actually i think the migration was:

baffled by diary -> checks out how it feels to be something on -> "wow this is the most perfect and beautiful music i've ever heard -> returns to diary, understands it more

Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Thursday, 9 March 2017 19:52 (nine years ago)

I think LP2 is my favourite SDRE. Or the one it took to get me into them anyway. "baffled by diary" was first experience too.

seriously teenaged me feels so fucking vindicated right now

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 9 March 2017 20:15 (nine years ago)

I remember liking Juno but still thinking "pffft, they were still the lesser side of that D-Plan split". The campaigning thread forced me to go back and listen again, so thank you!

I want to change my display name (dan m), Thursday, 9 March 2017 20:20 (nine years ago)

what really impressed me the most on revisiting that record is just how fluid the playing is, none of the time changes or compositional tricks feel tacked on. Everything is just so damn seamless.

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 9 March 2017 20:20 (nine years ago)

mare vitalis is the shit

many xposts but SDRE / Pearl Jam boils is a music similarity only - not vox or lyrics.
mega bass noodling in the background, lotsa cymbals, and a big showoffy lead guitar for the solos, hooky riffs, repeated melodies

style of the choruses too occasionally

also their indiscernible lyrics reminds me of PJ's yellow ledbetter. newbies used to join alt.music.pearljam & their first post would be "anyone have the lyrics for yellow ledbetter?" it was a running joke bcz ~there arent any~

Yoni Loves Chocha (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 9 March 2017 20:31 (nine years ago)

brad this fuckin Format album rules and you should feel bad for not nominating it

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 9 March 2017 20:32 (nine years ago)

refuse to believe Low Level Owl was made by humans

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 9 March 2017 20:43 (nine years ago)

its sprawling and ambitious

Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Thursday, 9 March 2017 20:45 (nine years ago)

low level owl is maybe one of the weirdest products of the emo ecosystem--distant spacey flyover country jams

call all destroyer, Thursday, 9 March 2017 20:45 (nine years ago)

I voted for both these Appleseed Cast albums but in reverse order :|

I want to change my display name (dan m), Thursday, 9 March 2017 20:46 (nine years ago)

that was the APPLESEED CAST I voted for. I did not vote for any paramore funnily enough

Odysseus, Thursday, 9 March 2017 20:46 (nine years ago)

it would have been my #1, had i voted. i caught them twice around that time in MO and they put on a great show.

Karl Malone, Thursday, 9 March 2017 20:46 (nine years ago)
