Minor details!

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 22 February 2017 18:45 (nine years ago)

as somebody who needs choral music to be aggressively crossovered into their life i am hyped to hear, d

schlump, Wednesday, 22 February 2017 18:50 (nine years ago)

"no guitars" I hear

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 22 February 2017 19:18 (nine years ago)

some sad trombone Twilight Zone shit (cryptosicko), Wednesday, 22 February 2017 19:48 (nine years ago)

it's the DJP-only album we've been waiting for

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 22 February 2017 19:53 (nine years ago)

DJP has taken over the MG identity and it is nothing but plainsong chants.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 22 February 2017 19:56 (nine years ago)

Or alternately, I arranged backing vocals on one of the songs

ornate orchestral arrangements (DJP), Wednesday, 22 February 2017 19:57 (nine years ago)

But...my creative lies for your benefit.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 22 February 2017 20:00 (nine years ago)

Don't get me wrong, I'm gonna email some friends for a Latin translation of "No Children" this weekend

Anyone reading his book?

calstars, Wednesday, 22 February 2017 21:26 (nine years ago)

Just got a copy after going to the reading in Seattle. I'm honestly amazed by how good he is at audience q&a's, being able to answer cliched or awkwardly phrased questions in an interesting way that doesn't make the person asking feel stupid is a real gift.

JoeStork, Wednesday, 22 February 2017 21:31 (nine years ago)

omg @ Goths

nickn, Saturday, 25 February 2017 04:34 (nine years ago)

Universal Harvester rolling me right along in a musical way, not breezy tho (how did that word become such a thing)

dow, Saturday, 25 February 2017 05:10 (nine years ago)

The book is indeed extremely good.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 26 February 2017 00:53 (nine years ago)

I tried to find it on the kobo store and it offered me

Farming Machinery - Combine Harvesters - With Information on the Operation and Mechanics of the Combine Harvester

and

How to Start a Potato Harvester and Sorter Business (Beginners Guide)

brekekekexit collapse collapse (ledge), Sunday, 26 February 2017 16:08 (nine years ago)

i have been VERY disappointed to discover Universal Harvester unstocked at the many airports i have passed through this weekend

jason waterfalls (gbx), Sunday, 26 February 2017 20:13 (nine years ago)

That's because you weren't looking under his pseudonym, 'Brad Thor.'

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 26 February 2017 20:16 (nine years ago)

Oh so it is available as an ebook in the kobo store, but not in the UK. And there I thought we had a global economy.

brekekekexit collapse collapse (ledge), Monday, 27 February 2017 18:10 (nine years ago)

as an aside i have to imagine placement in airport bookstores does wonders for sales -- feel like airports are one of the last few places ppl make impulse book purchases

jason waterfalls (gbx), Monday, 27 February 2017 18:32 (nine years ago)

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Tuesday, 25 April 2017 15:45 (nine years ago)

I would love to meet the basses they used for this because they are badass

Rachel Luther Queen (DJP), Tuesday, 25 April 2017 20:10 (nine years ago)

How's his new book?

djh, Tuesday, 25 April 2017 20:20 (nine years ago)

some sad trombone Twilight Zone shit (cryptosicko), Monday, 15 May 2017 14:07 (nine years ago)

i'm only five songs into this but this is easily my favorite mountain goats record in years. the no guitars approach works remarkably well, the arrangements are so detailed and lovely

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Monday, 15 May 2017 14:48 (nine years ago)

shouts out to the new order coda of "shelved"

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Monday, 15 May 2017 15:23 (nine years ago)

It sounds so much like Hook that I wonder

the Rain Man of nationalism. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 15 May 2017 15:23 (nine years ago)

also: his late '70s West Coast album. I love the electric piano all over the place.

the Rain Man of nationalism. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 15 May 2017 15:23 (nine years ago)

It's an incredibly warm-sounding album to my ears.

PJD PDJ DPJ (DJP), Monday, 15 May 2017 15:24 (nine years ago)

you can hear every stick on cymbal

the Rain Man of nationalism. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 15 May 2017 15:27 (nine years ago)

I like it but it's too jazz, I thought the same thing about the last one but it won me around, but I'm pretty sure this one is too jazz.

^fully expect to cut and paste this for every Mountain Goats album from now on.

Andrew Farrell, Monday, 15 May 2017 15:37 (nine years ago)

what is "too jazz"

the Rain Man of nationalism. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 15 May 2017 15:38 (nine years ago)

i feel like this one is pretty jazz i guess but the melodies are more accessible than the more free-falling digressions on beat the champ imo

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Monday, 15 May 2017 15:39 (nine years ago)

There are bits of this I just can't seem to get behind right now (the chorus of "High Unicorn Tolerance" for instance) but I'm hoping those objections fall away

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Monday, 15 May 2017 21:38 (nine years ago)

I like the woodwind arrangement and hook more than the song.

the Rain Man of nationalism. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 15 May 2017 21:46 (nine years ago)

"Abandoned Flesh" and "Wear Black" are my favs

sexualing healing (crüt), Monday, 15 May 2017 21:49 (nine years ago)
