rites of spring record is great but it set a template that i think multiple bands improved upon. for instance i like the embrace record way more

Brad I've got to say thanks for your bigging up of The Devil and God... on one of the other emo threads - I'd always written off Brand New for some reason but I love this record.

Rites of Spring is all time, though in hindsight I wish I had nominated End on End instead of the s/t, because End on End pairs that record with their All Through a Life EP, which contains three or four of their best songs:

"All Through a Life" – 2:27
"Hidden Wheel" – 2:31
"In Silence/Words Away" – 3:00
"Patience" – 1:58

They all kinda melted into the same album in my memory, but that EP is essential. Sort of functions as closure for the project, too, since those songs serve as an unexpected happy ending

it's interesting bc diary is a classic but how it feels is so deeply beloved by the people who love it that i can't guess where either will place

i didnt think how it feels would place anywhere near this high

amazing thing about Devil and God is that like Bleed American it starts with what sounds like an attempt to end the world but then manages to keep up the emotional intensity for 50 minutes

yeah every song on devil and god is a compressed explosion in some way

"not the sun" is my Devil and God fave these days

God I wish they'd made another album. Putting that little bit of an '80s guitar-pop chime on top of those raw-ass vocals is when it all came together

Completely forgot to vote for Rites of Spring! Would've been top 10 in my ballot so I'm glad it's high here too. Listening to Brand New while walking in the night, it's a great feeling

i always think of this album as uneven but when i listen to it i'm just constantly thrilled, even/especially during "the prophet"

Yes! My #1, pretty much a perfect album, haven't ever found anything that sounds quite like it.

Diary has always felt so dull and lifeless when i've heard it but the conversation itt made me listen to The Rising Tide which is great! looking forward to spending more time with the other sdre albums.

Rising Tide is my favourite because it's so weird, but I am happy this is here

One of the only times my mom let me skip school was so I could buy this album first thing in the morning on release day.

I like some tracks from How it Feels but I didn't vote for it. The first two records are much more canonical in my mind. Should probably give it some more attention.
