i think he did it for a year

flappy bird, Thursday, 20 April 2017 02:05 (nine years ago)

I take it back, he wrote a bunch and I wasn't paying attention.

tylerw, Thursday, 20 April 2017 02:08 (nine years ago)

I wonder how many people sent him hate mail

Bobson Dugnutt (ulysses), Thursday, 20 April 2017 13:42 (nine years ago)

ok, i think it's kinda hilarious there was this widespread mocking of justin bieber for saying in the NYT Where Are U Now video that they were "expensive sounds" and now i've seen that exact language used in both p4k's DAMN. review and its Narkopop one today

austinb, Friday, 21 April 2017 19:43 (nine years ago)

honestly always liked it as a shorthand descriptor so i'm pleasantly surprised to see it popping up

If you’re a fan of cheesy snack foods and well-curated superhero film soundtracks, Doritos has developed just the thing for you.

nomar, Tuesday, 25 April 2017 16:20 (nine years ago)

I think they could jazz up these press release stories by speculating that the corporate spokesperson was smoking a blunt while responding to the writer's emails.

I will never not be funny that Pitchfork still runs lede grafs like this after 20 years

That Software review is one of the more embarrassing ones I've seen in a while.

afriendlypioneer, Thursday, 27 April 2017 23:29 (nine years ago)

it's not perfect but that Software album definitely dserves far better than that write-up and lowest billing for the day

boxedjoy, Thursday, 27 April 2017 23:43 (nine years ago)

Like honestly, it's so so so funny to me that this company has made literal millions upon millions on deals with huge media companies and inventing wildly profitable music festivals and at no point do they ever think to change their house style from "let's start with two sentences passionately explaining what it's like to use a service that's more popular than Facebook"

Jay Elettronica Viva (Whiney G. Weingarten), Friday, 28 April 2017 00:30 (nine years ago)

And, to be fair, since I'm old now, no shots at a young writer in a broken system.

Jay Elettronica Viva (Whiney G. Weingarten), Friday, 28 April 2017 00:36 (nine years ago)

never heard of Software but I'm liking this quite a bit

blonde redheads have more fun (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 28 April 2017 20:24 (nine years ago)

Worth reading Annie Zaleski's story on them and their rediscovery some weeks back:

Ned Raggett, Friday, 28 April 2017 20:25 (nine years ago)

I really don't like being told I like something because it's ironic and I'm just having a chuckle. No, actually, I like the album, and my feelings are completely genuine.

afriendlypioneer, Friday, 28 April 2017 20:41 (nine years ago)

i never thought it was that obscure. but i live in a weird world.

scott seward, Friday, 28 April 2017 20:45 (nine years ago)

"embraced by a new Doritos generation" might be closer to the truth.

scott seward, Friday, 28 April 2017 20:46 (nine years ago)

Oh, ffs.

The Anti-Climax Blues Band (Turrican), Friday, 28 April 2017 20:51 (nine years ago)

Klaus's label had good distro in the 80's. not that hard to come by. prog people who turned into new age people bought a lot of that stuff. Software had a bunch of albums!

scott seward, Friday, 28 April 2017 20:51 (nine years ago)

waiting for the inevitable Dancing Fantasy resurgence

(seriously, they're better than Software)

Wimmels, Friday, 28 April 2017 23:40 (nine years ago)

that was a few years ago already

flopson, Saturday, 29 April 2017 00:40 (nine years ago)

dancing fantasy was probably sampled in a lot of vaporwave tunes

a but (brimstead), Saturday, 29 April 2017 01:08 (nine years ago)

from whosampled.com:

Macintosh Plus's ECCOと悪寒ダイビング sample of Dancing Fantasy's Déjà Vu
Macintosh Plus's 数学 sample of Dancing Fantasy's Worldwide
Macintosh Plus's 待機 sample of Dancing Fantasy's Hang Loose
Macintosh Plus's ピコ sample of Dancing Fantasy's Carioca Groove

pitchfork, day 6752: first deployment of autoplaying videos with sound that don't appear above the fold so you have no idea where the sound is or how to stop it.

http://pitchfork.com/thepitch/1501-amber-coffman-on-why-her-solo-debut-is-more-than-a-breakup-album/

Karl Malone, Monday, 1 May 2017 15:26 (nine years ago)

autoplay is a scourge

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Monday, 1 May 2017 15:27 (nine years ago)

i think that's something to do with the vevo embed, those always seem to autoplay now

ufo, Monday, 1 May 2017 15:29 (nine years ago)

I am usually listening to Spotify when I go onto Pitchfork (searching for what they said about such-and-such album). Drives me crazy that something in their autoplay embeds forces Spotify to stop playing. And yet the audio for their autoplay doesn't actually come on unless I tap for sound. So that's irritating.

sctttnnnt (pgwp), Monday, 1 May 2017 16:08 (nine years ago)

Are there any actual Chromatics fans in real life, aside from a handful of Pitchfork writers? Seriously, the hagiography of this guy is absurd. I have literally never heard a single human being talk about this band, and there are two threads on ILX with fewer than twenty posts between them.
