Everything Moves Towards The Sun (Ross), Friday, 24 February 2017 01:42 (nine years ago)

"In a part of Dublin known as the Liberties, which is also where the Vikings settled 1000 years ago, there is a small community of rebel horse owners. And a few years ago, a travelling street musician who goes by the name, "The Musical Slave", accidentally crashed her van into the wall of one of their urban horse yards – and out came a horse and a few boys. One of them brought her for a spin with a horse and two-wheeler, and from that day on she was hooked. She ended up buying her own horse and moving him into the yard...

The Musical Slave is a street musician and storyteller from Bergen, on the west coast of Norway. She plays tropical punk, and sings about love, the forces of nature, and the world economy."

"Slide" by Calvin Harris feat. Frank Ocean & Migos is a joyful tune

niels, Saturday, 25 February 2017 17:36 (nine years ago)

I'm really into the new Entrance album 'Book of Changes' which you can hear on bandcamp. Classic-sounding folk/pop kind of stuff. A couple of highlights: Molly, I'd Be a Fool

Dinsdale, Wednesday, 1 March 2017 12:35 (nine years ago)

I cannot stop listening to the new Tinariwen. Desert Blues is all I need right now.

Snail Mail - Habits album

Carlotta's Portrait (Ross), Thursday, 2 March 2017 01:32 (nine years ago)

Snail Mail's voice kinda reminds me of Pumpkin Wentzel from Guv'ner.

Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 2 March 2017 03:51 (nine years ago)

Landlady album reminds me quite a bit of Stump (posts v much in character sorry)

I love "Friend Zone" and "Them Changes" from the new Thudercat album although a lot of the rest is kinda clickbait Shuggie Otis, but I need a few more listens. I love the line "I'd rather play Mortal Combat anyway" on "Friend Zone"

pointless rock guitar (Michael B), Saturday, 4 March 2017 15:25 (nine years ago)

it's Mortal Kombat dude c'mon

Really digging on Austra - Future Politics and in particular the track Utopia. I'm bad at describing things like this, kinda reminds me of Kate Bush, or I suppose Dido? I dunno.

That Anna Wise track mentioned in this thread is dope

Carlotta's Portrait (Ross), Thursday, 9 March 2017 05:39 (nine years ago)

I'm loving this Greek Theatre album. Gorgeous psych-folk-country-rock from Sweden.

Well bissogled trotters (Michael B), Sunday, 12 March 2017 01:53 (nine years ago)

I wish I liked the Thundercat album more, but so much of it is just goofy shit.

Laura Marling - Semper Femina

_Rudipherous_, Sunday, 12 March 2017 02:50 (nine years ago)

^
I'm liking this so far. It's nice that she keeps taking her music in new directionsite. More polished and jazzy than Short Movie.

I really like it. The video for "Soothing" is a bit er, um.

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Sunday, 12 March 2017 05:54 (nine years ago)

I'm really loving Tennis - Yours Conditionally. Perfect for Sunday.

dance cum rituals (Moka), Sunday, 12 March 2017 23:04 (nine years ago)

Still warming up to "Semper Femina" - "Don't Pass Me By" is a great track.

Carlotta's Portrait (Ross), Sunday, 12 March 2017 23:14 (nine years ago)

A couple days ago I thought I wasn't even going to be able to get through the album (LM is pretty outside my usual) but then I came back to it the next day with Wild Once, which really clicked; then came back around and listened to the whole thing.

_Rudipherous_, Monday, 13 March 2017 02:47 (nine years ago)

Yeah it's outside my usual as well Rudipherous, tbh I like songs like "Soothing" and "Gurdijeff's Daughter" more than the other ones I've heard, which probably makes it clear I'm not familiar with her.

Carlotta's Portrait (Ross), Monday, 13 March 2017 02:50 (nine years ago)

"Gurdjieff's Daughter" is my favorite song of hers. Maybe it is Laura Marling for people who aren't into Laura Marling. I've always wanted to like her though. She always seemed really solid, just making types of music I don't listen to much.

_Rudipherous_, Monday, 13 March 2017 03:05 (nine years ago)

"Gurdijeff's daughter" is like a really solid Pretenders homage IMO

Carlotta's Portrait (Ross), Monday, 13 March 2017 03:08 (nine years ago)

"Gurdjieff" definitely one of her catchier tunes. It's not my favorite on "Short Movie" any more though. That honor would go to the lovely "Easy". Of the three albums I have by her, they all have there fair share of keepers.

o. nate, Monday, 13 March 2017 03:30 (nine years ago)

Mordy mentioned them upthread but the Sacred Paws album is great in an 'Electrelane play Vampire Weekend' kind of way. I really like the final track 'Getting Old'

Lennon, Elvis, Hendrix etc (dog latin), Sunday, 26 March 2017 22:43 (nine years ago)

Out of curiosity, how much overlap is there between the Linda Catlin Smith and Charli XCX crowds?

pomenitul, Sunday, 26 March 2017 23:08 (nine years ago)

EP:

Seiho - Un/Real

especially "Inmost."

Is there a Spotify playlist for this thread this year or did forks get sued?

_Rudipherous_, Thursday, 30 March 2017 15:40 (nine years ago)

Actually it's just UNREAL, no slash. Slash on the cover confused me.

_Rudipherous_, Thursday, 30 March 2017 15:44 (nine years ago)

confused himself I bet

Choco Blavatsky (seandalai), Thursday, 30 March 2017 20:32 (nine years ago)

The recent Linda Catlin Smith album on Another Timbre is frikkin' gorgeous.
