Leaves Turn Inside You is a good record I used to absolutely love but it's another I didn't feel quite right voting for.

this poll reinforces the fact that i have no idea what emo is (bedhead, really?)

I'm not sure anyone does. I like music with complex rhythms and dissonant guitars and I like melodic hard rock anthems.

never liked 'em really (I saw them open for SFA in NY about...7-9 years ago? and found them super irritating) but I admire any band that far outlives the early hype cycle

tbph i'm seeing them for the opener, i couldn't name a single one of their songs

<3 <3 my number 1, pretty much the soundtrack to my angsty late teens, a beautifully emo indie album musically and lyrically.

this is interesting bc for me personally, promise ring is THE emo band and dashboard is embarrassing kabuki

i'll willfully admit that if the tables were turned and dashboard's debut were released in '96 and promise ring's in 2000 i would probably feel the opposite.

and speaking of post-2000 blindspots... holy shit this fireside album!

I just really hate the promise ring's vocals for some reason, idk maybe I'll get past it like I have with literally every other personal emo roadblock ever lol

I listened to the Los Campesinos album but it was a bit of a slog tbh. I enjoyed the Dashboard album but it was a late cut. I've always had the impression that Promise Ring were cringey-emo but I loved 'Nothing Feels Good'. I'm guessing it will be pretty high.

Yay, Los Campesinos! One of the most wordy albums I've listened to. Some many great lyrics on that one.

btw i always thought of romance is boring as the beginning of the end for los campesinos but everyone's enthusiasm on the campaigning thread made me revisit it, and now i think it's their best album, all of the combustibility of the previous two records but magnified 100x

I'm listening to it again today and it's quite brilliant, sorry for not shutting up about Fireside I'll listen to everything else soon enough

Yeah, I can see that (regarding Romance Is Boring). Though I think their later albums are also pretty good (haven't heard the new one yet, but loved the first single).

Fireside later on, 2003, released a more meat and potatoes rock album called Get Shot, which I also kinda like but never revisited (and is nowhere near as goos as Elite - they really dropped the ball). Anyone familiar with that one? I saw them live during that era and distinctly remember a very poorly attended tuesday evening show in Vera, Groningen. They broke up after that tour i believe.
