AdamVania (Adam Bruneau), Friday, 17 February 2017 03:11 (nine years ago)

one month passes...

Fred Durst said of his own band's sound that "I know y'all be loving this shit right here" and the people did. They truly did love that shit. Let's all put on our caps, tilt them backwards, and reminisce on the glory days.

Phil is a nu-metal archivist.

Frobisher, Wednesday, 29 March 2017 23:10 (nine years ago)

It's a dirty job and nobody had to do it.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 29 March 2017 23:32 (nine years ago)

It's funny, every time I think people could not be any less interested in nu-metal in 2017, I come across someone who is really into Korn or Papa Roach or something and is continuing to follow 'em. It surprises me because even at the time I thought it'd be a passing fad that would be over within a few years and it wasn't surprised at all when that turned out to be the case, but also because I never expected the appeal of these bands to last beyond people's teenage years.

The Roger Waters Experience (Turrican), Thursday, 30 March 2017 01:44 (nine years ago)

Papa Roach AFAIC passed into cool territory the other day with their Twitter responses to the fake Paul Ryan story after the failed health care vote. Couldn't give a care for their music but they're obviously in the right place headspace-wise.

Korn's impact on metal I can acknowledge without thinking anything more about them.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 30 March 2017 01:47 (nine years ago)

Deftones were always the nu metal band it was ok to like

I'd put System of a Down in that category, too.

tbf ~95% of people tend to just listen to stuff they loved during their teenage years

Noisey, an online descendant of Creem with the Oral Roberts dropout Eric Sundermann as its Dave Marsh, the brash punk Dan Ozzi its Lester Bangs, and the extreme-metal feminist Kim Kelly its Jaan Uhelszki.

Smith said he's hopes to get a Bill tattoo to complete the trilogy ("might as well get 'em all, right?" he said) but for now he only has portraits of Hillary, Chelsea, and, uh, Howard Stern. "I'm a fan and longtime supporter of him" he told me. "Howard is a longtime Hillary supporter, too, by the way."

seems like a cool guy

TIL Vice has a series called Jungletown that is a reality tv spin on neocolonialism. a for-profit South American village whose founder is promoted in this Vice video series as a "visionary". wiki:

Despite Kalu Yala's stated altruistic, sustainability and educational goals, the venture is profit seeking and solicited a $12 million Series A venture capital round with the intent to a achieve a $100 million valuation in five years.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Tuesday, 19 September 2017 16:18 (eight years ago)

What's this about a problem, I hear you ask? The current health insurance industry bureaucracy hires lots of low-income women to work at crappy jobs that might disappear under single-payer.

So, how about using some of the massive savings created by single payer to set up high quality subsidized child care or some other badly needed social services and hire those low-income women to do something more socially useful than pushing paper or answering phones?

mookieproof, Friday, 6 October 2017 18:51 (eight years ago)

I keep imagining the Noisey staff reacting like Phil Hartman, Chris Farley and Melanie Hudsel in the SNL skit about the Soylent Green sequels, only instead they're screaming "VICE IS STILL RACIST AND SEXIST! WE THOUGHT THEY WEREN'T BUT THEY ARE! NOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

Marcus Hiles Remains Steadfast About Planting Trees.jpg (DJP), Friday, 6 October 2017 19:37 (eight years ago)

or like unfrozen caveman lawyer.. "look, i'm just an innocent woke ass dude that just started working here.. when i heard a racist started this place i was like 'whattt?' i didnt know because i just started working here...'"
