Coulda voted for that, but got the latent "more pop than R&B" voice in my ear

r&b radio often was quite poppy around that time and the pointers straddled that then-narrow gulf w/ ease

everyone should be way more into teena marie than they are

Incredible tune, there's not much better than deep gospel house! It wasn't in my ballot tho, 'cos I had to cut off all house music to trim it to 100. But if we'll ever do an '80s electronic music poll, I promise to rank it high.

I played my copy of "Promised Land" to a friend last year, without telling her what I was putting on. As soon as the bassline kicked in, she burst into tears.

I wasn't sure whether soulful house was going to mesh with my notions of what constitutes 80s R&B, but in the context of my full long list, it meshed just fine.

Yeah, Clouds Across the Moon is so great. It's such an incredibly sad story and vocal performance. I was playing it obsessively this time last year.
