how is "Don't Disturb This Groove" not in the top 50

ditto "Funkytown", "I Wonder If I Take You Home" (aka the BEST Lisa Lisa song) and "Let's Hear It For The Boy"

PJD PDJ DPJ (DJP), Wednesday, 10 May 2017 17:21 (seven years ago) link

Yeah, 'Let's Hear It For The Boy' is another that I'm shocked to see so low. I don't even know, man.

'Pop Life' though! I'm happy to see any Prince pop up anywhere it pops up, as I figured most of his stuff got vote split into oblivion.

Didn't realize there was such love for "Don't Disturb This Groove." Was a blind spot for me until now.

("Let the Beat Hit 'Em" is the best Lisa Lisa for me. Can't wait to vote for it in the '90s R&B poll.)

Huh. 'Jammin'' is a surprise. Not among the late-period Stevie I voted for but worthy.

"Absolute" is absolute.

Look, I love a lot of these songs but ... how much more corny and further away from, like, René & Angela is this going to get?

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Wednesday, 10 May 2017 17:56 (seven years ago) link

Does that count?

ArchCarrier, Wednesday, 10 May 2017 17:59 (seven years ago) link

Thanks!

xxxposts Cosign. Although I do find myself suddenly wishing I'd bit the bullet and voted for 'Mister Softee' (which is arguably at least much more R&B than 'Stool Pigeon', plus it's amazing).

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Wednesday, 10 May 2017 18:03 (seven years ago) link

HUH. I totally missed that Carly Simon song in the nominations, I guess, because I considered nominating it myself. I really don't like her for the most part, but that song has a dece groove, at least. BUT...wtf is it doing that high in the results, people.

it's a great chic org track

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Wednesday, 10 May 2017 18:04 (seven years ago) link

i mean i didn't vote for it but

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Wednesday, 10 May 2017 18:05 (seven years ago) link

"in my house" however, whew, what a song

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Wednesday, 10 May 2017 18:05 (seven years ago) link

I voted for all three of the big Kid Creole hits. Tropical Gangsters is one of the most underrated albums ever.

I'm surprised Absolute is so low. It was my number four. One of the best produced songs I know.

i excised all scritti from my ballot on a whim of "i feel weird prioritizing them in this particular poll"

hope "perfect way" will do good anyway

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Wednesday, 10 May 2017 18:12 (seven years ago) link

xp OK, can't argue that one, tho I did end up cutting it.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Wednesday, 10 May 2017 18:12 (seven years ago) link

HOW IS THIS NOT IN THE TOP 50

dammit I should have voted

PJD PDJ DPJ (DJP), Wednesday, 10 May 2017 18:20 (seven years ago) link

my fav midnight star song

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Wednesday, 10 May 2017 18:22 (seven years ago) link

I'll be your freak-a-zoid, come on and wind me up!

Incredible tune, this one and Warp 9 were the only electro I think I voted, cos they feel more R&B than, say, "Rockit".

Tuomas, Wednesday, 10 May 2017 18:25 (seven years ago) link

Oh no, actually I also voted for Planet Patrol, the most trad R&B of electro acts.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 10 May 2017 18:27 (seven years ago) link

lol i love this song and forgot to vote for it

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Wednesday, 10 May 2017 18:32 (seven years ago) link

one of the two prince songs i voted for. was in my top five

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Wednesday, 10 May 2017 18:46 (seven years ago) link

Hell of a cover on that single.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Wednesday, 10 May 2017 18:48 (seven years ago) link

On the days 17 Days isn't my favourite Prince song Mountains is. Love the video too

i know kore-eda (or something), Wednesday, 10 May 2017 18:51 (seven years ago) link

The main reason why Parade is my favorite Prince album is because from Kiss onwards it is 100% fire, on a level I don't think he sustained on any other release. (Before anyone goes there, the first half of the album is on par with the overall level of his imperial time period; everything on the second half is on another planet altogether at a level he hits on other releases with selected songs but doesn't maintain for the entire side.)

PJD PDJ DPJ (DJP), Wednesday, 10 May 2017 18:57 (seven years ago) link

OMG YES @ THE LAST TWO, except that they're both clearly top ten, wtf. Amazing amazing amazing songs.

Parade is also my favorite Prince album. Because it is inarguably the best.

alllll night long

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Wednesday, 10 May 2017 19:03 (seven years ago) link

"Fantastic Voyage" and "Don't Stop the Music" are the first tunes in the rollout that I'm really upset aren't in the top 100. Utter classics of real black radio.

baby, we don't love you baby, we don't love you baby, yeah (Sanpaku), Wednesday, 10 May 2017 19:04 (seven years ago) link

damn that's low for that song. i assume there's a ton of janet to go tho
