I gotta be honest I regularly skip like 5 songs on Paramore (and I don't mean the interludes)

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Friday, 26 May 2017 06:58 (nine years ago)

love this one but BNE remains the best.

"Caught in the Middle" and "26" are the only ones that still haven't unbuttoned their shirts for me.

Caught in the Middle feels like a No Doubt album cut. While I like the idea of Paramore going ska, I wish there was more of a chorus. 26 is amazing though! At first I didn't think it lived up to Hate to See Your Heartbreak for me, as far as Paramore country attempts go, but sonically, it really feels like a lost Taylor Swift ballad circa Fearless or Speak Now.

Let the record reflect that I was OTM about "Grudges" upthread.

You were.

I think of "26" as a sequel to "Misguided Ghosts", which is one of the three ~perfect songs~ on Brand New Eyes.

But yeah there is something kinda Taylor about it.

Tim F, Friday, 26 May 2017 14:13 (nine years ago)

I've been listening to "Tell Me How" on repeat lately

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Friday, 26 May 2017 14:15 (nine years ago)

Dang, jealous that you all connected with this so much. I burned out on it pretty fast.

It's well crafted and has some solid songs but I think it's kinda tacky.

Evan R, Friday, 26 May 2017 15:15 (nine years ago)

“Pool” has been a thing for me.

The final three song stretch on this is hypnotizing stuff.

Carlotta's Portrait (Ross), Tuesday, 30 May 2017 01:38 (nine years ago)

I did -- four days without listening to "Hard Times"!

nice cage (m bison), Friday, 2 June 2017 04:47 (nine years ago)

I was thinking to myself yesterday "man, Fake Hpapy would be a great next single if it weren't for that pesky intro" then lo and behold there it is on Spotify with the intro shorn off

So this album has been a sales flop eh

the Rain Man of nationalism. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 12 June 2017 19:40 (eight years ago)

btw riot! came out ten years ago today

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Monday, 12 June 2017 19:41 (eight years ago)

So this album has been a sales flop eh

I was hoping that "Hard Times" or "Told You So" would end up as a slow-burn hit the way "Ain't It Fun" did but I guess that's looking unlikely

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Monday, 12 June 2017 19:46 (eight years ago)

they rushed the promo cycle on this record intentionally but its floppability may have been out of their hands anyway

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Monday, 12 June 2017 19:52 (eight years ago)

I will never understand the mechanics of what gets to be a pop hit tbh

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Monday, 12 June 2017 19:56 (eight years ago)

i'm surprised "hard times" didn't catch

J0rdan S., Monday, 12 June 2017 21:59 (eight years ago)

i'm telling you, pop radio is allergic to women who don't sound catatonic these days

maura, Monday, 12 June 2017 22:08 (eight years ago)

Even Katy Perry replacing Williams couldn't stop this from tumbling out of the top fifty. And Perry's next.

the Rain Man of nationalism. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 12 June 2017 22:09 (eight years ago)

maura otm. "Ain't It Fun" wouldn't reach the top ten in 2017 if RCA sent 20 grams of coke to every programmer.

the Rain Man of nationalism. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 12 June 2017 22:10 (eight years ago)

there are three women in the top 20 (not a typo) this week and two of them are muses for edm dudes

fuck -- "Bad Liar" is done.

"Fake Happy" is my favourite track

Unchanging Window (Ross), Wednesday, 14 June 2017 01:48 (eight years ago)

Can we discuss how beautifully -- how intricately -- York layers those guitar parts on "Told You So"? At least three riffs, each playing something different, and Williams has a melody line for'em all. The thing is like a cuckoo clock.

the Rain Man of nationalism. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 15 June 2017 00:21 (eight years ago)

& they didn't even need 500 years of democracy and peace

difficult listening hour, Thursday, 15 June 2017 00:31 (eight years ago)

Should be pretty easy to get rid of.

the Rain Man of nationalism. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 15 June 2017 00:45 (eight years ago)

wouldn't kick it with you after you hit that ground

difficult listening hour, Thursday, 15 June 2017 00:51 (eight years ago)

I tried to convince a skeptical peer of this album's genius by playing him "Told You So" and he replied with "bridge is OK, rest is meh" and now I truly understand rage

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 15 June 2017 01:24 (eight years ago)

that person is not your peer. treat them as the sub-human refuse that they are.

this makes me sad, although it was a youth female that recommended me this album in the first place, so hope 4 the future

nice cage (m bison), Thursday, 15 June 2017 03:15 (eight years ago)

has it been remarked that "forgiveness" sounds like a christine mcvie-penned FM song?

J0rdan S., Friday, 16 June 2017 14:42 (eight years ago)

hmm, what other covers can i summon...

DON'T YOU THINK IT'S WEIRD HOW "TOLD YOU SO" SOUNDS LIKE STEVE REICH'S "TEHILLIM"???

nice cage (m bison), Friday, 16 June 2017 14:49 (eight years ago)

I don’t really care about Fleetwood Mac. They should play some Staind.

the ghost of markers, Friday, 16 June 2017 16:34 (eight years ago)

I still haven't caught up with the new one. Loved the self-titled record though. This one is a bit more synthy, no?

you might say so
