just used "slave 1" in a mix!

butter tickle (tricky), Saturday, 2 May 2009 04:05 (seventeen years ago)

I always think Mark E being from Manchester makes a lot of sense cos his stuff feels so like the Unabombers type of music, in a really huge way. I recommend people here check out Electric Soul 1 and 2 (not heard some of the later CDs.) I don't usually go for downtempo "nu soul" or whatever but those mixes are the more than acceptable face with lots of house/disco stuff too...

Local Garda, Saturday, 2 May 2009 09:12 (seventeen years ago)

Man, I forgot how good "R&B Drunkie" is -- I've been looking for that for ages, too. Thanks!!!

pshrbrn, Saturday, 2 May 2009 10:41 (seventeen years ago)

my parents play the fuck out of all this stuff. when i was young and experimenting with cool edit pro dad used to get me to loop his favourite bits from his records. just wish i had a delay and and a filter. could have been 13 year old moodymann.

Crackle Box, Saturday, 2 May 2009 10:44 (seventeen years ago)

i have been mixing this stuff every other wednesday night at Seattle's Grey Gallery

brotherlovesdub, what time? I play every Wed at Havana, across the street, from 7 to 9 p.m., just playing whatever I want, sit-down radio-DJ style. I should obv. swing by if you're on after 9!

Matos W.K., Saturday, 2 May 2009 21:17 (seventeen years ago)

i start at 9 and mix until 10:30, then again after midnight. we're losing the weekly after may and will go to a monthy in june. since i mixed this week, I won't mix again until the week after next. next week is dj struggle and d'jeronimo though, and they play all sorts of incredible deep house ala reggie dokes, prime numbers etc. great dj's.

brotherlovesdub, Saturday, 2 May 2009 22:26 (seventeen years ago)

Good to know, thanks.

Matos W.K., Saturday, 2 May 2009 22:36 (seventeen years ago)

Nyers - mark e gonna be at santos week after next

rip dom passantino 3/5/09 never forget (max), Sunday, 3 May 2009 12:23 (seventeen years ago)

not to be mr spam dude but roman flugel's mix here is in this style and v nice

Local Garda, Sunday, 3 May 2009 13:07 (seventeen years ago)

since there is a little bit of dj cole medina / scott k discussion on the thread, anybody have a copy of his (limited to 1000) edit of james brown's "satisfied", as seen here?

moonship journey to baja, Sunday, 3 May 2009 13:38 (seventeen years ago)

grabbing now, ronan. btw, i don't think mark e is from manchester. in/around birmingham maybe?

andrew m., Sunday, 3 May 2009 18:12 (seventeen years ago)

ah my bad, I was sure that he was all this time.

Local Garda, Sunday, 3 May 2009 18:15 (seventeen years ago)

would looove to hear more unabombers btw, all i seem to have is that 'electric chair saved my life' from last year. which is good, but probably wouldn't have connected them to this 'slo mo' business based on the mix or anything

i am the eye in the sky... (psychgawsple), Sunday, 3 May 2009 18:55 (seventeen years ago)

yeah I guess it's not really connected, I do think specifically Mark E's mixes are quite similar to theirs though, just the source material for his edits and stuff.

Local Garda, Sunday, 3 May 2009 19:23 (seventeen years ago)

I re-listened to the Roman Ronan mix last Friday by coincidence and noted how codeine-disco-y it was!

rebel without a cape (sic), Sunday, 3 May 2009 22:48 (seventeen years ago)

that sick dub delay band 12" totally fits in here, right?

QE II, Sunday, 3 May 2009 23:19 (seventeen years ago)

san frandisco: it's on the way

thanks!!!

space cowboy (san frandisco), Monday, 4 May 2009 23:18 (seventeen years ago)

I've been away from a computer over the long weekend, but thanks for all the links, uploads and recommendations!

jamie where is that initial quote from?

It's from Dicky Trisco, from his mix on Cool in the Pool with Pete Herbert
http://www.coolinthepool.com/radio.html

i think what i love most about this genre is the bpms could be considered practically downtempo, but the way the tracks are arranged gives them that awesome chugging energy that makes you want to dance

This nails exactly what I find compelling about this stuff.

For my money, Beat Down and Deja Vu are the best Mark E tracks. So good.

And there are a ton of Revenge tracks to stream here http://soundcloud.com/the-revenge

Jamie T Smith, Tuesday, 5 May 2009 12:15 (seventeen years ago)

thx for that Cole Medina, moonship. been lookin for that Buffalo Bill track for a while now, I think it was on a Rub N Tug mix a few years ago

dmr, Tuesday, 5 May 2009 21:29 (seventeen years ago)

btw, my gift to this thread...

QE II, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 22:30 (seventeen years ago)

anyone going to see mark e tomorrow @ santos?

rip dom passantino 3/5/09 never forget (max), Friday, 8 May 2009 19:09 (seventeen years ago)

just realized that this tune fits this thread perfectly...

Tiger + Woods - Come Down

no idea who 'tiger and woods' are, but if you combine this, golf channel records, and john daly we have a good argument for a genuine golf fetish within the genre.

the original is good too-

i am the eye in the sky... (psychgawsple), Saturday, 9 May 2009 18:41 (seventeen years ago)

i really love the mark e podcast but i swear to god i downloaded it ages ago, and recently couldn't find it anywhere on my HD, downloaded it again this week and the same thing has happened. Either I'm going senile or my computer hates disco edits.

languid samuel l. jackson (jim), Saturday, 9 May 2009 18:50 (seventeen years ago)

is that the one that comes tagged as *** Love The Action *** ? Could be the *** causing an issue.

brotherlovesdub, Saturday, 9 May 2009 18:57 (seventeen years ago)

i'm downloading it again from the link on this thread so i'll check if that's the case.

languid samuel l. jackson (jim), Saturday, 9 May 2009 19:24 (seventeen years ago)

best thing about disco edits is that they can turn a piece of shit like "love you inside out" into the greatest song ever.

languid samuel l. jackson (jim), Saturday, 9 May 2009 19:37 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, just reposting to say that the roman flugel mix is my mix of the year so far ... so fucking sick

moonship journey to baja, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 01:15 (seventeen years ago)

yeah i haven't heard many mixes this year but that flugel one is so FRESH sounding

QE II, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 01:33 (seventeen years ago)

did i miss a link?

mikebee (BATTAGS), Wednesday, 13 May 2009 01:37 (seventeen years ago)

it's on local garcia's blog, which i think is still "house is a feeling"

QE II, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 01:38 (seventeen years ago)

lol local garda; here it is

QE II, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 01:42 (seventeen years ago)

apologies if i overstepped link etiquette

QE II, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 01:42 (seventeen years ago)

thanks! i hadn't realized local garda = ronan...

mikebee (BATTAGS), Wednesday, 13 May 2009 01:45 (seventeen years ago)

after listening to this stuff for the past week or two I gotta admit I think most of those Revenge edits are pretty pointless. the original Rene & Angela is about 1000x better than their version. the exception is the Eagles one, that's pretty sweet (reminds me of the Tiedye dub of Tom Petty)

dmr, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 01:52 (seventeen years ago)

best thing about disco edits is that they can turn a piece of shit like "love you inside out" into the greatest song ever.

cosign x 1000

Matos W.K., Wednesday, 13 May 2009 01:59 (seventeen years ago)

isn't the eagle one sorta a mashup of the eagles and buffalo stance?

(jaxon) ( .) ( .) (jaxon), Wednesday, 13 May 2009 02:15 (seventeen years ago)

i think me being an earnest tom petty fan has kept me from checking out the "don't come around here no more" edit (a song i loathe in the first place) but i remember someone on ilx "threatening" to unleash their edit of "you got lucky" a year or so ago and i would sure like to hear that.

best thing about disco edits is that they can turn a piece of shit like "love you inside out" into the greatest song ever
ok, i haven't heard the edit, but if this is such a piece of shit, how can performing a re-edit magically turn it into the greatest song ever? is it the vocals that need to be removed? drums ? everything? this ventures into the weird in-between re-edits --> dub ---> remix discussion which i think happened already but whatever. i am drunk btw

QE II, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 03:50 (seventeen years ago)

seperates the wheat from the chaff. there are some really cheesy moments on the original

(jaxon) ( .) ( .) (jaxon), Wednesday, 13 May 2009 04:33 (seventeen years ago)

vs

(jaxon) ( .) ( .) (jaxon), Wednesday, 13 May 2009 04:43 (seventeen years ago)

yeah ok i'm just trying to level out the hyperbole
