - as you say - more adventurous, also

none of these songs need to be anywhere near this long + the longest song on 'fantasy ride' is 4:33 ("never ever") and most don't even hit 4 mins. maybe i'm nitpicking but it's a big thing for me wrt keri
― oj da hoosman (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 19 May 2009 20:06 (seventeen years ago)

"Guess I just got the" is such a perfect tongue twister of hard and sort "g" sounds.
ajghjhfkd i still can't believe how much they fucked this campaign up, like how much could've gone right for her if they'd stuck with "high price" as the lead single, and "pucker up" was all swag swag swag several years before everything was

― r&b morcilla (lex pretend), Thursday, 7 March 2013 11:05 (thirteen years ago)
as shoulda coulda woulda hit parades go i don't find that one very convincing. didn't they try to launch the album with "High Priced 'Oh' Rewrite" and it totally didn't work? at the moment Ciara's got probably her most buzzed about single in ages and you're still reliving the flops and trying to analyze how it might've gone differently.

"high price" sounds literally nothing like "oh", and they didn't try to do anything with it
they tried to launch it with "go girl", failed, eventually got it off the ground with the very safe "love sex magic"
― r&b morcilla (lex pretend), Thursday, 7 March 2013 16:55 (thirteen years ago)
i heard "high price" on the radio a tiny lil bit, i assumed they made some attempt at making it a hit. it's not running off the "oh" template as obviously as all her little "promise" knockoffs but it's pretty clearly on the same vibe imo.
― some dude, Thursday, 7 March 2013 17:08 (thirteen years ago)
iirc it leaked, was slated as the single, was never made a single (never sent to itunes etc) and then 5 million delays ensued
the entire vibe is so different, "oh" is minimal and restrained and ciara's icy-cold, "high price" is explosive and huge-sounding and OTT and ciara's doing her nut in this mental operatic voice
― r&b morcilla (lex pretend), Thursday, 7 March 2013 17:12 (thirteen years ago)
there is absolutely no sonic similarity btw high price and oh except ludacris
and putting out get girl or whatever the fuck it was called and love sex magic over high price is pure insanity and somebody should be arrested for it
