OMG!!!!!! hahahahaha should really be 'andrew cole' not 'andy' tho. this fucking thing will be stuck in my head for days now..but ..WHAT KIND OF DAYS?? HAPPY DAYS!! SCHOOL DAYS!! etc

pandemic, Thursday, 9 February 2017 14:46 (nine years ago)

ah i thought it could one of his but it didn't match with anything recent on his soundcloud

i listened to most of those sets over a day so it all just melted into a puddle of bass, have to get back on that bassboy one

there's this tune on the trc one that i've only ever heard him play, it seems like it's katy b prod or remixed by burgaboy but can't find evidence of such thing existing, at 14m:

https://soundcloud.com/rinsefm/trc280117

any idea?

dbs, Thursday, 9 February 2017 15:10 (nine years ago)

haha no i was gonna ask you the same! the only reason i came to mention burga earlier was cos i was looking for it :)

r|t|c, Thursday, 9 February 2017 16:03 (nine years ago)

not entirely certain it is katy b (despite indeed sounding just alike) but i cant be bovd to refresh my memory of the finer nuances between teresa and zoe and all the other b-line cherubs of yore

this one's also sticking out from the rinse sets https://soundcloud.com/formularecordsuk/jg-cave-explorer

bassboy's is still the best but trc's is also quality and nastee boi's is chock full of loopy pop n rnb refixes (pantha's is all old dubs but it's always worth a reminder just how schizo his deep tech persona is). not bothering with the nu skool screwface merchants

if anyone fancies a change of pace .... er well kinda... pvc is returning with incredible scenes

the only problem he has, as proven by this mindcrumpling kiss fresh mix late last year, is that he has become a cyborg van helden 5.0 genre unto himself and the best of the rest just sounds like piss next to it

The project I am working on gives me an entire building to myself. I am streaming DJ Q, etc. as loudly as I want. (Not actually that mega-loud because I do need to be able to work.)

this tdq album is amazing but of course it is. i'll think of something more interesting to say hopefully. once the sub-bass on "only one" lets me back up off the floor.

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 21 March 2017 20:58 (nine years ago)

"touch" puts me in mind of 2000-ish mj cole. that massive 2-step beat, the edge of menace. the unexpected major key bassline! the precision of the thing, every element precisely picked out in the mix, nothing stepping on each other's toes. the LUSHNESS. wayyy too short tho :(

Q's Pure Bassline mix is awesome, no major surprises in there and he doesn't do the really rapid fire switches between records but good to have at least one version of his recent sets out there on streaming services/in shops.

Matt DC, Monday, 3 April 2017 12:59 (nine years ago)

listening to UKG at lunchtime and Hannah started singing "Baked Beans" along to the vocal sample in said track, even tho she'd never heard it before

Bassline producers... in 2018 can we stop trying to be comedians online and actually release more music for the supporters... on that note, My Bae by myself and @FlavaD is available to stream / download from today https://t.co/ypyF8iRSup

the new Barely Royal compilation "100% Bass" is giving me the same kind of feeling a DJ Q Kiss show gave me - lots of opulent bangers of growling subs and wobbling midrange, rhythmically thrilling but direct and brutalist, new vocal anthems mixed with refixes of 90s pop-house, skirting awfulness with tastelessness but never less than joyous glee

(except the drum & bass tracks on it, they're mostly rubbish)

boxedjoy, Tuesday, 21 August 2018 08:57 (seven years ago)

caught him live at a festival recently. it was a lot more bassline and a lot less garage-house than i'd expected

This Fabriclive mix is fucking bonkers in the best way - personal highlight is the end of his remix of the Stingray theme (!) and a sample intones "anything can happen in the next half hour" and it feels like a promise as much as a punchline. Why can't all music be so charismatic and fun and joyous?

boxedjoy, Friday, 14 December 2018 12:42 (seven years ago)

The Stingray drop is one of my favourite musical moments of the year but the mix in general is, I dunno, enjoyable but slightly frustrating and unsatisfying? Like it could stand to be more pop maybe?

It's like when Q was at his peak his sets had this magical alchemy, like he'd perfected the ratios of bassline brutalism, garage slink and pop shamelessness and his recent sets have more of the former and less of the latter. Over the last few years Q (and TQD in particular) have become fixtures on the UK festival bosh circuit and as a result maybe his sets have lost a bit of the balance that used to make them special. He's amped up the ruffness and cut back on the sugar.
