"Make Me a Memory (Sad Samba)" sounds like a song I ought to know way more intimately that I currently do.

I love "Lover's Holiday" a little less than some of y'all but this is a 5-for-5 top 100 so far.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Monday, 15 May 2017 14:11 (nine years ago)

I'm three for five among the top 100 thus far. This might be the rare poll where my votes align with the consensus.

xp I just meant they were all great songs ... not sure any of them actually got my vote

I used to confuse Junior for Matthew Wilder.

Super Single!

kitchen person, Monday, 15 May 2017 14:38 (nine years ago)

You guys have been waiting so long for me to finish; should I do a 2-day rollout to get it over with, or spread it out over 4 or 5 days?

ArchCarrier, Monday, 15 May 2017 14:45 (nine years ago)

I think 4 days of 25 sounds about right.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Monday, 15 May 2017 14:47 (nine years ago)

xp i was wondering about that; i guess it was just another way of saying 'maxi single'.

piscesx, Monday, 15 May 2017 14:47 (nine years ago)

oh god

way wayyyyy too low

Sweet Love is peerless

Huh @ 'How Will I Know'. This poll helped me realize that I'm not crazy about any of the big Whitney singles with the exception of 'Greatest Love of All'. Maybe I voted for that? Can't remember. But I think the Whitney track I definitely voted for is a lost cause at this point, sadly.

A great single, but it has no place in an R&B poll, I really don't get why people nominated and voted for it?

Not "Sure, why not?" or "Hmmm" at all.

This is "100 percent OTM!"

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Monday, 15 May 2017 17:03 (nine years ago)

Thanks, Moodles!

ArchCarrier, Monday, 15 May 2017 17:34 (nine years ago)

lol at y'all 'hmmmm'ing a track that only gets played on r&b radio in 2017 and has been a fixture of quiet storm sets for years

dyl, Monday, 15 May 2017 17:39 (nine years ago)

meanwhile voting in white women's hi-nrg tracks that didn't even chart r&b without so much as a shrug lol

dyl, Monday, 15 May 2017 17:40 (nine years ago)

Shrugs all around then.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Monday, 15 May 2017 17:42 (nine years ago)

Differing opinions of what constitutes R&B is a big reason why the rollout needed to be 250 songs long.

Sanpaku, Monday, 15 May 2017 17:42 (nine years ago)

this stretch of the results has really been excellent tho :D

(including "moments in love" which I NOMINATED AND VOTED FOR)

dyl, Monday, 15 May 2017 17:45 (nine years ago)

I could only bring myself to make space for one TTD track ('Sign Your Name') but all of his nominated songs were worthy of inclusion among this pantheon imo.

I've no idea what you're talking about here? And I never voted for anything like that.

Also, I don't understand what radio play has to do with, because few radio stations are strictly and exclusively one-genre only? The local rock station occasionally plays classic soul tunes, that doesn't mean they magically turn into rock music because of that. I can see R&B lovers loving "Moments in Love", but the tune itself is unarguably synth pop. Which is further away from R&B than hi-NRG (a disco offshoot) is.

"That's all we have time for right now; thank you very much for tuning in! We'll see you all back here later for another episode of Tuomas Has Spoken."

PJD PDJ DPJ (DJP), Monday, 15 May 2017 18:13 (nine years ago)

i'm not pointing fingers at you all since i have no idea what anyone voted for other than me. just think this song is a much better fit than some of the others that have placed and didn't attract a bunch of complaints. admittedly my 'non-r&b-charting hi-nrg tracks by white women' was also not really about a specific track, just a snide remark i made based on some of the stacey q/madonna/george michael/freestyle ones that have shown up thus far (to clarify i think some george michael tracks are perfect fits and others aren't).

r&b stations tend to play only r&b, including the one where i've been hearing "moments in love" for years. that song has also been appearing on compilations that were otherwise entirely r&b for over 20 years now. if anything this distinction of "well actually it's synth-pop" is arbitrary considering that category isn't mutually exclusive with r&b either.

dyl, Monday, 15 May 2017 18:13 (nine years ago)

Shit! Sorry, please ignore!
