i'm inconsolable tbh

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Tuesday, 21 February 2017 19:21 (nine years ago)

i can't get used to the fact that this band can always wreck me in ways i thought inimaginable. and i love that this is the path they choose to follow after 'i like it when you sleep...', although it can mean nothing.

lmao turrican

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Tuesday, 21 February 2017 19:33 (nine years ago)

Yeah, did not like that at all. Covering a Sade song as a sad robot is a bad move.

Don Van Gorp, midwest regional VP, marketing (誤訳侮辱), Tuesday, 21 February 2017 19:48 (nine years ago)

yeah I really liked the album and thought it was a huge step forward, but this isn't a great version at all

lol

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Friday, 24 February 2017 17:50 (nine years ago)

I didn't think the Futureheads desecrating Kate Bush would be outdone in my lifetime

lex pretend, Friday, 24 February 2017 17:52 (nine years ago)

haha i am not that outraged but it does betray a...... lack of self-awareness, or at least Sade-awareness, on par with i dunno chvrches doing a stereolab cover? you just don't mess, it does you no favours

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Friday, 24 February 2017 18:00 (nine years ago)

or like...when chvrches did a bauhaus cover

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Friday, 24 February 2017 18:02 (nine years ago)

Stereogum ran a whole article this week on cover versions of this song. They were uniformly awful.

Don Van Gorp, midwest regional VP, marketing (誤訳侮辱), Friday, 24 February 2017 18:03 (nine years ago)

I would gladly listen to Chvrches cover Stereolab.

MarkoP, Friday, 24 February 2017 18:04 (nine years ago)

chvrches doing "bela lugosi's dead" feels way more out-of-depth than this though, not that i'm justifying this cover to people who will believe me on that point

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Friday, 24 February 2017 18:04 (nine years ago)

that chvrches cover is so bizarre, i had totally forgotten about it

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Friday, 24 February 2017 18:05 (nine years ago)

besides which the "by your side" cover doesn't veer from the original arrangement or reconstruct it as a rock song a la futureheads, just sort of faithfully recreates it with saxophones and synths and i assume someone humming through a distortion pedal, w matty singing through a vocoder. the anger it inspires is just another exponent of the significant contempt ppl already feel for this band, sade injury added to general insult

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Friday, 24 February 2017 18:14 (nine years ago)

though i guess now that they've trolled lex so directly they can break up

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Friday, 24 February 2017 18:15 (nine years ago)
