i'll give it over the weekend for bee OK to give the go ahead. we can always start on monday. what sounds good - one week nomination, one week votes, one week results?

one week nomination feels right but i think a two week voting period feels more appropriate

If It Makes You Less Sad I Will POLL Emo Albums
― Mordy, Monday, 13 February 2017 20:13 (seven years ago) link
So I've got the finefinemusic spreadsheet. What have ppl found is the easiest/best way to solicit ballots to input into the spreadsheet? It seems like if I give ppl something like 30 votes (which is built into the spreadsheet), if ppl give me less I'll have to manually number the ballots? (If they give 30 exactly I can just copy/paste the 1 through 30 over and over?) Thoughts?
― Mordy, Thursday, 16 February 2017 05:02 (seven years ago) link
Check my answer in the albums poll :)
― ArchCarrier, Thursday, 16 February 2017 07:06 (seven years ago) link
When I've done these polls I have a vlookup looking from the album position to a list of the points allocated to the each position. Do as little manual entry as possible, get your formulas to do all the work.
I'm happy to do the spreadsheeting for you if you want, I helped Bee OK with the Van Halen poll a few months ago.

May I please be added to the huge queue for a poll?
I'd like to run a Math-rock/Hardcore/Post-Hardcore poll.
I asked in 2015 to be added to the list for a grunge poll and it didnt get added. So please whoever is in charge now add me :)

after discussing with sund4r I think i may expand it to any post bad brains punk inc the green days and the fobs etc. but not 77 punk or post-punk. but theres gonna be years before anything needs decided :)
― Odysseus, Friday, 10 March 2017 17:22 (seven years ago) link
Ha, I was just listening to your ideas. It wasn't my idea to include or not include pop-punk! Totally your call!

Or you could just not G.A.F. and start your poll whenever you feel like it. Very punk attitude.

i think post-rock is included in the shoegaze/dreampop poll. math rock wouldnt fit in with that. plus its gonna be years after that poll anyway

i've been looking forward to a reason to force people to listen to zazen boys songs and the round hole of a hardcore/math/post-h poll seems like the perfect place for me to cram that square peg

i don't think so, i am almost never on ilm tbh but the emo poll has me hanging around. zazen boys fucking rule. i probably havev weekend and himmitsu girls top secret stuck in my head more than any other songs on a day-to-day basis (esp the latter, i have to try not to accidentally rip it off when i'm making up songs)

I could do Jimi Hendrix. What was the usual time frame before every poll started lasting four months? Two weeks voting, one week rollout?
― ArchCarrier, Thursday, February 9, 2017 1:54 AM (one month ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink
I think some dude still wants to do the Hendrix poll himself, or at least that was the case the last time the idea of someone else taking it over was floated?

eh go for it. i'm too busy for the foreseeable future to even lurk on ilx most days, let alone run a poll.
― steen vogue (some dude), Saturday, 11 March 2017 15:15 (seven years ago) link
I'm open and can definitely run a poll. I volunteered to run a cover versions poll back in 2013. Even though 4 years is not a long wait in ILM poll time, it would be a dynamite poll. Anything else on the list that people care to poll?
― kornrulez6969, Saturday, 11 March 2017 16:11 (seven years ago) link
Jimi has to wait a bit. Now that the emo poll is finished I can finally start the sequel to my 70s soul albums poll: the tracks poll. Probably somewhere next week.
― ArchCarrier, Saturday, 11 March 2017 16:34 (seven years ago) link
xp The cover versions poll sounds cool too. We can plan both polls so that the rollouts don't overlap.
― ArchCarrier, Saturday, 11 March 2017 16:38 (seven years ago) link
What is the list now?
― Odysseus, Saturday, 11 March 2017 17:00 (seven years ago) link
fwiw I normally like to err on the side of giving ppl as much time as possible HOWEVER what i noticed from the emo poll is that doing it fairly quick (1 week noms, 2 weeks voting/campaigning, 1 week rollout) is that it kept everyone's interest and attention seemingly nonstop for the month. i feel like extending any part of it might've risked peeling ppl off or ppl losing interest and then needing to regain it again. which is to say i've changed my mind and think if possible it should be as taut a timeline as possible (w/out being unreasonably quick).
― Mordy, Saturday, 11 March 2017 17:59 (seven years ago) link
For a single artist, you don't even need a nominations period. Just "here is a link to his songography, now vote dummies!"
