I can understand holding out against streaming services, but ffs, The Distance is out of print?
His management is obviously fucking up, but surely Seger must be somewhat aware of the deluxe boxes and vinyl reissues his contemporaries have been putting out. And if so, is he just thinking, "Welp, not for me"? If he's not careful, in a few years he's gonna end up like the Dave Clark Five -- once huge, now forgotten, due to factors that were completely and easily avoidable.

Gonna jump on this (not the yellow COLLECTIBLE one, the regular one). It's an encouraging sign, at least.

Bad News: The side that says it is "2+2=?" actually has "Seven Nation Army" on it.

The following Seger albums are now on Spotify and iTunes, Apple Music, etc., etc.:
Ramblin' Gamblin' Man, Beautiful Loser, Live Bullet, Night Moves, Stranger in Town, Against the Wind, Nine Tonight, The Distance, Like a Rock, The Fire Inside
On Spotify at least, some are credited to Bob Seger, while others are credited to Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band, so they don't all come up with a single search.

Ramblin' Gamblin' has actually been reissued on vinyl! We've got it at work.

I guess this is the best Seger thread on ILM, so...
The lead single from his new album is a Lou Reed cover

Getting reacquainted w/my early Seger vinyl, and wandered over to discogs to see about Back In '72...man, that's an expensive record! Cheapest one up right now is $60 (shipping included) from the UK.

Yup. IIRC, it--along with Noah & Brand New Morning--have been purposely suppressed by the man himself.
Currently spinning a nice clean original press of Seven.

The South Korean reissue label Big Pink has put out Back In '72, Mongrel, Brand New Morning and Noah. If they're anything like the version of Luis Gasca's For Those Who Chant (early '70s Latin jazz-rock fusion) I bought, they'll be coming in really nice mini-LP sleeves and have excellent sound. Dusty Groove has them.

Wow, didn’t know until now that Seger had covered that. Free’s version is a little stiff, and listening to Seger’s, it’s a little clunky (he should’ve sung it in a slightly higher register), but the Faces’ version is all-time, one of the best things they ever did. Bettye LaVette’s version is equally stunning.

Tyme to ask tylerw to re-re-up the xpost Myonga comp (which placed in Pazz & Jop): for one thing, it goes further than the finally authorized collection, with "Heavy Music" etc.

A rare case of an artist who was less willing to release his own records than ABKCO/Allen Klein, and that's the one good thing about ABKCO owning the Cameo/Parkway catalog - at least they released a few of those singles 17 years ago (from the original masters to boot).

...and they've subsequently issued several single-artist comps, genre collections, and licensed out stuff out to Ace and other boutique labels.
