I always think Mark E being from Manchester makes a lot of sense cos his stuff feels so like the Unabombers type of music, in a really huge way. I recommend people here check out Electric Soul 1 and 2 (not heard some of the later CDs.) I don't usually go for downtempo "nu soul" or whatever but those mixes are the more than acceptable face with lots of house/disco stuff too...

my parents play the fuck out of all this stuff. when i was young and experimenting with cool edit pro dad used to get me to loop his favourite bits from his records. just wish i had a delay and and a filter. could have been 13 year old moodymann.

i have been mixing this stuff every other wednesday night at Seattle's Grey Gallery

brotherlovesdub, what time? I play every Wed at Havana, across the street, from 7 to 9 p.m., just playing whatever I want, sit-down radio-DJ style. I should obv. swing by if you're on after 9!

i start at 9 and mix until 10:30, then again after midnight. we're losing the weekly after may and will go to a monthy in june. since i mixed this week, I won't mix again until the week after next. next week is dj struggle and d'jeronimo though, and they play all sorts of incredible deep house ala reggie dokes, prime numbers etc. great dj's.

yeah I guess it's not really connected, I do think specifically Mark E's mixes are quite similar to theirs though, just the source material for his edits and stuff.

I re-listened to the Roman Ronan mix last Friday by coincidence and noted how codeine-disco-y it was!

i think what i love most about this genre is the bpms could be considered practically downtempo, but the way the tracks are arranged gives them that awesome chugging energy that makes you want to dance

This nails exactly what I find compelling about this stuff.

For my money, Beat Down and Deja Vu are the best Mark E tracks. So good.

i really love the mark e podcast but i swear to god i downloaded it ages ago, and recently couldn't find it anywhere on my HD, downloaded it again this week and the same thing has happened. Either I'm going senile or my computer hates disco edits.

after listening to this stuff for the past week or two I gotta admit I think most of those Revenge edits are pretty pointless. the original Rene & Angela is about 1000x better than their version. the exception is the Eagles one, that's pretty sweet (reminds me of the Tiedye dub of Tom Petty)

i think me being an earnest tom petty fan has kept me from checking out the "don't come around here no more" edit (a song i loathe in the first place) but i remember someone on ilx "threatening" to unleash their edit of "you got lucky" a year or so ago and i would sure like to hear that.

ok, i haven't heard the edit, but if this is such a piece of shit, how can performing a re-edit magically turn it into the greatest song ever? is it the vocals that need to be removed? drums ? everything? this ventures into the weird in-between re-edits --> dub ---> remix discussion which i think happened already but whatever. i am drunk btw
