Ditto, music should have a bit of magic in it. The problem here is the low bar of this style is much less irritating than the lower end of other styles, so records which aren't that good get more of a pass. I like the inconsequential but it should be the magic of the leaf in the breeze, some of these are the leaf in the drawer

hah, now that you mention it, i did recommend gaussian curve to a friend who was having a hard time after stressing too much about US politics. whether it helped or not remains to be seen

Haven't heard the Gil'r portion of that show but I just finished the Gigi/Jonny part and it was nice. I enjoyed the banter and it didn't irritate me as much as it has.

Really loving the new stuff from both Jonny and Gigi though. Can't wait for the new Gaussian Curve LP. Would like to see them live but doubt that will ever come to America (outside of NYC/LA).

i don't mind when balearic dudes post stuff that's a little outside the scope of the genre since most of y'all have good taste. the new horsebeach does sound bland at a glance, though

An instrumental from their last album got included on some balaeric compilations and mixes. I like them a bunch, but i'm partial to WIlliam It Was Really Nothing and Girl Afraid and Horsebeach seem to continue to subtly rewrite those two songs, so i'm happy.

Is there a medical term for only wanting to listen to Sketches From An Island? Maybe "nervous breakdown." I dunno, I can just listen to both volumes of this on a loop lately and I'm good

Track 1 off the first Sketches is so horrible. I have to start on track 2.

The MIDI flute + weird phased clavinet jam? That's not one of my favorites either, but I like it fine in context. It is a strange one to kick things off, though.

In general I think I prefer the second collection, which is overall spacier and a little darker (or at least as "dark" as balearic chilldude flip-flop music gets)

maybe "pensive and reflective" is more accurate than "dark." Like that moment when you're stoned and you stop listening to the waves and seagulls and start thinking about friends you've lost touch with and wondering if your dog could be said to be having a "happy life"
