Had no idea Soundway was on Bandcamp! I just tweeted a list of 10 recommended titles. (I'm @burn_amb on Twitter.)

The ACLU thing was a nice success, they raised over a $mil.

I forgot to mention this, which also came out yesterday -- Finnish band who have evolved from shoegaze/space rock/Kosmische to full-on psych prog. Additionally, they also made their 2014 album Ujubasajuba Name your Price available, and their first album is free.

They're great, btw, I've pre-ordered (physical copies of) Ruination and Ujubasajuba already.

"White Rose" is like Skittles lightly laced with psychedelics. Love this.

The ACLU thing was a nice success, they raised over a $mil.

People bought for over one million worth of music that day but ACLU is "only" getting 12% of that, the rest still goes to the artists, except for the ones who also decided to give their share that day (which amounts to about 400 labels/artists, so it's not negligible).

Dinsdale, Sunday, 5 February 2017 09:51 (nine years ago)

ooh new Ondatrópica album coming on Soundway. The three tracks already available are tremendous.

New Necks - Unfold. In sort of Popol Miles mode.

The FLAC is 24bit, which is nice.

Joseph Clayton Mills has been doing fantastic stuff with Haptic, and the recent collaboration with Marvin Tate (The Process) is reallly good.

Bought three things today:

New Metal by Multiple Man, a pair of Australian twins making EBM/industrial that they describe as "BURNING CHROME, CROSS CONTINENTAL HI-NRG, FIRM HANDSHAKE ELECTRONIC BODY MUSIC" (capitalization in original; that "FIRM HANDSHAKE" cracks me up). Highly recommended if you're in a Front 242/early Nitzer Ebb mood like I seem to be a lot lately.
https://dkarecords.bandcamp.com/album/new-metal

Discipline Is Reward Enough (2017 Version) by Severe Illusion, a Swedish EBM/industrial duo whose albums are name-your-price. (I paid 40 SEK, about $5, each for this one and their other full-length, No More Alive Than You Deserve.) Noisy, aggressive stuff like a shoutier, more fuzzed-out Nitzer Ebb or a slightly more caveman-ish Skinny Puppy.

I just did my first "sure, fuck it, why not" full-discography-on-bandcamp purchase - I was gonna buy an album for, like, 7 euros, and the label was like "you want our whole catalog? half off, 20 euros" and I figured "I bet I was gonna buy at least three more of your records anyway"

welcome to collection, weird awesome russian ambient label that put out this awesome comp

Ohlm from Louisville is a pretty cool prog/post metal instrumental band.

https://ohlm.bandcamp.com/

Music Hates You was from the metal scene in Athens, GA. They got a cool mix of punk, metal and hardcore. Kinda reminds me of a southern rock version of "To Ride, Shoot Straight and Speak the Truth".

This sounds way too good to be true, from an artist pov:

https://daily.bandcamp.com/2019/04/17/create-vinyl-with-bandcamp/

Wonder what the costs/thresholds will be, and if they can possibly keep up with demand?

(also possibly bad in the 'wasting physical resources' sense, but probably a drop in the bucket?)

saw mention of this on the pitchfork "great records you might have missed in q1 2019" list, but didn't check it out 'til now. holy mother of god is it good, incredible atmosphere. talk talk drums, durutii guitars--it's obv not on that level but it's as absorbing a headphones listen as i've heard in a long while

It’s from last year, but the Young Scum s/t is a very pleasant slice of neo-mope pop indie, a la Smiths.

Bandcamp Record Store in Oakland

Greetings!

We recently opened a record shop and performance space, and hope you’ll come visit. We’re at 1901 Broadway in Oakland, California (right by the 19th Street BART station), and open Monday-Friday from 12pm-7pm.

The space features a selection of records that showcase the diversity and design of the more than five million albums available on Bandcamp, and we host free, all-ages shows and events (we’re launching a video series around those performances a little later this year).

If you’re heading our way and would like to get on our events mailing list, sign up here.

Hope to see you soon!

I popped in there last month, it’s kinda neat. Only a couple/few dozen titles for sale. I left right away because I didn’t want to talk to the salespeople.
