I happen to think that the Page/Plant version of "Gallows Pole" is far superior to the original. Much of Unledded is a little underrated, IMO.

Thomas Inskeep (submeat), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 20:43 (twenty years ago)

Thomas Inskeep OTM...Unledded was really cool, I thought.

A few of the reunions I've seen recent years, Mission of Burma, Pixies, Bauhaus, Gang of Four, Buzzcocks, were all pretty great, actually.

four weeks pass...
Marr and Rourke together at least, with quite a line-up backing them up.

Morrissey & Marr: The Softcock Alliance

The Velvet Overlord (The Velvet Overlord), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 09:32 (twenty years ago)

i thought this was a joke thread. that must be why there is so little response to the lates news.

alex in mainhattan (alex63), Saturday, 17 December 2005 08:56 (twenty years ago)

do they have reissues with bonus tracks that i'll play once and never listen to again ?

retrokid, Saturday, 17 December 2005 16:27 (twenty years ago)

Fuck! Marr & Rourke! Well that's as good as a full reunion, innit?

The Wanderers' Wandering Daughter (noodle vague), Sunday, 18 December 2005 03:57 (twenty years ago)

Damnit why don't I live in England again?

Halloween Spooky Party Hints! (Bimble...), Sunday, 18 December 2005 04:33 (twenty years ago)

three weeks pass...
Today is the day the Smiths reunite threads reunite.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 11:46 (twenty years ago)

two weeks pass...
Marr. Rourke. 'There Is A Light' and 'How Soon Is Now' - it wasn't much, but it was enough to make me blub like a fule.

Zora (Zora), Monday, 30 January 2006 11:42 (twenty years ago)

I'm still wanting to shout Marr's praises from the feckin' rooftops. I hope this feeling never fades.

I would pimp my full review on my blog, but then people would want to poke me in the eye. And they would also mock me for my inaccuracies. No. I will go to bed and cocoon myself in memory.

Zora (Zora), Monday, 30 January 2006 23:53 (twenty years ago)

finally, the chance to see the legendary craig gannon in action

grim-n-gritty hooty reboot (bizarro gazzara), Monday, 22 January 2018 18:50 (eight years ago)

I am sure those shows will be sold-out soon. But this has nothing to do with a reunion. That is more like a string orchestra covering rock songs.

Ich bin kein Berliner (alex in mainhattan), Monday, 22 January 2018 18:54 (eight years ago)

Keep hoping the Panozzo brothers will come to town to perform the songs of Styx with a string quartet

Guayaquil (eephus!), Monday, 22 January 2018 18:57 (eight years ago)

...then again

https://pitchfork.com/news/andy-rourke-denies-involvement-in-classically-smiths-concerts/

Ned Raggett, Monday, 22 January 2018 19:24 (eight years ago)

This is insane:

Bad Production Ltd.’s press release also included a quote attributed to Andy Rourke (“To have been there the first time round and seen it first hand, and to still be such a big fan of The Smiths today, I am both thrilled and excited to be involved in Classically Smiths. I’m really proud of the band’s work, and being able to present those songs again in this particular production format promises to be a real gift for audiences everywhere.”). Rourke’s rep tells Pitchfork: “Any quotes by Andy Rourke regarding this project are 100% fabricated and without approval.”

Ned Raggett, Monday, 22 January 2018 19:26 (eight years ago)

i hear Morrissey's doing some Wagner

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 22 January 2018 20:23 (eight years ago)

Rourke himself has also issued the following statement:

"I am deeply saddened that during the week of the death of my dear friend Dolores O'Riordan, that false statements are made on my behalf. At no time did I give my consent for anyone in connection with this Classically Smiths project to act on my behalf or my name and nothing was ever confirmed, approved or contracted by me or my team."

the pinefox, Monday, 22 January 2018 20:24 (eight years ago)

So is Mike Joyce even involved?

Shocked, I tell you!

StanM, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 15:06 (eight years ago)

I guess you could say that's the end of that. Or, as a classical music fan might say, "Girlfriend in a Coda."

bannonality of evil (Ye Mad Puffin), Tuesday, 23 January 2018 15:09 (eight years ago)

And now, the lead violinist in the orchestra makes a statement

Mark G, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 15:10 (eight years ago)

(I had like five other Smiths-related puns lined up and now have no use for them. Sigh.)

bannonality of evil (Ye Mad Puffin), Tuesday, 23 January 2018 15:11 (eight years ago)

i feel bad for the members of the orchestra

i: they are caught up in a vitriolic shitstorm not of their making, with derision hard on its heels
ii: they have been having to rehearse arrangements of smiths songs lol

mark s, Tuesday, 23 January 2018 15:17 (eight years ago)

They were looking for a job, then they found a job, then they lost a job.

Acid Hose (Capitaine Jay Vee), Tuesday, 23 January 2018 18:49 (eight years ago)

Yeah I didn’t realise he and Rourke were on Bona Drag. He hadn’t played on a record since according to his discography??? Even though I slagged off Rourke just now, he’s worked a lot more than that.
