No, Holland :)

― ArchCarrier,

well dont go claiming Lanarkshire bands for Glasgow then!!! ;)

Odysseus, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 13:28 (nine years ago)

Haha, oops!

ArchCarrier, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 13:36 (nine years ago)

But Wikipedia says

Aereogramme were a Scottish alternative rock band from Glasgow, formed in 1998, consisting of Craig B. (vocals, guitar), Iain Cook (guitar, programming), Campbell McNeil (bass) and Martin Scott (drums). Prior to their split in 2007, the band released four studio albums.

ArchCarrier, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 13:40 (nine years ago)

I know, never trust the internet, but you are the internet too, Odysseus.

ArchCarrier, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 13:41 (nine years ago)

no, i didnt mean them, i meant all those Bellshill bands that would get nommed for a glasgow poll and the delgados/mogwai who are from motherwell/hamilton

xp Wait, what? You want to exclude Mogwai from a Glasgow scene poll because they grew up 15 miles from the city?

Big LOL at that picture.

ArchCarrier, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 13:52 (nine years ago)

Realised I've still never heard an entire Dashboard Confessional album - I'll listen to whatever places highest.

Leaves Turn Inside You is a good record I used to absolutely love but it's another I didn't feel quite right voting for.

Gavin, Leeds, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 14:03 (nine years ago)

good morning emo boys & girls!

i'm seeing these guys tnite!

Mordy, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 14:17 (nine years ago)

this poll reinforces the fact that i have no idea what emo is (bedhead, really?)

I'm not sure anyone does. I like music with complex rhythms and dissonant guitars and I like melodic hard rock anthems.

My Body's Made of Crushed Little Evening Stars (Sund4r), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 14:20 (nine years ago)

never liked 'em really (I saw them open for SFA in NY about...7-9 years ago? and found them super irritating) but I admire any band that far outlives the early hype cycle

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 14:21 (nine years ago)

tbph i'm seeing them for the opener, i couldn't name a single one of their songs

Mordy, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 14:22 (nine years ago)

<3 <3 my number 1, pretty much the soundtrack to my angsty late teens, a beautifully emo indie album musically and lyrically.

How many points did #1,2,3 get?

Odysseus, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 14:46 (nine years ago)

I think Dashboard and Promise Ring are the emo bridges too far for me

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 14:46 (nine years ago)

I like the promise ring. Does that make me emo?

Odysseus, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 14:47 (nine years ago)

this was my #3 fwiw

― a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, March 8, 2017 8:46 AM (eight minutes ago)

this is interesting bc for me personally, promise ring is THE emo band and dashboard is embarrassing kabuki

i'll willfully admit that if the tables were turned and dashboard's debut were released in '96 and promise ring's in 2000 i would probably feel the opposite.

gr8080, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 15:01 (nine years ago)

and speaking of post-2000 blindspots... holy shit this fireside album!

gr8080, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 15:02 (nine years ago)

I just really hate the promise ring's vocals for some reason, idk maybe I'll get past it like I have with literally every other personal emo roadblock ever lol

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 15:03 (nine years ago)

I listened to the Los Campesinos album but it was a bit of a slog tbh. I enjoyed the Dashboard album but it was a late cut. I've always had the impression that Promise Ring were cringey-emo but I loved 'Nothing Feels Good'. I'm guessing it will be pretty high.

cajunsunday, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 15:06 (nine years ago)

for sure

Yeah this was a nice discovery for me. Has some nice shoegaze flavours.

album of the year, every year

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 15:09 (nine years ago)

That looks almost identical to a colourshifted cover of an album that's bound to place later

I'm glad I don't give a shit about genre purity so I can take some credit for Sleep and Release and Young Machetes placing

beautiful record, voted for it. thx to brad for the heads up!

some of the songs on RIP are incredible too, yet another band that feels like they had a ton more to say

yeah I can't figure that out either

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 15:16 (nine years ago)

Yay, Los Campesinos! One of the most wordy albums I've listened to. Some many great lyrics on that one.

Marty8501 (Marty Innerlogic), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 15:20 (nine years ago)

So many great lyrics I mean...

Marty8501 (Marty Innerlogic), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 15:21 (nine years ago)

Listening to fireside. Reminds me a bit of Commander Venus/Bright Eyes. But I like it so far
also nobody nommed Commander Venus?

Odysseus, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 15:21 (nine years ago)

btw i always thought of romance is boring as the beginning of the end for los campesinos but everyone's enthusiasm on the campaigning thread made me revisit it, and now i think it's their best album, all of the combustibility of the previous two records but magnified 100x

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 15:24 (nine years ago)

ok count me in on the Fireside camp. Would've voted for this if I'd heard it.

Odysseus, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 15:24 (nine years ago)

I'm listening to it again today and it's quite brilliant, sorry for not shutting up about Fireside I'll listen to everything else soon enough

an uptempo Pop/Hip Hop mentality (imago), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 15:27 (nine years ago)

Yeah, I can see that (regarding Romance Is Boring). Though I think their later albums are also pretty good (haven't heard the new one yet, but loved the first single).

Fireside later on, 2003, released a more meat and potatoes rock album called Get Shot, which I also kinda like but never revisited (and is nowhere near as goos as Elite - they really dropped the ball). Anyone familiar with that one? I saw them live during that era and distinctly remember a very poorly attended tuesday evening show in Vera, Groningen. They broke up after that tour i believe.

Marty8501 (Marty Innerlogic), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 15:27 (nine years ago)

Nowhere near as GOOD, damn typos.
