Yay, Los Campesinos! One of the most wordy albums I've listened to. Some many great lyrics on that one.

btw i always thought of romance is boring as the beginning of the end for los campesinos but everyone's enthusiasm on the campaigning thread made me revisit it, and now i think it's their best album, all of the combustibility of the previous two records but magnified 100x

I'm listening to it again today and it's quite brilliant, sorry for not shutting up about Fireside I'll listen to everything else soon enough

Yeah, I can see that (regarding Romance Is Boring). Though I think their later albums are also pretty good (haven't heard the new one yet, but loved the first single).

Fireside later on, 2003, released a more meat and potatoes rock album called Get Shot, which I also kinda like but never revisited (and is nowhere near as goos as Elite - they really dropped the ball). Anyone familiar with that one? I saw them live during that era and distinctly remember a very poorly attended tuesday evening show in Vera, Groningen. They broke up after that tour i believe.

Nowhere near as GOOD, damn typos.

Going to dig out all my issues of Skyscraper I imported from the states to see if there's any good articles on some of these bands.

xp - OK, cool. Vera was more or less my second living room from the mid-90s to the mid 00s but I didn't see that Fireside show.

fun emo fact: I went on a date in Ottawa with a girl who freaked out that I knew who the Hotelier were, we bonded over shared emo loves, had what seemed to be a v nice time, and then I never saw her again until a few months later when she was out walking with some dude she was definitely dating. the end

my issue with home is that the recording itself is not great but: those songs

to make the most banal point ever, I like the raw sound and think it perfectly suits the rawness of the EMOTIONS

idk when the mix is reduced to bass and drums in "in framing" and the bass sounds like it's being played in another room, it's mostly distracting, not raw

Hi, another dutch northerner and Elite fan calling in :) Haven't listened to it in 10+ years but will put it on tonight. It's sort of an anomaly (and definitely the peak) in their oeuvre.

Dang, seeing three of my favs—Romance is Boring, Brand New Eyes and especially Home—place so low is kinda crushing. Feel like if this poll were done five or 10 years from now Hotelier would be a slam dunk top 10.
