The album sleeve looks really naff, definitely. It looks like it was knocked up in a couple of hours by a record label art department in 1988.

does it matter whether two musicians whose collecive age is over 140 years approved a naff sleeve?

Maybe if they expect anyone under the age of 70 to pick it up and give it a listen?

Well, it's clear to me that the rest of the band wanted to make a record but Stevie didn't. Stevie is going to be joining the band for a potentially lucrative tour and obviously they don't want to fuck that up, so in order to prevent hurt feelings and to ensure said lucrative tour goes ahead as planned they wussed out from calling this a Fleetwood Mac record/were forced to put this out as something other than a Fleetwood Mac record, thus denying the record the audience it could have had if it were actually being released as what it is.

Personally, I would have released this as a Fleetwood Mac record and stuck a sheep adorned with a Madonna mic onstage.

Nicks has also said it costs too much fucking money to record an album in 2017, which is a strange remark considering they got several home studios and produce themselves.

Absolutely! Also she said something along the lines of "people don't buy albums anymore", but the demographic that Fleetwood Mac would mostly appeal to in 2017 would actually buy the physical product. I can just picture those at the Steve Hoffman Retirement Home for Lovers of Talking About Pet Sounds arguing over which is the best pressing.

Besides, she would only have needed to contribute three songs, or be in the studio for a fortnight like she was on Tango in the Night. The press about it being the first album from the five-piece Mac line-up for 30 years would have phenomenal and led to far more exposure than this record's gonna get. A wasted opportunity.

Lindsey saying this could be their last album definitely intensifies the wasted opportunity

josh otm, i haven't bothered checking out any of LB's recent solo albums just because of the awful covers. a stupid reason, for sure, but not uncommon.

It's a really good song with all the tasty rhythm section work we've come to expect from Fleetwood Mac, the bass and drums in this case having that lovely 'Dreams' groove.

I just love that this song scans as "classic" Mac (late '70s imperial phase production/rhythm work) but is also just this weird-ass Lindsey thing

OTM. It's also the first Fleetwood Mac album for over a decade, which is all the more reason to get excited.

love love love the single. puzzled/alarmed by the tour announcement, which currently has the buckingham mcvie tour skipping la (and ny), maybe because la (and ny) have the classic west east thingy at baseball stadiums with the eagles, but that's going to make me jealous of the rest of the country which gets to see them in not-a-baseball-stadium. please fix this, lindsey and christine, once you are done fixing the album cover kthxbye.

also, there WAS a Mac EP (download only) a few years back. It was good. It was completely overlooked.

yeah did you see rage against the machine are also on tour

saw them at the greek theatre in la tonight. buckingham is such a dominating stage presence that it felt more like a buckingham show with mcvie helping out than a buckingham mcvie show. also, her voice was not in a good place. she sounded like she was struggling all night. a little sad. it was still really nice to hear her give "wish you were here" a go. he talks too much and is boring and plays "never going back again" as a frighteningly slow dirge. the backing band (two guitarists who are longtime buckingham/mac regulars and a rhythm section who are not mick and john) came out after four songs and breathed some life onto the stage. "sleeping around the corner" from the new album was great in a way that made me wish they had totally fleetwood mac'd it up in the studio. that was my highlight of the night, along with a fully credible and fun go at "tusk." the set was about half fleetwood mac, half buckingham/mcvie, and two buckingham solo tunes thrown in. they ended quietly, with mcvie on piano singing a good ballad from the new album called "game of pretend," which she introduced by saying "this is not 'songbird,'" which was either a joke or an apology, i couldn't tell. glad i went. not sure what i was expecting. probably pretty much what i got.

"Game of Pretend" is a solid album closer.

Well, all "Sleeping Around the Corner" was missing to make if full Mac was Stevie!

It was totally the Bucky show here as well. I could barely hear Mcvie's keyboard playing, and she felt very much a supporting role. Having seen lots of Buckingham live, plus Mac, I think it would have been fine had she just been rolled out as needed to sing Everywhere, Little Lies, and Hold Me.

She closed the show with that same quip about Songbird by the way. Likewise, I couldn't tell if she was joking or apologizing. As it was, the show was maybe half full and people were already streaming out.

truel but it sounds kind of small and weirdly enervated on the album. the live arrangement opened it up, made it more fun, bigger.

also christine's voice was a little variable but she hit every note in "you make loving fun" so who cares?

i think "hold me"'s key was shifted but i assume that was for lindsey's benefit more than christine's

Could you hear much of her keyboard? How full was the audience?

it was pretty full but not sold out at the beacon theater i think. it was only difficult to hear christine's keyboard when lindsey was playing his solo tracks

Have you seen Bucky solo? Because it was pretty much like every solo Bucky show I'd seen, plus special guest Christine doing her songs.
