Also mildly annoyed that Donna Summer only placed once, in the 200s, with a Stock Aitken Waterman production.

LeRooLeRoo, Thursday, 18 May 2017 17:35 (nine years ago)

i'm just gonna stop trying to guess what the top 7 are and accept that there have been shocking, devastating failures to place

dyl, Thursday, 18 May 2017 17:35 (nine years ago)

Forget Me Nots OTM

sexualing healing (crüt), Thursday, 18 May 2017 17:35 (nine years ago)

Wait, 'All Cried Out' didn't make the top 300?!? Where am I!?

human/hutt hybrid (Old Lunch), Thursday, 18 May 2017 17:35 (nine years ago)

"forget me nots": really good but now hugely overrated? *dodges tomatoes*

we haven't seen Word Up yet.

Ah, of course! That's the top 7 settled then. Kinda boring, but that's to expected at this point. At least they're all top tunes! In fact, the whole top 10 is nothing less than brilliant. Can't think of any other poll where that was the case.

Throw one at me!

the Rain Man of nationalism. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 18 May 2017 17:37 (nine years ago)

"forget me nots" did sneak onto my ballot tho :P

also terrified that there might be no new edition in the entire top 250 :(

huge bummer but i can only blame myself here, iirc "if it isn't love" was at the very bottom of my list

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 18 May 2017 17:39 (nine years ago)

There's no way to overrate Forget Me Nots! The bassline and handclaps alone are among the top 3 basslines and handclaps in Western music.

Tuomas, Thursday, 18 May 2017 17:39 (nine years ago)

"Forget Me Nots" and all Patrice really = sparkling and clean and flawless

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Thursday, 18 May 2017 17:39 (nine years ago)

groove of "forget me nots" is unstoppable

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 18 May 2017 17:39 (nine years ago)

Can honestly think of few things more refreshing than a good Patrice groove.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Thursday, 18 May 2017 17:40 (nine years ago)

I feel like Janet should have placed more, but I don't think anything will beat "When I Think Of You" here. I prefer "Nasty" and "Miss You Much".

And no Jody Watley :-(

LeRooLeRoo, Thursday, 18 May 2017 17:42 (nine years ago)

The biggest shockers here from my view are no Sylvester and no Maze.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Thursday, 18 May 2017 17:43 (nine years ago)

guessing jody got vote-split to hell. i personally had trouble deciding which of her songs to vote for

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 18 May 2017 17:44 (nine years ago)

no Maze

oh shit! fuck this poll imo

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 18 May 2017 17:44 (nine years ago)

As we're talking about big omissions, I'm disappointed Nona Hendryx didn't place anywhere on the list.

kitchen person, Thursday, 18 May 2017 17:44 (nine years ago)

Solo Jody Watley is fine but she's not top 300 of the decade material imo.

human/hutt hybrid (Old Lunch), Thursday, 18 May 2017 17:45 (nine years ago)

speaking of not nearly enough shalamar placed

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 18 May 2017 17:47 (nine years ago)

maze another victim of voters' tendency to overlook 'adult'/quiet stormish stuff that wasn't anita baker or sade (or "moments in love" lol)

dyl, Thursday, 18 May 2017 17:47 (nine years ago)

xxpost Contrasted with her vocals on, say, 'Second Time Around', her solo stuff sounds so...muted? Restrained? Something.

human/hutt hybrid (Old Lunch), Thursday, 18 May 2017 17:48 (nine years ago)

it is! that's part of the appeal imo

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 18 May 2017 17:49 (nine years ago)

Few songs have the same effect on my favorite old folks as "Before I Let Go."

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Thursday, 18 May 2017 17:50 (nine years ago)

i saw an entire field of ppl lose it to "before i let go" recently; i'm ashamed to admit that i *forgot* to vote for it, even though i placed "back in stride" really high in my ballot

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 18 May 2017 17:58 (nine years ago)

I'm ashamed it only managed to get onto the lower unranked half of my ballot.

FINALLY!

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Thursday, 18 May 2017 18:01 (nine years ago)

classic! but didn't have room for it on my ballot lol

dyl, Thursday, 18 May 2017 18:02 (nine years ago)

My number 1 until a last minute swap out to George Benson because I always have this as number 1 when I make lists that it's eligible for.

I'll take number 6 I guess

i know kore-eda (or something), Thursday, 18 May 2017 18:04 (nine years ago)

should be no. 1

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 18 May 2017 18:09 (nine years ago)

My number 1! Great to see it this high up.

Gavin, Leeds, Thursday, 18 May 2017 18:12 (nine years ago)

So far nothing's gotten more than 1 #1 placement

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Thursday, 18 May 2017 18:13 (nine years ago)

I like this better than her version of "I Feel For You". I like "I Know You, I Live You" better than either, but that's not gonna place.

Futuristic Bow Wow (thewufs), Thursday, 18 May 2017 18:18 (nine years ago)

"I Know You" and "wha'cha Gonna Do" both deserved top 50 slots

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Thursday, 18 May 2017 18:20 (nine years ago)

This should have a couple really xxp

i know kore-eda (or something), Thursday, 18 May 2017 18:21 (nine years ago)

Quiet storm, apart from anything that crossed over to AC radio (or what my mom listened to on most car trips when I was a kid) is a huge blind spot for me. I don't typically love R&B ballads unless the chord changes are really rich - my dream is for someone to make me a playlist of 80s quiet storm stuff with lots of minor 7th and minor 9th chords.

Futuristic Bow Wow (thewufs), Thursday, 18 May 2017 18:24 (nine years ago)

xpost re: Chaka, That one is a pleasant surprise. It unfortunately dropped off the bottom of my ballot, but I'm glad y'all are here to make up for my unfortunate lapses in character.

human/hutt hybrid (Old Lunch), Thursday, 18 May 2017 18:27 (nine years ago)

Aaaaand I don't think I know what the #5 best r&b song of the '80s even is.

human/hutt hybrid (Old Lunch), Thursday, 18 May 2017 18:28 (nine years ago)

Well it's your lucky day then

i know kore-eda (or something), Thursday, 18 May 2017 18:28 (nine years ago)

Yay for Heartbeat! Never dreamed it would place this high, but what a beat, what a groove, what a time to be alive!

Tuomas, Thursday, 18 May 2017 18:29 (nine years ago)

The high placement of this is probably my biggest surprise of the whole poll. It deserves to be here.

kitchen person, Thursday, 18 May 2017 18:30 (nine years ago)

yes!!
