After watching its video a few minutes ago, I'm embarassed that I didn't champion "Universal Heart-beat" a little more in spring '95. God, that tune was everywhere, wasn't it?

I think she's hot in this video. Someone told me she looks like a boy. I told them to stfu.

Pinefox - not sure of any particular chords but if in standard tuning alot of her stuff sounds like loads of suspended and add nine stuff? Plenty of open strings - limited barre chords - apart from that Total System Failure.

Maybe alt tunings?

lots of cool stuff about growing up in the US hardcore scene in the early 80's, Fer Ark you should check it out.

Of course there is a lot of stuff about J Hatfield as well.

geez, wow. I thought the link was mixed up, but, nope.

I'll probably buy her book, but her writing on her site is pretty something. Not surprising, maybe, and nicely... expansive.

I actually think 'Exile' is one of her best, although I completely understand the dismay at the (over)production. I still listen to it quite often - 'Tourist', 'Sunshine' and 'Jamie' are faves - and have listened to it many more times than 'Made In China'...

it terrified me. overproduction can be a gift, but this was paired with something i wasn't familiar with, with regard to her -- sub-par songwriting? but i do need to give it another chance

I just started following Juliana on twitter today, and I'm already sort of wishing I didn't. She seems to get on just before midnight and rambles for an hour like a 16-yo girl about this and that (tonight it's American Idol). Image shattered.

Not bad on the first couple of listens - lots of acoustic guitar, so certainly peaceful. Not sure that I love it yet though...

I had no idea until a few days ago she was even recording, never mind releasing, an album with Nada Surf's Matthew Caws. The fifteen-year-old in me is feeling a lot of feelings on first impressions.

I forgot how totally cool she was and then I reminded myself by listening to her cover of "Raisans" today -- but I can't remember whether it was her or someone who sounded like her who sang a cover of Yeh Yeh.

I was way into her in the '90s. I'm surprised to discover that I might be even more into her '90s material now than I was back in the day. Only Everything was particularly slept on by me. What an album.

I never went any further than Bed but I think I wanna make the push and catch up on her complete works. Setting myself up for disappointment? Possibly.
