anyway, today results were fantastic but tmmrw is imo the best results of the entire thing (all entirely way TOO LOW) before rolling into the conclusion on friday

btw Three Mile Pilot are indeed amazing

an emo band named Crying... seems kind of meta

one thing about no devolucion: i have no insight into the actual mastering process but given fridmann's history i think it might be so hotly mastered that it ended up producing a ton of negative space and weird auras around all of the instruments

genre policing has been critical to emo since time immemorial

the one emo/pop-punk focused message board i post on is consumed by genre-policing arguments at least once every two weeks

Anyway, checking out some of the albums I hadn't heard before but wow, The Ugly Organ is pretty good, isn't it?

i guess i just didn't think some of these fringe inclusions would make it this high in the countdown.

I ignored the Crying album last year since I'm a miserable contrarian asshole who ignores records people go apeshit for because they underwhelm more often than not; this is quite sweet and endearingly dorky though.

For some reason people are comparing it to Dream Theater lol

yeah metal would be the only thing that comes close. But this is metal if, like, 60% of the acts on that poll pushed back against being called metal

**VG Listening Update***

Sunny Day Real Estate - holy fuck it really is like Pearl Jam is the backing band, musical similarities are nuts. But not in a mimicking way.
Anyway: Love love LOVE. On first listen I def prefer Diary over Rising Tide

Fireside are great. Very enjoyable

I also dug back into older Jimmy Eat World (Static Prevails) yeah they def fit into this emo profile i'm building lol. Love this other dude's vocals, and the harmonies together b/w two singers blend so well

i think the official story is that jim just started writing soooo much and tom just sorta recognized what was happening and stepped back (possibly this is fanfic i've absorbed over the years). tom is still the guitarist though yeah

If I had nominated anything I would have nominated this for sure.

I would also have nominated a few things on Hydrahead that was screamo. Isis - Celestial was considered screamo at the time and thats prob why I got into them. It's also why metal purists hated them of course.
