I wrote an unusually personal thing about how that album became a kind of emotional rehab tool for me, helping me rebuild myself during the worst time of my life. I'm honestly not sure how I would have made it through without that record, but the tradeoff now is that hearing most of those songs again kinda makes me nauseous, the associations are so strong

there is some kind of magic at spacebomb though, what a great-sounding record
It does sound great but it's also mostly just what she sounds like, she has great tone and loop pedal deployment
― a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 9 March 2017 16:08 (nine years ago)
thank you for sharing that, evan. good stuff.
― call all destroyer, Thursday, 9 March 2017 16:11 (nine years ago)
yeah she recreates that sense of space in every room i've seen her in xp

I think I'm starting to like this Crying album now. It's like if Trans Am were backing band and making a pop rock album
― Odysseus, Thursday, 9 March 2017 16:12 (nine years ago)
i'm revisiting acceptance's phantoms and i really regret not nominating it! just wanted to say that!
― the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Thursday, 9 March 2017 16:12 (nine years ago)
i thought i had nominated it but neglected to as well

― Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Thursday, 9 March 2017 16:24 (nine years ago)
brad otm re 33. Devil in Jersey City is a perfect straight up pop-punk punch too.
― Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Thursday, 9 March 2017 16:26 (nine years ago)
Bright Eyes are definitely the least emo (to me) artist to place so far but I'm really not a fan so my bias may be clouding my judgement. I revisited Read Music/Speak Spanish last night and thought it was OK, I think I just struggle with Oberst's voice.

booooo (brilliant album but c'mon)
― a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 9 March 2017 16:51 (nine years ago)
I hear cries of not emo but too low from some and too high from others
― Odysseus, Thursday, 9 March 2017 16:52 (nine years ago)
Once it was nominated there was no way i wasn't gonna vote for it
I mean I'm not gonna complain that hard about maybe the best rock band of the last decade making it in
― a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 9 March 2017 16:53 (nine years ago)
if it had to place at least it's here
i guess i should've campaigned harder for the metalcore i nominated lol
― the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Thursday, 9 March 2017 16:53 (nine years ago)
too many people in this poll hate trve emo
― Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Thursday, 9 March 2017 16:54 (nine years ago)
nobody in this poll can even define emo spottie, lol
― Odysseus, Thursday, 9 March 2017 16:54 (nine years ago)

― Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Thursday, 9 March 2017 16:55 (nine years ago)

"You wouldn't understand anyway."
― a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 9 March 2017 16:56 (nine years ago)
Ha, OK, this is even less emo than Bright Eyes (Then again I'm sure there were people on one of the metal polls arguing that Converge aren't metal so what do I know).
― Gavin, Leeds, Thursday, 9 March 2017 16:56 (nine years ago)
exactly xp
― Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Thursday, 9 March 2017 16:57 (nine years ago)

― Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Thursday, 9 March 2017 17:02 (nine years ago)
i would have voted for petitioning the empty sky if it'd been nominated, glad this placed tho, too high, not emo, etc

my #2 -- too low :(
*hot take voice* i think this album is uneven. when it's good it's great though
― the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Thursday, 9 March 2017 17:12 (nine years ago)
agreed. they have way better albums.
― a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 9 March 2017 17:18 (nine years ago)
for instance i think a city by the light divided is better than it in pretty much every respect
― the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Thursday, 9 March 2017 17:18 (nine years ago)
i like city by the light divided a lot but i think this album is fantastic - tons of great tunes, thematically dense

TITR obv not false emo but I can't agree w/ Converge... it's great but maybe more "bands that are not emo that ppl who are rly emo also listen to"
― I want to change my display name (dan m), Thursday, 9 March 2017 17:24 (nine years ago)

do you know who you are for me is just like "what if there was an emo album with the scope and sound of a smashing pumpkins record and also it rocked really hard," sort of inevitable that it would be one of my fav albums of all time
― the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Thursday, 9 March 2017 17:29 (nine years ago)
Thursday was the best discovery of this poll by far. Not this album exactly, but a few of the others have become instant favorites.
I also forgot to listen to TitR, will remedy soon.
