The all-time roller skating rink classic in my town.

There isn't a single Culture Club song I would consider to be R&B.

As I mentioned in the voting thread, I only just realized while preparing for this poll that 'Church of the Poison Mind' sounds an awful lot like something the Miracles could've recorded.

Not a fan of that culture club song regardless of genre but really

Imagination are maybe my favourite band of the 80s, still hoping for one more in particular but not confident

Body Talk is a lock surely.

There are just some artists when you see them on a list of nominations you just know they're going to show up and ludicrously high at that.

incredible song

dyl, Tuesday, 16 May 2017 18:47 (nine years ago)

Positive that #1 was mine. Glad I could do what I could do to push it as high as it got, being a non-single and all.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Tuesday, 16 May 2017 18:49 (nine years ago)

Will go to my grave believing this to be Prince's finest moment.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Tuesday, 16 May 2017 18:49 (nine years ago)

I remember coming to the Purple Rain soundtrack as someone who had played Controversy and 1999 on repeat, getting to "The Beautiful Ones" and going "OH WAIT HOLD UP WHAT" and then replaying the song 5 times in a row (this was on an LP)

PJD PDJ DPJ (DJP), Tuesday, 16 May 2017 18:50 (nine years ago)

i think i have burst into tears watching the segment of him performing this in purple rain the movie

dyl, Tuesday, 16 May 2017 18:51 (nine years ago)

Me, countless times, just listening to it on my headphones.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Tuesday, 16 May 2017 18:52 (nine years ago)

It's interesting that there were so many Prince songs nominated yet somehow When You Were Mine missed out. It won the Prince poll a few years ago. If I'd more time to get involved in the nominations process, I would have mentioned it.

Get an '80s new wave poll together.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Tuesday, 16 May 2017 19:04 (nine years ago)

Sure to have about 40% overlap...

becoming aware of imagination for the first time is my main discovery from this poll and i'm really glad about it

Just looked back on my rushed ballot and didn't give nearly enough love for imagination. Just body talk way down near the bottom. Sorry people.

wtev, Tuesday, 16 May 2017 19:09 (nine years ago)

Voted for lots of Prince but this was the highest of his in my ballot. My no3

wtev, Tuesday, 16 May 2017 19:11 (nine years ago)

^^^ this is the business

PJD PDJ DPJ (DJP), Tuesday, 16 May 2017 19:23 (nine years ago)

The only Wondersong I included too.

"Time (Clock of the Heart)" sounds R&B to me (I voted for it). As Kevin Bozelka once said, it's the best song ever written about being in love with a straight man.

the Rain Man of nationalism. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 16 May 2017 19:45 (nine years ago)

i forgot about the rapping in the full-length version

dyl, Tuesday, 16 May 2017 19:51 (nine years ago)

I may have also thrown a vote "Lately"s way.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Tuesday, 16 May 2017 19:53 (nine years ago)

What ... unrepresentative cover art.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Tuesday, 16 May 2017 19:59 (nine years ago)

Also, yessss!

dyl, Tuesday, 16 May 2017 20:20 (nine years ago)

"The Glow of Love" remains my worst ever karaoke performance

sexualing healing (crüt), Tuesday, 16 May 2017 20:20 (nine years ago)

"searching" is also great now that i am reminded by that sleeve art

dyl, Tuesday, 16 May 2017 20:20 (nine years ago)

I only discovered "Oh Sheila" a few weeks before this poll started. It went straight to number 5 on my ballot.

ArchCarrier, Tuesday, 16 May 2017 20:25 (nine years ago)

Best use of timpani ever.

ArchCarrier, Tuesday, 16 May 2017 20:28 (nine years ago)
