Looks like Reincarnation (posted upthread) is on the album too?

monotony, Tuesday, 6 June 2017 05:43 (nine years ago)

bleh, a staid ballad

sick, fucking funny, and well tasty (katherine), Tuesday, 6 June 2017 06:12 (nine years ago)

Differentiating between 'pop Susanne' and 'non-pop Susanne' is kind of meaningless to me cause she's serving the same amazing melodies either way.

joshywinty (josh), Tuesday, 6 June 2017 06:27 (nine years ago)

This song takes off too.

abcfsk, Tuesday, 6 June 2017 06:28 (nine years ago)

Reading an interview about this in a Norwegian newspaper:

Undercover is "inspired by Dolly Parton", and she goes on to say "country and folk music are genres I always come back to". Album inspired by her recent journeys and the political reality of the world today, apparently.

abcfsk, Tuesday, 6 June 2017 07:06 (nine years ago)

also bleh, it seems Ten Love Songs is going to be another Love's Victory March i.e. brilliant, sumptuous, colossal album that nothing following will be like

Parts of Ten Love Songs are like this though

abcfsk, Tuesday, 6 June 2017 07:29 (nine years ago)

those are the parts I don't like

sick, fucking funny, and well tasty (katherine), Tuesday, 6 June 2017 07:30 (nine years ago)

basically I don't understand how someone can go from "Accelerate" and "Insects" to something one step away from an Adele song

holy shit this is gorgeous

I get the Adele complaint, but c'mon, that pedal steel.

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Tuesday, 6 June 2017 12:47 (nine years ago)

it's not like this side of her is unprecedented or anything, though I'd definitely prefer it if it had a dance beat

I don't care for The Sound of War (the other new song she was playing live) or Reincarnation at all so I'm just thankful that there's something to like about Undercover

ufo, Tuesday, 6 June 2017 13:53 (nine years ago)

idk this is great

Seems a little early to make that prediction. New album is the same length as the last one, has an intriguing title and opens with a song called "Mantra." I don't think she's lost her ambition.

This track is heavenly. Could easily see it as an outlier on a Ten Love Songs-esque suite, but I'd just as happily take an entire LP of ballads this beautifully composed and personable

Evan R, Tuesday, 6 June 2017 14:22 (nine years ago)

She started out doing piano ballads - only, her piano ballads are as different from other piano ballads as her pop songs are.

abcfsk, Tuesday, 6 June 2017 14:46 (nine years ago)

another one of the new songs, live:

StanM, Tuesday, 6 June 2017 15:22 (nine years ago)

i love this even though the songs like it are the ones i skip on ten love songs. she rules, this rules, so does ten love songs, so does the silicone veil, so does that royksopp song

just another (diamonddave85), Tuesday, 6 June 2017 15:35 (nine years ago)

so does reincarnation

just another (diamonddave85), Tuesday, 6 June 2017 15:36 (nine years ago)

welp I guess the whole grandiose goth ABBA thing was a fluke wasn't it

he not like the banana (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 6 June 2017 21:21 (nine years ago)

As someone who thinks that "Darlings" is secretly the best song on Ten Love Songs, probably not a surprise that I love this. 70s MOR was an important part of that album too - surely that's where 50% of the Abba comparison comes from?

Ahh there it is.

This album's going to have some really beautiful parts scattered about it if you can stay awake between them.

Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Monday, 24 July 2017 04:39 (eight years ago)

yeah this won't be an ILX hivemind record but I love her arrangements so much

The pay off is typically beautiful but it feels like it takes a long time to get there. It seems like this is going to be a much harder album to love than Ten Love Songs.

kitchen person, Monday, 24 July 2017 13:52 (eight years ago)

idk about you guys, but i've been getting my full life from these new tracks. she can do no wrong in my mind.

joshywinty (josh), Monday, 24 July 2017 18:05 (eight years ago)

Seeing her at the Scott Walker Prom I really wasn't prepared for the sheer power of her voice in a live setting.
