also *really* enjoying the Mystery Weekend record - full of fun little twists and turns crammed into 26 mins. I knew I recognized the singer, took me a minute to realize it was the Protest the Hero guy!

tigers jaw are generally pleasantly boring. they almost get there every time. great musicians though

new manchester orchestra record might be my aoty? best rock band in the world right now especially since brand new are like never going to release another record

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 22 June 2017 17:31 (eight years ago)

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 22 June 2017 19:13 (eight years ago)

yeah i like that song! kinda interested if it'll diverge from peripheral vision more than that

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 22 June 2017 20:14 (eight years ago)

I'm sort of obsessed with "Change Irreversible" and this sounds totally in that ballpark so I'm pleased

both manorch (love that shorthand) singles are really really nice

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 22 June 2017 20:20 (eight years ago)

I'm not sure where to put this song--I get a Weakerthans vibe from the lyrics (emo?), and they're on SideOne Dummy (pop/punk?)--so I'm putting it here. Point is, I'm loving it.

some sad trombone Twilight Zone shit (cryptosicko), Sunday, 25 June 2017 15:10 (eight years ago)

They opened for Beach Slang a couple of years ago. I liked their 2015 album Imaginary Life quite a bit. "Plans" is great. If this is an indication of where they're going with their sound, I'm in.

husked, tonal wails (irrational), Monday, 26 June 2017 14:35 (eight years ago)

worriers rule

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Monday, 26 June 2017 14:45 (eight years ago)

so Creeper's Eternity, In Your Arms is basically the UK response to The Black Parade huh

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Tuesday, 27 June 2017 08:18 (eight years ago)

oh shit i finally got around to listening to that creeper record and imo this is the record that comes closest to collapsing the pop-punk/glam metal dichotomy, it's so ambitious and embarrassing. i LOVE it

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 6 July 2017 20:46 (eight years ago)

hahaha I was hoping you'd be into it!

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 6 July 2017 20:50 (eight years ago)

their economy is really impressive!

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 6 July 2017 20:50 (eight years ago)

oh thank god i'm not the only person who likes that album i'm not totally crazy

Mordy, Thursday, 6 July 2017 21:00 (eight years ago)

ilx album of the year, i'm calling it

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 6 July 2017 21:04 (eight years ago)

lol

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 6 July 2017 21:04 (eight years ago)

I'm listening to this again and at least 20 bands have sprung to mind over the first 5 tracks, it's really something

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 6 July 2017 21:06 (eight years ago)

sorta wish the record had mcr-quality sharpness in its production, it's real foggy sounding, but that's my only complaint so far

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 6 July 2017 21:21 (eight years ago)

has anyone heard this record from 2011? would've been a good fit in our emo poll tbh

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 6 July 2017 21:53 (eight years ago)

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Friday, 7 July 2017 15:35 (eight years ago)

someone posted it in the manchester orchestra thread on chorus.fm

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Friday, 7 July 2017 15:55 (eight years ago)

the opening track on the Turtlenecked record really reminds me of Say Anything

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Saturday, 8 July 2017 16:14 (eight years ago)

absolutely loving the Katie Ellen record (also x-posted to the twee thread)

saw Turtlenecked the other night...they're like Weezer meets Of Montreal or something? or is that insane?

they were good. singing drummer!

great Rosenstock set at Pitchfork, featuring a few amusing surprises I will not spoil and all of the Worry medley except for "Blast Damage Days"

i've been enjoying the new s/t album from The Life and Times:

https://thelifeandtimes.bandcamp.com/album/the-life-and-times

that's Allen Epley from Shiner plus a couple other dudes. shimmering guitar-rock that's shoegazey at times. think it sorta fits in this thread.

I feel like the emo thread's been a bit sleepy this year. more emo!

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 27 July 2017 03:44 (eight years ago)

i need to listen to more :/

Spottie, Thursday, 27 July 2017 03:55 (eight years ago)

when I get up tomorrow I'll cobble together a halftime+ list

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 27 July 2017 04:07 (eight years ago)

not as many bangers as the past couple years.

alpine static, Thursday, 27 July 2017 07:15 (eight years ago)

emo/pop-punk/dogs on skateboards/etc albums I have been enjoying this year to varying degrees, using a loose genre definition as always:

Sorority noise
Mystery Weekend
Hater
Creeper
Katie Ellen
Ratboys
Smidley
Charly Bliss
Rozwell Kid
Cayetana
Turtlenecked
Single Mothers

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 27 July 2017 21:12 (eight years ago)

i haven't been keeping up as much

are you shitting me that julie doiron is in a punk band

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 27 July 2017 21:13 (eight years ago)

yeah I have never cared about Cancer Bats but I am excited for this development

can Kathleen Edwards come back and front NOFX?

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 27 July 2017 21:17 (eight years ago)

thanks simon, have only heard one of those (sorority noise).

Spottie, Thursday, 27 July 2017 23:46 (eight years ago)

oh shit I forgot Smith St Band but I assume y'all have already heard that

that said, so far none of these are EOY list contenders save for Sorority Noise and maybe Katie Ellen

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 27 July 2017 23:49 (eight years ago)

of your list i'd say creeper and charly bliss

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 27 July 2017 23:57 (eight years ago)

"hiding with boys" has changed my life

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 27 July 2017 23:58 (eight years ago)

hahaha I KNEW that would be yr fave. great song. the whole album really levels up starting there

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Friday, 28 July 2017 01:21 (eight years ago)

I almost think we should have a dedicated thread for them cause I'm about to dig into their three EPs, two of which apparently extend the "story" (lol) of this album

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Friday, 28 July 2017 01:27 (eight years ago)

Manchester orchestra is out on Spotify now

Spottie, Friday, 28 July 2017 08:04 (eight years ago)

creeper album cover has me intrigued

Spottie, Friday, 28 July 2017 08:06 (eight years ago)

spottie check out the creeper record! i think you'll find stuff to like about it

the manchester orchestra record is officially my album of the year until further notice bc i started crying within twenty seconds of the first song

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Friday, 28 July 2017 13:31 (eight years ago)
